It's why Josh Sawyer will explain the complete abandonment of this dumpsterfire tomorrow. Announcing they are looking forward to their new projects and diverting resources to their upcoming unannounced™ aRPG.

Oh no, it happened.

I was in the bath tub, bubble bath by the way, and reclining with eyes closed while reviewing my aimless existence in complete silence when I soon found the peace of darkness disrupted by an invader. It forced its way into my mind and took over my thoughts, relaying one image and one image only to me:

josh-sawyer-76f8e8e1-5ba6-4ba2-8dde-1d974966e14-resize-750.png

I've been Deadfired. I have to keep playing. I can't stop. I want to stop. GOD, IT FUCKING ISN'T THAT GOOD. BUT IT'S SO... PRETTY, AND BEAUTIFUL, AND JOSH SAWYER BALANCED. Make it stop make it stop make it stop.

Abandon it while you can, I implore you. For the past two hours every thought has been about my pirate crew's morale, what new dungeons to delve, does Maia really like me? I... I feel this compulsion to start a Tumblr blog. I prefer my porn in black and white gifs, I think? Maybe there is a third gender?

Oh no... I'm finding myself sexually attracted to Eder. Why can't I romance him, Obsidian? WHY?

Stop me from destroying myself. End it for me, master.

The Sepulchre has some cool fights. These fuckers just keep popping up.

Maia is the shit. Badass DPS who can open locks (albeit I've respec'd her for mechanics).

Did anyone try Xoti as dual class? Does it make her last longer than toiler paper (1 ply) in melee?
I dual-classed Xoti and am using her as my secondary tank.

I don't know if anyone had noticed, but there is time passage in the game and it is out of place. For me it took around a year and a few months to finish the game, apparently the green god was waiting for me in this volcano for a long long time,or he is just moving incredibly slow. Also nothing changes for that year, the pointless priest that stood in the middle of queens breath for 24 hours 365 days must be quiet the beast. Anyone else noticed this retardation?
Lol! What an astute observation! I can't help but notice our main character never needs to go to the toilet, is another one!

First time poster. Never cared to join before because the community is kinda shit.

Anyways, I think Deadfire is a good game. It's definitely a flawed gem, but what game in this genre isn't? Even Baldurs Gate II had its equal share of awfulness for every moment of brilliance. Overall I'd say it does more right than wrong, and most of what it does wrong can be fixed.

:greatjob:

I’ll probably agree with you after a patch or two. Or three. Or all of the expansions. When the cake is fully baked, in other words.

The point is, Deadfire will be a solid showing once it’s actually finished. I don’t know if it’s any kind of gem, but as soon as they clean up some of the broken quest strings and ratchet up the difficulty I’ll gladly say Deadfire is more than adequate.

I agree. Just like Planescape, Fallout, Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, and every other isometric RPG could use fixing. Let's be honest, every CRPG ever created has been a hot mess. Deadfire still has the promise of future patches and content.

Community is the shit, you scrotal fungus. It's like a breath of fresh air amidst AIDS covered curry diarrhea of SJW and PC virgin infested glory holes that pass for gaming forums these days. How did I not come here sooner.

And the game IS good, your opinion is not uncommon. If that is the sole reason you've registered an account after all this time, it's kinda awkward.

Honestly I am not too bothered that just about everything needs tuning and patching. It's still fun to play, and while existing mechanics need some polish, all them indicate plenty of replayability.

you spend like half of the game in Neketaka, so those 30 minute dungeons on the various islands provide a nice change of pace.

This. I realised this yesterday that if you get bored of street fighting you can just say "oi let's sail around a bit" and do that. Definitely a significant strength, and not just when compared to the stupid first game and its railroad track of a campaign.

Sounds like you'll fit right in then. Grab a chair and enjoy the :decline:.

Not a controversial opinion methinks.

Yeah, I'm happily playing on release because:

1 - Even if the game has a lot of room for improvement, I'm still enjoying it a lot as is;
2 - I'm definitely going to replay it at least once more after all expansions are out.

I might try a third playthrough as a solo challenge at some point too, because the character creation system has a lot of depth with multiclassing, and cooking up something that can beat the game solo could be fun. There's a ton of character concepts I'd like to try out.

Dave Williams was in charge of system design. Sawyer's gone senile because he dumbed things down to appeal to a wider audience that wasn't interested, and he let the new tumblr-pandering writers run wild. Unrelated to Patel's Pratfall, he also forgot that Avellone wrote all the NWN2 companions.

I don't think that's true. They announced him as the Lead System Designer early on but it was a puppet title and he moved to The Outer Worlds before the beta launched afaik.

Sensuki wants to pin game's sales failure solely on Sawyer. No one gets to share the blame.

The combat is so close to being perfect. The itemization is great, the encounters are well-designed, and the build options are very strong. All they need to do is tune up enemy HP and damage so you actually have reason to utilize the secondary systems.

What the fuck happened with Aloth's quest? You barely do anything and it just ends.
Like any other companion quest. It was amusing when entered with shark boy in the smugglers cave and saw the quest complete marker at the top right,it was amusing because i didn't even started his quests. For a long time i thought that his quest would have been to find the fourth form of water bending....sadly it is a cut content.
Yeah, Eder's quest seems pretty... anticlimactic. I mean it was in the first game too, but it seemed a little more poignant there.
To be honest that description fits most quests in the game......if not all the quests.
yeah... Quest design in general doesn't seem to be a strong point. I just finished Serafen's quest, and it is also a let down. I thought they said they were putting more content in the companion quests this time around, but if anything they seem even leaner than in PoE1. The faction quests don't seem that much better than PoE1. There's been one so far where I could choose to help the Vailians or the Royal Deadfire Company at the end, but as far as I can tell it was exactly the same quest up until the end no matter who I was working for. The best quests so far are the ones that just send me to do some dungeon diving.

Every decent PoE game must have some tukohama.
