I wonder if the tanking of Siege of Dragonspear forced them to scale back whatever plans they had for original content to the point where either Gaider was no longer interested in working on whatever project or Beamdog no longer felt it was reasonable to keep him on.

They're working with WotC. WotC is a division of the Hasbro empire that Hasbro execs never feel is making as much money as it should, so as a result they never like investing their own money in third party projects (because the manager who loses it will get fired) but love raking in money from third-party successes. So they want Interplay/Bioware/Obsidian to make a game and they want Atari to pay for it, but then they want a huge share of the profits.

Caused them to have abortive relationships with most late 90s-early 2000s game developers who used their license.

Whether or not Siege of Dragonspear is successful or not is sort of irrelevant because WotC will always approach third party investments with extreme skepticism. Even if SoD had been successful, they would have reasoned it was a one-time fluke that couldn't be repeated.

I'm philosophically confused. So the massive pile of shit that is Beamdog has lost a large turd...does this make them less shitty, or will shit always be shit no matter the division of it?

What an utter tempest in a tea pot. Call me when Beamdog actually releases something besides a remaster. I don't know how you guys even manage to form such strong opinions on non-entities

As fans of Dragon Age, KoTOR, Baldur’s Gate, and many of the other incredible worlds Dave has helped create, we’re excited to find out what’s next (come on, give us a clue Dave!) be it a new game, novel, or whatever else it is you choose to create.

WOW firing a person and then publicly asking what is he going to do next... Please tell us? Oh, c'mon! Don't keep us waiting? Are going to sit on your unemployment benefit? Don't spend it in on month and please tell us!

How low can this industry go?

I do not like Gaider I think he is a poor man's TC (when TC was sane), but his production is still leagues above beemdog, not sure why they fired him, unless they are shutting doors...

Firing? Doesn't it look more like he decided to leave?

Or forced out due to an inability to land a publisher backed project for his team and not really due to any dissatisfaction with his performance or ability.

I'd like to take this time to point out David Gaider was incapable of making a decent and functional warrior in RoA, the easiest class to make in the game. I think he encompasses what makes this site so special now, him and Todd Howard, and the popular Jrpg devs.

I like how this got a bunch of what I assume are bad icons. A supposed rpg developer can't make a simple character in the best rpg trilogy ever made and this community doesn't give a shit. Why? Because none of you fucking morons could either and that's why you stick to children's games like Pyre, Final Fantasy, and all the major console releases.

What function does a supposed rpg site have when its community can't even play the real games from the genre?

It is always a pleasure to visit prestigious Codex because of threads like this.
Laughed hard, feel like I'm on marijuana, cocaine and adderol in same time.
Thanks!

And yes - I love you codexers because of one simple reason - you are (still) exist in this world.

Rumours say that Gayder's writing wasn't quite progressive for beamdog's standards and they'd like a better ally.

I actually think Beamdog is actively trying to purge their SJW image.
They fired the SJW's that caused that huge shit show during SoD. Now Gaider is dumped.

I think they have realized that they were pandering to the wrong crowd.
But who knows - I could be wrong..

I will say though, that with a few exceptions, they will be in for a rude awakening from the NWN1 community if they continue down their SJW path.

Yeah, that's who he means they fired.

Or well, supposedly not fired, she just moved to places better suited for her talents... like posting on Twitter.

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
They really went all in with the SJW shit.

Amber Scott already had a reputation as an SJW fanatic, the shit she writes for Paizo isn't exactly subtle.

This news makes GOG even more pathetic. They've listened to the demands of such insignificant company and earlier they allowed Beamdog to spread lies about them with no consequences.
As a business, Good-Old-Games reputation is built on being the only store who specialises in modern support for old games. No point dangling an older version in front of new customers when some other team is keeping it updated externally - it would just cause headaches.

Which reminds me, anyone know what happened to Dege (DGvoodoo2 Mod) and his alleged "partnership" with GoG? Still a lot of games in need of proper scaling fixes etc.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
So there won't be a "A transgender adventures in the Forgotten Realms" series about the transgender offspring of the dead god of faggotery?

Bro, that could potentially be a good storyline: find a ring of gender stabilization so that you can be a real boy/girl. They could call it Forgotten Realms: Penis Envy.

I wish more RPGs had personal main quests rather than save the world/realm stuff, like PST or MotB. Or even BG2 to a lesser extent.

Serpent in the Staglands Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath
To be honest Gaider's tale is a tragic one. He did a lot of location and encounter design for BG2, made the Ascension mod which massively inclines ToB, and even after becoming a writer for Bioware did design work for the :obviously: Pop Demand Mod for Vicky 2.

But for some godforsaken reason Bioware decided the best use for him was to make him a writer, which is something he has never displayed any aptitude for whatsoever. Now he is an instantly hated name by people with good taste, but it didn't have to be this way.

I'm somehow under the impression that he took upon writing voluntarily.
