Oh, looks like Apocalipsis was released today, I've been waiting for this one :

ss_87695377a0fb6628c3bde3868cd5a14b1ff12db2.600x338.jpg

Apocalipsis: Harry at the End of the World is a traditional point-and-click adventure game, in the vain of Samorost and Machinarium, where solving puzzles comes with a sense of discovery and accomplishment. This gameplay style, merged with unique artstyle inspired by 15th century engravings, creates the perfect backdrop for a story about heartbreak, redemption and, quite literally, the end of the world.

story_en.jpg

In Apocalipsis you play as Harry, for whom the loss of his beloved was the end of his world. Now he has to venture out into the strange, unwelcoming lands to get her back. On his journey he will meet fantastical creatures, straight from the minds of artists from the 15th century Europe, and ultimately conquer his own, personal demons.
Featuring the narration by Nergal, leader of the band Behemoth, with the added atmospheric new rendition of Behemoth's music, it will be a journey to remember.

artstyle_en.jpg

Apocalipsis shares with the Middle Ages its artstyle and the game’s world itself is inspired by Book of Revelation and steeped in medieval philosophy and beliefs, with the story taking cues from Dante Alighieri’s “Divine Comedy”.
Every location and character in Apocalipsis was inspired by classical woodcuts by 15th and 16th century artists such as Hans Holbein, Michael Wolgemut, and Albrecht Dürer. This pairing of medieval art and philosophy with video games creates something unique, like you’ve never seen before.

Come, let us take you on a journey you will not forget!
IN APOCALIPSIS YOU WILL:
  • Play a classic point-and-click adventure game with a twist
  • Witness medieval art coming alive in a video game
  • Find a new, somber rendition of Behemoth’s music hidden in the game
  • Hear Behemoth's Nergal’s dark voice telling you the story of Harry
  • Meet creatures straight from the 15th century codices
  • Experience a journey through the end times and see one of the available endings
  • Visit over two dozen unique locations with puzzles to be solved and hidden meanings to be discovered
  • Shake your spirit with the foreboding soundtrack inspired by the esthetic of Danse Macabre
  • Earn achievements, just like they did in 1495

HD remaster of 2007 freeware AGS game Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy!:

ss_e805321ce1b53568a6dc0feac9dd02340fefa17b.600x338.jpg

Nelly Cootalot
Nelly, fearsome pirate and lover of tiny and adorable creatures, is charged by the spirit of a dead buccaneer to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fleet of birds known as spoonbeaks. Her adventure will bring her face to face with the nefarious Baron Widebeard as she uncovers corruption and wanton punning in the Barony of Meeth.
Meet a cast of oddball characters and solve puzzles in this delightfully witty point and click adventure game. Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! is your opportunity to:
  • Rescue endangered and unusually named wildfowl.
  • Acquire morally dubious items on behalf of minor aristocrats.
  • Intercept the private correspondances of a daredevil pilot.
  • Come to the aid of downtrodden supernatural beings.
  • Be confused by obscure colloquialisms.
  • Borrow facial hair from long-dead pirates.
  • Wantonly misuse the word 'borrow'.
Background
Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! was originally released hundreds of years ago in 2007, when beards weren't popular and there hardly any Nazis. Times, they have a-changed. The game started out as a birthday present for my girlfriend and got wildly out of hand. In 2016, I even made another Nelly game called Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet. This HD remastering brings the original game back to life, with a streamlined interface and loads more pixels.

Tardy, an adventure game set in crewless spaceship full of crazy machines, from Belarusian developer:

ss_49144bc1897e53c9b6d78b4daa194ad79157d0d9.600x338.jpg

ss_b5037a7dc231285c4774cc88882a8d1a338e07ec.600x338.jpg

Ramto isn’t the smartest guy in the Universe. He enjoys finding troubles - and solving them, but when woke up on a spaceship it was too much even for him. Alone on the ship he had no idea how to pilot, among heaps of weird devices created by a schizophrenic engineer.

Tardy is a quest about fiddling with computers, terminals gadgets and other hi-tech scrap of all sorts. Deal with crazy machines, solve the mystery of the crew disappearance and help Ramto to come back home!

  • Do you like conspiracy theories? Start making them up then! The crew is gone, the ship seems to hate you, the Galaxy is engulfed by war and is teeming with traitors.
  • Haven’t cried for a while? You’re going to see children dying, characters murdered, and the ending will make you weep (well, not all of you, but still).
  • Feel carsick wearing VR-glasses? You won’t need them to immerse into the game. All the buttons, switches and terminals are as good as real.
  • Enjoy playing quests but tired of find-the-item and run-around-the-location things? If you don’t want to combine banana peel to a hammer in your inventory, Tardy is the game you’ve been looking for!
  • Pixel art still doesn’t make you cry blood? Wonderful! Moreover, ours is pleasing to the eye. Just like our music is pleasing to the ear.
  • Tardy costs a bit more than the average sandwich. We can’t believe you haven’t bought it yet!

The colors evoke memories of The Dig, which isn't a great game but is still memorable for the story, visuals, and music.

Not a peep about the game on Steam yet, not a peep about it on the Codex yet either, aside from this heads-up....

Bite the pillow, Tardy. I'm going in dry.

The developper has a page on itch, I hope he puts the game there.

Well, I'm exactly one hour in, and I can already see which way the wind is blowing with Tardy.

It has an entirely linear structure so far, and very little in the way of advanced verb usage or exploration. It's basically a pure puzzle game with a story and an adventure game-like skin. It features some interesting fiddly puzzles that usually involve poking around in notes or journals and figuring out one machine in a room or area at a time, which nets you a thing/some info needed to fiddle around with the next machine, and so on. A minority of the puzzles are self-contained. Some of them are pretty clever, although I haven't gotten stuck yet, or for that matter been forced to stop and think a while; but I'm a puzzle enthusiast, and only the dankest (or most Old Man Murray-esque) adventure games can usually stump me.

The graphics, music, and sound are neat. The writing (which there is quite a bit of thanks to various journals, notes, computer entries, and dialogue/monologue) is definitively Engrish-y. For example, instead of saying "I'm in space," the protagonist might say "I'm in the space." The story is some muddled sci-fi nonsense involving AI, time travel, space travel, cryogenics, and an ominous mystery involving the featured ship and its crew. It's pretty rough, but the developer is from Belarus, so I suppose it was to be expected.

If you can tolerate the nonsensical Engrish and don't mind a straight-up series of puzzles, might be worth a few bucks.

Thanks, it's available on Gog (https://af.gog.com/game/foxtail?as=1649904300), pretty cheap and you say it's good? Well I just bought it.

I liked it anyway. It's got some puzzle design that feels less hand-holding than usual, and pretty unique (at least these days).

There were a couple of instances of using-every-item-on-every-other-item. :incline:
Yes, I finally played it and I liked everything about it, especially what you've mentioned.

Re-release of some 2006 adventure game Keepsake:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An unforgettable Adventure.

It’s Lydia first day of school. In the magic academy where hundreds of scholars should be, none can be found...

Keepsake will immerse you into a journey beyond compare. Assisted by a dragon afraid of height, Lydia takes on to explore the academy’s empty structures in search for her best friend Celeste.

Curiosity turns to worry when she stumbles on something she has not seen in a very long time: an old doll, a keepsake she gave her best friend some 8 years ago. As she grabs it, strange images of Celeste’s life begin to fill her mind...

Do they hold the answer behind the scholars’ disappearances mystery?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keepsake was a labor of love developed 10 years ago by us as an independent studio. For its anniversary, we thought it would be great to see it live again on steam and gain a new following, as we feel that it is still relevant today. It was hard and long, but we loved developing it and still remember those days fondly :)

It's a point-and-click style adventure game blending 3d and 2d which would be perfect for anyone looking for a slower-paced style of game, with great imagery and touching story about a father and his daughter. With this, we leave you with a short description of its story:

Hey, there's 2008 thread: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/keepsake.22632/

also, adventurers seem a lot less dead than RPGs...

It looks like Cyan has finally convinced Ubisoft to give Myst 3 and 4 digital releases.

https://myst.com/

In the fall of 1993 Cyan released Myst, the surrealist, graphic adventure video game that became the world of millions of explorers. It surpassed even our wildest expectations. Not only did it become the best selling PC game of the 20th century, but it also had an impact on our culture. Over the years, Myst has been referenced in television shows, movies, books, comics, and more. It has been credited by other creators as an inspiration as they built their own amazing worlds. It’s even made it’s way into the Smithsonian Institute and other notable museums.

With 2018 marking the 25th anniversary of Myst, Cyan would like to celebrate this journey.

Over the last few years we’ve been working to procure the rights to make all of the Myst games available. As an indie developer, resources are limited for development, and acquiring rights isn’t always an option. But we managed to finally talk to all the right people and departments and put some funding together to try to make it happen. With agreements in place, we’re happy to announce that we’ll be releasing updated (for Windows 10) versions of all the Myst games later this year!

And for those of you who are interested, we wanted to create a physical collection in a unique package with a cool artifact — a limited, collectors edition, only available for the 25th anniversary. Stay tuned.

There will probably be more adventures in the Myst universe, but we’re reserving 2018 for remembering our journey, and making something special to commemorate the last 25 years.

Thanks so much for your support!

The ending has not yet been written…

Project Méliès, next game from Observer and Layers of Fear devs:

I think these people could probably produce a pretty cool game if they just left the retarded "omg we tricked you!!1" Layers of Fear shit behind them. Observer could've been pretty nice but a lot of the time it's just headache-inducing.

Simon the Sorcerer 1 & 2 are coming to Steam:

Unlike GOG releases, they are based on mobile versions. The upside is that, apparently you don't have to choose between subtitle only and voice only. Downside is... well, I see shitty filters and aspect ratio:

ss_07e5a0a0c6eafee4c480e7a576972ce8927287f0.1920x1080.jpg

Apparently you can play with "original graphics".

- Totally new, much praised, game play controls that were built from the ground up.
* Hotspot based - no more pixel hunting!
* All-new slick icons and animations.
* Quick actions using right-click.
- Completely new game menus and save/load system
- A stunning new HD graphic mode that up-scales the game beautifully to high-resolutions
- Optional retro settings: play with original graphics, original music and even the original controls (mouse pointer)

Jengo is a point & click in the purest old-school tradition. You put your mouse pointer somewhere, clickety-click and something wicked happens. You know how it goes: you're looking for the most inappropriate item combination possible and test it out to see if the developers have the same kind of sick mind as yours.

In Jengo you play as Jeff, a disgruntled gaming veteran seeking new challenges. Just like you, Jeff is looking for the ultimate game. Little does he know that his search will bring him to a strange, lonely place at the edge of the Pixelverse: a remote town called Old Meta, whose sky is blighted by a large crack which slowly consumes the land.

https%3A%2F%2Fplayfig.s3.amazonaws.com%2FCampaignMediaItem%2Fimage%2Fcampaign_media_item%2F2018%2F03%2F08%2F802b59f1-926d-4f80-9bdd-3bea71cf02f5

An army of Faceless guards the Crack and destroys whoever try to approach it. Will Jeff's skills with a mouse and keyboard help him fend off the Apocalypse?

https%3A%2F%2Fplayfig.s3.amazonaws.com%2FCampaignMediaItem%2Fimage%2Fcampaign_media_item%2F2018%2F03%2F07%2F1465c6f9-e5eb-42d0-9cb8-e9ff7579f3e3

Hear that soft clicking noise ? It's the soft murmur of a brain in its natural habitat : the Point & Click.

https%3A%2F%2Fplayfig.s3.amazonaws.com%2FCampaignMediaItem%2Fimage%2Fcampaign_media_item%2F2018%2F03%2F08%2F63f97a4d-303a-4e19-8aa4-14b6568f6517

Wanna go somewhere? Just click. We're in a special place where all you have to do. is. click. It's Zen.

Wanna talk? Shh, you don't need to open your mouth for that. Click on that mouse instead. Jeff will do the talking. No efforts needed, no chance that someone will judge you for saying something inappropriate. Hmm-yeah.

https%3A%2F%2Fplayfig.s3.amazonaws.com%2FCampaignMediaItem%2Fimage%2Fcampaign_media_item%2F2018%2F03%2F12%2Fc349ae2c-b458-4e4c-a5f8-10d1581eee44

See that dangerous plant over there ? Don't worry. Let's just send Jeff to get it. No efforts needed. You see it, you click it. Smooth.

https%3A%2F%2Fplayfig.s3.amazonaws.com%2FCampaignMediaItem%2Fimage%2Fcampaign_media_item%2F2018%2F03%2F08%2Ffcd1a6d8-2809-494b-b9c4-23f1cbc54e99

Wanna get Jeff killed on a whim? That's okay, he is your puppet after all. Send him do something stupid, and watch him die a pointless death.

Well, you can also do actual efforts and solve the many puzzles we have been lovingly cooking up for you. That's okay too, I guess.

Jeff
Our Hero, if the late 80s were still relevant. Can play the gamepad all right, but really, really prefer a keyboard and mouse. Unbeknownst to him - and to many others - he's the Pixelverse only hope against the Faceless invasion.

Tito
Tito is the bartender of the Warp and Whistle. He has a borehole in the head and gets twitchy around mushrooms. Some would say that the gap in his cranium is a direct path to the most disturbing warp zone there is. Depending on whether you take that literally or not, you just might be right.

Space Marine. Sandy doesn't take kindly on interlopers. Sandy doesn't take kindly on strangers. Sandy doesn't even take kindly on her friends. In short, Sandy doesn't take kindly at all.
