Kusarigama is my favorite weapon now, despite the fact that I took it as a secondary primarily just as a novelty. Grabbing people from a distance with it is incredibly helpful and its low stance rips shit up. As a downside, its mid-stance is pretty impractical (has some range, but not fast enough to be valuable), but it's high stance is way better. I use it way more than my dual katanas now.

Just beat the first boss and sub-mission. Started on the second. Maybe I'm too early, but not finding this game terribly difficult so far. I've gotten lots of high level gear just from farming dead players. Those fights tend to be so easy, that I can kill way above my level.

I'm sure it gets harder.

Most weapons seem to have some sort of ki draining skill
Axes and Odachis absolutely obliterate enemy Ki, particularly the latter. Try using Groundquake early on, it's pretty fast and will WRECK Ki on a block. Moonshadow on the Dual Swords is also excellent since it's used after an enemy blocks your attacks (which they do all the fucking time). Spears have a couple of attacks that drain Ki, but tend to leave you wide open if an enemy blocks it.

For Yokai, a generic High Stance Strong Attack from an Axe will break most horns. Same for Odachi. Groundquake again will often break a horn for Odachis. Windstorm for Dual Swords is pretty much an all purpose move, Ki damage, horn breaking, you name it. Even after the nerf, it's still one of the best weapon skills in the game. The new dual sword move, Mortal Flow, is slower and mediocre but hits horns reliably even on the bigger DLC enemies.

Spearfall, and Water Wheel do a pretty good job of horn breaking, same with a generic High Stance combo for spears.

Final fucking DLC sub-mission can lick my balls by the way. I can't remember the last time a boss killed me more than once, and these fuckers killed me a good 5 times. And only on WotSam. Higher difficulties are gonna SUCK.

Have you tried any of the one shot builds?

Soul matching has bankrupted me. Repeatedly. And I thought money wouldn't be a problem in this game. :argh:
Hop into a DLC mission, there are corpses everywhere. Once you get the timing down, you can kill OHKO 90% of them with a SOTC before they get the chance to move. Pick up those Divines, and move on. Should be possible to get a full inventory every mission. Other people like to farm "Request from Ginchiyo" or whatever on higher difficulties, with the Catwalking / Suppa scrolls. I find that incredibly fucking boring, but to each their own.

They're horribly boring and defeat the purpose of the game, imo. My damage is quite fine, just the fight is a pain in the ass because it's easy to get overwhelmed and just gangbanged.

I was sure the catacombs boss, Muneshige, would have a second phase, another boss following him. I was like, "It's never this easy." But it was.

I've barely gone to the store and have done no crafting or soul matching. I know this is "RPG" Codex, but that stuff just doesn't interest me much. I'm still doing fine.

Tachibana Ginchiyo's outfit is cute. I'm now doing that escort mission with her. The level seems like it's going to be good.

Long term, I'm thinking that as soon as I get the stamina for it, I'll switch the pieces of WOTW and the Tatenashi for WOTE and start pumping body. I wonder whether it is possible to stack the bonuses for Change to Attack Body from the WOTE with Change to Attack Stamina on the Weapon, pump both Body and Stamina to 200 and Skill to 99.

Don't forget Ethereal Sets exist on WotD and above, I think. Possibly even WotW. They can only appear on items that normally aren't set pieces, including weapons. 2 Ranged weapons with the matching set will give a 3pc bonus with a Yasakani Magatama / Yata Mirror.
My personal plan is (With -1 Set Bonus):
2 Pieces of Tatenashi
2 Ranged Weapons + 2 Pieces Amaterasu
Master Swordsman Weapon + 1 Master Swordsman Armor

Then either Warrior of the East spear for some bonus damage reduction, or the 6pc bonus Amaterasu for Ki Recovery speed.

OR
2 Ranged Weapons + Offhand + 2 pieces Oyamatsumi
2 Pieces Tatenashi
Master Swordsman Katanas + 1 Piece Master Swordsman Armor

if I'm getting my ass kicked, and just need to go full tank. Futsunushi is probably your goal if you wanna go full SOTC spam.

Note: These numbers obviously have quite some variance to them.

Soooo, did my first Twilight mission (the beach one), seemed hard at first, but eventually helped me learn to deal with the yokai enemies, and I beat it faster than the non-twilight version. The boss seemed the same as non-twilight, and went down quickly on the first try.

Forget myself the Tactician set (from one of the side-mission), not sure if it's the set bonus or just my luck in getting decent stats on the gear, but it's pretty darn powerful. The basic single sword kick combo (quick slash x2-3 + kick) breaks the guard on most weaker enemies (yokai included). The ability to see all enemies on the mini-map is also extremely useful. Feels good to finally kick some butt :)

I don't really get the weapon system yet. From what I understand:

-Weapon levels are set and can't be increased (right?).
-All crafting does is replace one selected special weapon power (but you have to get maximum familiarity on the donor weapon first).
-Familiarity determines if you can donate one selected power from the weapon. It also increases damage.

Is this the jist of it?

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture
This game is so awesome, I'm quite surprised there hasn't been much more discussion since the PC launch. I can only think people are either put off by this being in JRPG or the lack of 2B butt. It's a far better 'game' than Nier:A, even if the story is about as bad as the game is good.

I'm about 10 hours in and still feel like I've only scratched the surface of the systems and certainly not got my head around half of them. I remember when I tried to play GTA5 I made a post 10 hours or so in saying how bored I was and was this it? The difference in this game is that I might well still be in the tutorial phase here, but it's been consistently challenging and interesting. I really struggle to put it down, to be honest.

Running with Spears as main, and alternating between Kusirigama for Revenants and Orochi for mobs. (Found a nice Orochi I wanted to build up familiarity on and realised how good it was just as I'd almost decided to stick with the Kusirigama!)

I'm lvl 29 or so, is there a better early armour set than Warrior of the West? Farmed all the pieces from Revenants but that was 20 levels or so ago.

Am I playing this wrong or is the water blob boss a really annoying HP sponge? I attack the yellow spots, but it takes forever.

Thanks. I beat him a few hours ago. Getting stun-locked off the platform was annoying. I also sometimes fell into a gap as I was attacking him at the edge of the platform.

Spider Castle seems like it's going to be pretty hard/time-consuming.

I shot an umibozu that was waiting to ambush me under the ceiling with a cannon, he clipped to the other side and stuck in a perpetual state of falling, indefinitely giving me blobs of amrita...
Hmmm.

Why is my katana speed so slow now? Does it have something to do with Spider Castle? I don't wanna leave to find out. For some reason, I can't find anything online about it.

Elaborate, please. Inside the mission? You were probably hit by a web, or are walking on webs but I think that only affects movement speed. AFAIK, there's nothing that could hit you with Sloth or Lightning in that mission. All these things however could be noticed by an icon under your health bar.

Although I did notice at some points that my character's speed, both movement and attacking dropped inexplicably. Happened just today in a mission in which I know there's nothing that would reduce speed. Although it solves itself after a minute.
No, there's nothing under my HP bar. My weight is only 58 percent and my agility is B.

Also, with the risk of insulting you and I apologize in advance, it's not a case of changing stances and not realizing it, no?
Yes. So that's what those icons are. I just kept ignoring them.

I also played through all of Demon's Souls the first time not knowing how to use magic or understanding how crappy my dodge was with Garl Vinland's armor.

One more submission for the Siege of Osaka (Summer). Difficulty got upped to 11 after the final main mission but it's OK because I had started to forget what it's like to get raped. Also, the Grand Tournament was massive fun, managed to get through it on the first try but I did cut it close towards the end. Windstorm was brilliant and really got my ass out of jail. I dread to see what the higher difficulties throw at you in this mission though.

edit: fuck it, I get one shot almost as soon as the missions starts. This one's for later.
I did much better on the uber fight after I decided not to try and debuff them with any spells. Hideyori is such a cheating cocksucker, though.

Big bitch is ez, definitely go for her first. Very easy to get behind her, thankfully. Just don't get greedy because she likes to spam a 360 degree attack. All the advice I can give, because that fight kicked my ass and made me rage. It's the only mission I've died in that isn't ~150 levels higher than me. Grand Tournament was fun, but I didn't read the description because was browsing the Codex. Was getting pissed off that things kept spawning non-stop.

Shackleton The game overloads you with Muneshige's entire gear set for the first 2 areas. Raging Bull is much harder to come across fof some reason. The game starts throwing tons of sets at you later on so you can mix and match.

What have you decided for your build? Still want to go Master Swordsman + Grace?
Most likely Master + Grace + Tatenashi. If I notice I'm getting my ass handed to me I might go 6pc Oyamatsumi + 5pc Tatenashi, with an Axe off-hand for the buffs + Steel Talisman. You can hit something absurd like 65% Damage Reduction.

Funny enough, even though I'm in all heavy armor, I managed to squeeze 100+ points of damage from a roll on an armor piece for a A- bonus to damage the lighter I am.
Yeah, hah. Agility Damage Bonus stacking well with Equipment Weight Damage Bonus is just silly. And the former is global and will apply to all weapons if it's on Armor or a Ranged Weapon. Have you tried getting Tenacity (Recurrent Damage) and using a Leeching Talisman? The Life Drain makes me nervous, but youtubers like to dick measure the shit out of their damage with it.

Edit: I decided to learn Paralyze Trap. It is without a doubt, the cheesiest, most bullshit and absurd tactic in the fucking game and makes Sloth look like child's play. Makes SOTC beefy as fuck, though.

I just spent 100,000 Glory on the Okatsu Transformation, and she isn't even barefoot? What the hell, Koei?!

Have to get my Glamurai on. Shame most of the Helmets are hideous, and that damn Visitor's Dragon Kabuto is only available to Jap players.

The only thing that made me switch back from Okatsu or Hozoin (spear master guy) cosplay was the absurdity of the frolicking cat helmet. But yeah helmets are mostly shit - which is especially sad since they made so many distinctive ones relative to the rest of the armor pieces but they all end up novelty carnival affairs.

How important are stances? I use my odachi mid stance only, i don't like the strong and light stances attacks. idk with other weapons tho.

I have it, you can get if off Revenants. If you want I can drop it for you, but apparently you actually have to wear it since the fuckers didn't let you use it for refashioning.
Yeah, I'm not gonna Glamurai so hard that I take off my set. :negative:

They're such fucks that if you refashion one to something else, you can't even fashion it back to the original design. Would have to make it into my Ethereal piece, which is just so much damn work.

They're different means of attacking for different situations. Using only 1 stance is certainly boring, but if you don't like the others, feel free to try and beat the game with only 1 stance. Just know that you'll be playing with 1 hand tied behind your back at all times.

They are essential to gameplay, I think. I mostly use the Kusarigama and the differences between its mid, low, and high stances are massive. It takes you a while to notice them, but each has advantages in terms of timing, damage, and range that make different stances more or less suitable for different situations. I can't speak for all weapons, but if you only use mid stance with the kusarigama the game would be incredibly difficult.
