Just imagine what's gonna happen when Gaben dies.
You mean the guy who was in favour of paid mods? What a loss.
People from "inside" the mod scene have said that it was Bethesda's idea and Valve was very reluctant to do it, not because they disagreed, but because they saw the controversy coming. Once the shitstorm hit at lightning speed, they say that it was Valve who pulled out of the deal and told Bethesda to fuck off. It's why they went and created their whole launcher shit on PC.

Yeah, I know. Regardless, that's what was said. Note that no one said "Gabe disagreed with the idea", Valve just thought the backlash wouldn't be worth it.

What do you feel about that invasion of Russian games that revolve around Putin?

I think with a little bit of effort, they can surpass Idea Factory's output.

Valve's Steam Link app blocked by Apple due to 'business conflicts'

Two weeks after announcing it would release a Steam streaming app for Android and iOS, Valve stated today that the iOS version is being blocked from release by Apple due to previously unnoticed "business conflicts with app guidelines."

This is significant because it locks down Valve's ability to reach iOS users, and according to Valve it was done retroactively after the Steam Link app had been approved by Apple.

"On Monday, May 7th, Apple approved the Steam Link app for release. On Weds, May 9th, Valve released news of the app," reads a press release sent out today by Valve. "The following morning, Apple revoked its approval citing business conflicts with app guidelines that had allegedly not been realized by the original review team."

It goes on to state that Valve attempted to appeal the decision, adding that many similar remote desktop streaming apps exist on the App Store, to no avail.

"Ultimately, that appeal was denied leaving the Steam Link app for iOS blocked from release," the release continues. "The team here spent many hours on this project and the approval process, so we're clearly disappointed. But we hope Apple will reconsider in the future."

Gamasutra has reached out to Apple for further clarification and comment. In the meantime, the Android version of the Steam Link app has already debuted (at least in beta form) on the Google Play Store.

It's unfortunate, but on the other hand I feel karma is working.

Looks like typical Valve guidelines and enforcement. Arbitrary, abrupt, inconsistent, vague.

Dark Souls with paid fix that solve some but not all problems at the #1?
:killit:

But thumb up for Conan, we need more barbarians in this world with honor and not other honor exposed.

Lode Runner NES re-release on Steam??:

No, this is definitely not an official release. Not even the NES version.

Looks like the developer (which has been released a few simple games on Steam) has made a clone with sprites ripped off from NES, and is dare to sell it on Steam.

Valve level quality control as usual.

(Funny thing is that this thing is also being sold on Google Play.)

Remember when Gaben was revered and loved by everyone as if he was the Emperor of Mankind reborn? All he had to do was keep his mouth shut and Valvedrones would still love him.

I'll never understand why anyone loved post-Steam Gaben or Valve in the first place. Yes, Valve has created some really good and influential games and has created the most popular iterations of DoTA and Counter Strike. Steam is also a very successful anti-piracy PC store/platform. Job well done. But they have also abandoned Half-life instead of creating episode 3, they have tried to implement paid mods, they have refused to create any kind of customer support and quality control on their platform and their only interest in game development is how to create more online cash generating machines instead of making timeless games like they used to. They deformed and downgraded TF2 to make room for cosmetics instead of regularly updating it with new content.

All they do is de-centralize and outsource difficult problems to their users (greenlight, Dota2 workshop etc) and find easy ways to make money. But people will not bash Valve like they bash EA for some reason.

Valve only destroyed their own franchise. EA, in comparison, slaughtered countless developers. That's probably why they are #1 on a lot of people's shitlist.
