Codex 2012 Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex+ Now Streaming! D:OS 2 writing with NumaNuma gameplay wouldn't be much better

now, TOEE gameplay with PST writing I could get behind

The best possibility for that might be a joint venture of Iron Tower, Styg and Chris Avellone.
I'm not sure how close that'd be able to hit to TOEE gameplay. But in the current RPG landscape,
I'm not sure who would be qualified to be drafted. Kidnapping Boyarski maybe?

I highly doubt that McComb will have any significant impact on Larian Games. Larian is already slowly turning to SJW agenda and this is just a another small step for SJW Larian and if it wouldn't be McComb then it would be some twitter or Kotaku blogger or whatever. So nothing gained and nothing lost for McComb, Larian and Codex, besides perhaps a new meme.

there are all sorts of RPG's being made nowadays. Yeah, most of them suck, but that is not much of an argument for these people to keep making up their own shitty RPG systems. I just think making a good game is already hard enough. To add also creating an entire RPG and world to go along with it seems to make it that much more difficult. Yeah once fallout happened, what else?
I agree with your point about relying on existent systems, but you talk as if D&D was the only option in the world, which is too restrictive. You have different alternatives that were also tested for decades (GURPS, STS, etc.). I also got the impression that you suggested that some recent adaptations were bad because developers don't know what they are doing. That's only partly true. Their adaptations are just as good as their interest in making a decent system. if they purpose is to sell more, they will make shitty streamlined systems. In this case, this talk about not reinventing the wheel will be promptly ignored.

Narrative design is different to a 'writer' proper. It's a writer specialisation that's about 'higher level' stuff, you could say.

A writer generally speaking, generates content, and that might be on a micro or macro level. They might be given say a character, area or a plot to write, for example. Not always that straightforward, but easy to define as a dev role.

A narrative designer though - they might look at all the game elements that contribute to the story, e.g. gameplay mechanics, art, sound etc, or look at the cast to maintain thematic consistency, emotional impact, tone, mechanics, and possibly acting as a bridge between multiple disciplines to achieve those goals. They usually write a fair bit too. The role can vary a bit depending on the genre, or from studio to studio, depending on the idiosyncracies of how responsibilities are metered out within teams.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Codex disgust at that Bloom rectum scene was disingenuous? That's precisely the sort of edgy/grotesque imagery you can see on this forum every day. Multi-headed dicks anyone?

Weren't you the one just pointing out in another thread that Planescape: Torment is not, in fact, an edgy game?

If so, wouldn't you agree that edgy sphincter massages are out of place in a game billed as its spiritual successor?

zip up, your agenda's showing

Honestly the RPS guy is more of a kiss of death than Colin. I don't know what Larian is thinking, but they might as well hire homeless guys from the park, they have greater credentials.

I'm actually curious about this -- I did some looking, and I cannot really see where Smith has been published as a fiction writer. Am I missing something? How did he get the job of "Senior Writer" having never published a piece of fiction like a short story, novel, or even a mod?

Its fairly common in the modern game development industry. Apparently writing bad prose on a game review website and being snarky and left-wing on Twitter is all you need to get hired as a writer these days.
