I bought it some time ago, but haven't really played since the last updatedue to lack of time. I also wanted to avoid the wave of demo keys because their servers are apparently made of sticks, mud and potatoes.
Two biggest concerns at the moment is the netcode and loloptimization (probably a result of shit engine, they're dependant on the Unity guys to fix the rendering so that there's no fps drop when zooming in with a sight which re-renders all the foliage).
Even accounting for a beta, the official specs shown on their website are pretty much a joke. Honestly, the way it is now I'm not seeing how the freeroam mode where all the maps are connected is going to happen.
Add to the fact that the ruskies are bending over backwards not to give refunds, it's a big case of Buyer Beware!

Though I have to admit, there's been noticeable progress since I bought it so it's not that it feels like an utterly lost case.

So what does it do right? The hardcore experience is actually there, with all the intricacies of the damage system and various methods of treatment it lends itself to some cool war stories.
Like that time when I was hobbling around on a busted leg, away from a firefight gone bad, I managed to stumble on a corpse stuffed with splints and an AKSU. Not a great haul, but I dragged my ass to extraction seconds before I would drop from bloodloss.

While not a 100% STALKER replacement, it does the job for me, especially when playing solo. The weapons are well modeled, you get to sift through crap to find valuable stuff, there are scavengers shouting obscenities in russians, it all comes together.
The trick is the game is apparently intended primarily for squad play, so lone wolves have to play it slow and smart, sometimes just picking up the pieces after a fully decked team but generally accepting to do a fair share of dying.
And it's not very carebeary. If a squad decides to camp a chokepoint, you're in for a rough time. If you approach an exit tunnel, it's probably prudent to lob a grenade inside. Like I said, you die a lot, and if it's not due to server desync or other bullshit, it makes you learn from your mistakes.

And then there's the guns with various builds and attachments and a shitton of ammo types (had to look up what all the 13 variants of 9x18 actually do, because in-game descriptions are not existant atm). Good enough to satisfy any gun porn enthusiast, but I gotta confess
they kinda lost me with the 5 different gas pipes for the AKMs.

I wish they made some single-player campaign (aka a new Stalker).

Ive played this some more since the new patch came out

netcode issues are persistent but seem a little improved, probably due to better (and more) servers.

The games current big stinking issue is hackers. Hackers galore. Moreover, BSG refuses to acquiesce to the community's pleading to just invest some of their already considerable profits into an out of house anti cheat solution with a proven track record, such as battleeye, instead opting to develop their own in-house solution. Considering this is a dev team who cant figure out netcode better than a 90s mp shooter, this doesn't bode well IME.

I could go on about balance issues and poor map design (all the maps are beautiful to look at but gameplay wise they are retarded), but its netcode and hackers that will kill this game if they dont get a grip on it, and soon.

Looks like the netcode was indeed significantly improved, now it's just PUBG level bad. Video linked to point where 0.8 and 0.7.9 are compared.

This game is proving once more that basically all Russian game devs are shit and usually partake in shady practices. A popular EFT Youtuber called Eroktic got DMCA'ed on ALL his EFT videos because he made a video about the massive security issues present within the launcher. BSG said that it is all fake and none of it is true, but they also then said that they should enable 2 step authentication.

I don't. Not often, at least. I just like juicy drama and it has been a popular topic on a certain weapons related forum and its video game thread.
Wouldn't say it's a game for chads though, I'd say it's more like a game for cucks who have massive buyers remorse.

How is the most hardcore FPS not a game for chads?! Also promotes gun culture so much and is basically made for gun nuts.
If this is not a game for chads than no FPS is.

I wouldn't consider it the most hardcore FPS. DayZ or Arma 3 still beat it.
Gun nuts, fair enough. It does have good weapon models and detailing, but that's not worth being put into a MMO F2P game tier grinder.

They don't beat it in fps part, they do beat it in allowing to use military vehicles.

So, is this Tom Clancy's The Division, except in first person perspective and more cyka blyat?
No. This is game where one shot to the head kills you, even from small arms. Shots to legs can break them causing you to limp unless you got a way to splint them. And if you survive getting shot, you need to start eating painkillers like candy if you hope to live 5 more minutes.

Game is most similar to DayZ except it focuses more on shooting than sightseeing and instead of zombies you got angry raiders and looters with guns.

I've actually been playing this petty regularly for about a year now and I gotta say, this is easily the strongest multilayer FPS concept I've seen, probably ever. It's deep, unforgiving and borderline unfair. But unlike in DayZ, you have a stash where you can store your shit between raids, so there's actual inventory permanence.

Unfortunately, the devs are huge idiots. The CEO is a gigantic lying manbaby, who is unable to deal with criticism and he barely has a grasp on legality, as it seem. The current shitstorm brought a few interesting facts to the foreground. The game features a ton of weapons, modifications and gear, but as it turns out, some of that gear is not even licensed. Namely Glock, Sig, Trijicon and Spike's Tactical products and there's probably a lot more.

So, is this Tom Clancy's The Division, except in first person perspective and more cyka blyat?

Kinda, yeah. Just a lot more hardcore and "realistic".

+ this type of weapon modding:

Or if you are a true chad this:

It's more like "Why anyone who thought a STALKER MMO was a good idea is a fucking retard".

Tarkov's similarities with STALKER start and end at some russians saying "cheeki breeki".

I just saw this post on the first page:

It's AbsolutSoft, who claim being indie but their main investor is this guy:

This will definitely go p2w, maybe a little later on.

Anybody know who this investor is and what his story is supposed to be? Google image search just shits out this thread and one russian website. Might be interesting in light of the recent drama.

I expect Nikita is going to either nerf the raider scavs themselves or give them shittier equipment. The map is too much fun and too rewarding right now.

Really addictive game, pity the load times are so long. I wonder if it would load faster if it were installed on SSD. Since they are doing the twitch give away stuff, I managed to luck out and get VSS.
Anybody else currently Scaving alone?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Some people are talking shit but Tarkov is fun, gunplay is top notch, gun porn as well if you're into that. Soundtrack is mindblowing and this shit is better than some actual movies:

Been playing it some more and it really is a mixed experience. The maps and feeling you get give strong STALKER vibes minus the mutants. Then you have the Scavs NPC faction that you can temporarily join and that creates you a temp char with random equipment. And PMC you main char that can equip all the hard-earned weapons and armor, then lose them all if someone takes him out. So the game sort of encourages not to get attached to things and have a backup gear ready. This brings us to Scavs, for me I seem to pull off 3/10 runs, most time life expectancy is from 30 seconds to 15 min depends on start and map. After dying you have to wait a bit until you can do Scav run again, so I found that PMC can be played as hatchet man I Factory armed only with the hatchet. Seems hit and miss most of the time, even if you get the drop on someone then another player will get the drop on you.

As for tips about the game that I found useful.

Before getting in the raid you get a chance to insure your gear.
Scenario 1 - you survive and extract: gear is still insured for future runs.
Scenario 2 - you die and someone takes your gear: if they extract with your gear - you lost it. If they also die, and nobody extracts with your gear, you get it back in the mail."
Scenario 3 - you found better gear but don't have space. Drop the insured gear in some bushes you know nobody will check and you get the gear back in the mail.

Tl;dr - If a piece of insured gear is extracted out of the raid by Anyone (except you) - you lost the gear. If nobody extracts with your gear - you'll get it back in the mail tomorrow. When ppl run squads with friends, they take our dead friends' insured gear and drop it somewhere random, so they eventually get it back.
