This could well be the generation which kills consoles.

The current Gen has winged it on a bunch of PC ports & shit "Remasters" from the previous gen. A big part of it's survival has been helped by re-releases of good games available on older systems.

Well pretty much all of this gen's original games have been fucking shite. The odd bit of quality, but they won't have re-releases to bail them out of the next gen that's for sure.

I feel like this is more a response to how successful the Switch has been in its first year. Obviously the Zelda+Mario cult isn't something PS can reproduce but maybe just maybe they see something in the insane notion that releasing system sellers alongside the system itself is a valid tactic and are trying to give ample time for development.

I thought MS was opting for cloud compute.

They could but that would be retarded as any time your internet goes down it would became a brick, I think a lot of people still take their consoles were there is no connection at all.
This whole "always online" is retarded, cloud compute is good when its a closed local network, trying to make the ancient US internet network is asking for trouble and that not even considering people still want to use their machines without a network connection.

Also fuck then, there havent been enough technological advancements for a "next generation" console to exist, no wonder PC is trumping console gaming since its cheaper to stay within the tech curve that paying $499 every 5 years for what pretty much ends up being a $200 PC hardware upgrade at that point.

a console with gpu on level of gtx 1080 today would be a lot lot lot more powerfull than ps4 and xbone, and even than a PC with same gpu, because console games are written directly to the software of the console and don't have to go through windows which is hogging up the resources which could go into the game. (the popular 'written to the metal' phrase).

That is why a console with same specs as PC will ALWAYS be more powerfull than a PC for gaming, it's simple logic. (and most likely cheaper in the long run)

And yet, the games would still look about the same, with perhaps 4K res (useless to most gamers) running with unbearable 30 fps und 10x bigger (empty) game world.

The leap in graphics in ps5 and xbox 2 should be noticeable, it will probably have 16gb of ram and maybe the cpu will also be 3ghz.
It would be a beast console that no PC of today could come close to the performance because of writing games to the metal.

Sounds a lot like my almost 10 year old PC.

Yea go back in time and how much you needed to pay it back then and todays GPUs were not available. On ps5 and xbox 2 you will need double or triple the compute power of PC to achieve the same level of performance, it's just simple math and logic like i explained a few posts earlier so i won't be repeating myself again.

And because the cpus stagnated around the 3ghz-4ghz mark, PC's will be choking on ps5 and xbox 2 ports because it's not possible to write games directly to software like on console.
The raw power on PC is simply not available because moore law has hit the wall, while console has optimizations.

So in first time in history, PS5 and Xbox 2 might actualy be 'the master race' for a few years untill new PC hardware will be available.
