Inquiring minds want to know. To clarify, by a made CRPG I mean a game that's already released. So if you somehow know of a game that you count as belonging to among the best the genre has to offer, but isn't yet released, vote 'No'.

No, the genre still has some wonderful, wonderful avenues to explore that haven't yet been explored.

The two promising avenues for future "Best of all time" RPGs, IMO:

1) A better isometric RPG using the D:OS engine or a D:OS-style engine.
2) A better open world action-RPG using a Bethesda Gamebryo-style engine.

By "promising" I mean I don't see any commercial/popularity reason why such an RPG couldn't be made. The opportunity is out there, somebody just needs to grasp it.

Only designers who hold the source format of RPGs as their standard, coupled with the ability too look outside the box of what has already been done in CRPGs, will even equal, let alone beat the best that has yet been. So no one in AAA will make such a world beater RPG since they just copy other video games, whose designers also don't understand the genre. There is still much more to mine from an understanding of PnP, i.e. actual RPGs. Alot of directions to discover that aren't IE or Dungeon Master homages.

I'm confused why there aren't more Skyrim clones. EA claimed that was their goal with Kingdoms of Amalur and Dragon Age Inquisition but both are pretty flawed, failed to grab the title, and don't seem to be influential. Mass Effect Andromeda was also supposed to be open-world but we all know how that turned out.

Maybe if CD Projekt made a Witcher game without Geralt. Something more sandbox-ish where you played a player-created Witcher, perhaps rebuilding the Witcher schools. One can hope.

See, if you asked this question about a dead genre like Adventure games, the answer would clearly be yes.

Once you admit that RPGs are a dying if not dead genre, the answer is evident.

No, and if you think so just stop playing new RPG's and go play one of your old-school favorites for the nth time, all the while crying about decline.

Is this thread a stealth question for Kasparov about the release of his game?

He has voted Yes, brace yourselves.
