PoE and FO both had shit graphics, though PoE was easier to look at then FO. Regardless, PoE was bad because 3D is shit for isometric RPGs.
Those are some really beautiful pictures in the spoiler. What game is that from?

Make the Codex Great Again!
Colors are important. And create a color of the game or scene in the game isn't a simple thing for me :-/

Also, if you think that desert wasteland compels lack of color, I would disagree. Check out, for instance, Dune and Dark Sun.

Dune:

Dark Sun:

Kyrandia 1 and 2. IMO Kyrandia 2 might be the most beautiful adventure game of all time. Sadly, the Kyrandia gameplay never lived up to its visuals.

Colour theory is incredibly important and I think especially artists that worked on old adventure games really had to have a strong grasp of it to translate fantastic images into incredibly limited palettes (through the lost art of dithering).

The brilliance of some of these artists cannot be overstated. Look at what they did with 16 colours (special mention to Mark Ferrari, I think LOOM is the best looking game in 16 colours ever:

As with everything, though, necessity drives innovation and creativity. Today's artists have no such limitations and therefore do not have to think so carefully about what works and what doesn't, frequently leading to unremarkable scenes and often clashing motifs.

As others have mentioned previously, I think the old adventure games of the 90's had some of the best uses of color in gaming. Feel free to post more screenshots of other games with excellent color theory; it's always beautiful to look at.

This is anything but real life. Accurate representation of color is incredibly rare in a photograph, because accurate colors make images look very bland. Pretty much any camera will "spice up" colors a little bit (or a big bit, depending on manufacturer and price), and so will your screen (unless you're using a neutral profile and a calibrated monitor). And that's only if you limit yourself to shooting and then displaying your photograph as is right out of the camera, which second and third shots are clearly not. They are highly processed HDR images, with very little "real life" left in them.

The early Fallouts look fantastic to me. Where I am probably weird is New Vegas. I know people often complain about the way it looks, but it's very pleasing to my eye, and I play it without any graphics enhancements/modifications.

That said, I wouldn't mind good artists experimenting with different ideas. But vibrant colors often look kitschy to me (like coca cola advertisements, let's say), so I guess the proof is in the pudding.

Fallout NV is a uniquely ugly game, but its problems go beyond a reduced range of colors. The lightning is awful, and even places that could look great look ugly:

Note that the sidewalk, the first-floor walls, the Strip walls, the planter, the building proper, and the streetlights use the same or a very similar gray. Even the palm trees look gray.

No amount of retexturing/lighting/color changes would make FNV look good. The world sculpting itself looks terrible, with the Honest Hearts dlc slightly improving.

Obsidian's games have never been lookers (have yet to play pillars 2) and what goes for FNV also goes for kotor2, they both looked worse than the games they succeeded while the audience expects the opposite.

Dungeon Siege 3, Mask of the Betrayer, and Alpha Protocol were all pretty good color-wise, IMO, especially compared to a lot of other games in the 360/PS3 era where bland colors were a widespread problem.

why did you make those pics so small? When checking source its properly large

To prove his point? If he use a properly large image it can be zoom in and people will notice the variety of color in each small piece of the picture. As the properly large image of the casino (1st) show.

No it's not. It's like someone threw up brown on the screen. Graphics aged horribly.

You are a retard who likes PoE. You have no valid opinions on anything.

It's obviously valid since you took the time to follow my post history and reply. What a jackass.

As I said, anyone talking about Fallout's graphics holding up are gigantic retards, especially since graphics wasn't what the game was about. I've been playing it longer than any of you Cuckdex phaggots getting all homotional and deluded.
