Alt-righters and sjws are completely the same when it comes to trying to censor different opinions. And both live in echochambers. That's why they are called echochambers.

No one in the Trump thread really wants to censor differing opinions. They just don't want people like Azlan, who will just post random anti-Trump memes in the thread and make 4 posts in a row.

Or guys like Oneself who will just start slap fights and see how long he can drag them out while spamming oneliners at easily riled codexers.

None of this is really a problem once in a while, but an every day occurrence is a bit much.

This wouldn't even have to come up if a mod had given them a slap on the wrist or told them to cut it out. Just getting shitposter tagged seemed to make them slow down from their up to 10 posts per page spam fests.

I spammed a few threads and got a permaban that I had to contact an admin to get lifted. A bit odd that the people who supposedly don't give a shit give enough of a shit when the politics change.

I've been strongly anti-censorship since at least the early 2000s, and that's never changed. We're talking about the most basic of janitorial duties here, not about taking sides or deleting/editing posts due to personal biases.

I owned and administrated a forum with traffic levels similar to the Codex, and I never tried to prevent feminists (whom you know are just my favorite people in the whole world) from joining the forum or speaking their mind. I never deleted or edited their posts. I would argue with them and call them mean names in the shitposting sections, but miraculously I was able to separate duty from personal opinions.

I must be a rare creature indeed if you instantly assume that pretty much anyone—yourself included—who's assigned to GD must be expected to abuse their permissions in order to push their agenda. A person with their head screwed on straight should be able to read things they disagree with without turning into a meddling little child.

I recall that the first thing Scruffy did when he became in charge of Politics was to move all the threads he personally didn't like into a subforum no one could access and teased us about it like a school bully playing keep away.

It's probably because their politics are deeply-held and treasured beliefs to which they have strong emotional attachments. When these are threatened, they become enraged in much the same way they would had a child, pet, or friend had been threatened.

There really aren't that many newfags. It's the same old faces, for the most part.

The trouble is that Trump won the US election and Brexit passed in the UK, which I think most would agree provided incredibly powerful gloating ammunition for right-wingers, no matter how you choose to frame it. It was then (or shortly after) that numerous left-wing shitposters departed Politics, seemingly for good. There might have even been a few suicides. Who can say?

That's all irrelevant. Basic janitorial duties are very simple:

• curtail flooding (which is the proper term for what Lord Azlan does) and spam
• delete and report child pornography, and in general head off beyond-the-pale highly illegal or malicious content
• curtail sincere threats of bodily harm, extraordinary harassment, and similar beyond-the-pale interpersonal interactions
• merge threads here and there
• exercise discretion (the whole world seems unable to do this anymore; Busch fucking Gardens here in Virginia [a theme park founded by a brewing company] was carding my gray-haired, 60-year-old mother to buy beer, for fuck's sake)

I understand moderator ennui and laziness as well as anyone else on this entire website, and better than most. That's why you amicably let a few mods "retire" every couple of years and take on some gullible bright-eyed and enthusiastic new moderators to do all the heavy lifting and dirty work serve and improve the forum.
