ELEX ELEX RELEASE THREAD

Hmm, it seems that this game flies very much under the radar for a lot of people. Being a Twitch hound, I see few ELEX streams and total viewers, even when compared to recent (but very well known) games like eg. D:OS2. Just wondering, is it a case of bad marketing or something else?
I got 3 viewers max when I streamed Elex, and one of them was myself.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Question for the keyboard elitists: anyone know a good remapping scheme for those of us who labor under the curse of being left handed? I usually just move everything over to the number pad on the right, but with Elex I gave up and went with a controller. :(

Valley of the Damned has really high level mobs. I found them to be harder than anything around Domed City or Hort (only though a bunch of monsters there), so maybe you were right to skip it and progress in other direction.

Good. That PB style of world progression is beginning to reveal itself more and more as I play, it seems. That sense of "perhaps I should explore elsewhere for awhile and come back to this when I'm a badass." A very good sign.

OK game has potential to be huge incline.

But after playing around 10 hours or so, few annoyances that need to be fixed ASAP

Hitboxes are retarded.
I suspect this has something to do with reusing the clunky animations, at least in part. While the animations don't bother me, the deceptive hitboxes make melee a chore. That or all enemies have huge auto aim boost.
Gothic 2 combat is tougher, but I don't recall any hitboxes theee times the PC' size.

Nuclear Bloom
Why Just Why?

Inventory (and UI) is a nightmare
Why does the Inventory have to be like some cheap retarded MMO? Rest of the UI is annoying; but grudgingy acceptable.

Fix these threes and we can finally have a worthwhile sucessor to Gothic 2.

Magalan had Jews and they survived catastrophe, that's confirmed.

The way PB keeps reusing assets across all their games shows that they have some very smart people running the company. I can't imagine how much it cuts on development costs and time when you can just recycle half the animations, models and textures from the get-go, I wouldn't even be surprised if it was one of the major reasons why PB is still around in the first place.
ok let's pretend they are extremely efficent at cost so it's almost only the staff cost, also we assume that marketing and other cost are all pubblisher side.

so 50k euro for developer each year? (extremely cheap)
30 developers? 2 years?

3 millions euro.

now steam, pubblishers, localized price tax,etc etc

instead of 50 euro maybe they get 25 euro each copy (probally less): 120k copies

it's optimist, but even if we double the number is 240k copies not a crazy number.

this is probally why they survived after risen 2/3

I think hit box thing is done on purpose, to encourage rolling instead of running. Don't remember getting while rolling, but got hit a few times while starting to jet packing.

Combat got a lot smoother with a few skill points, a decent weapon and a shield.

Enviromental hazards like mines or gas canister can one shot me but tickle enemies with knockdown. On ultra diff that is.

Heads up, it looks like strength doesn't do a whole lot for melee damage (https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1502981-Kampffähigkeiten-verbuggt in German). The attribute is either bugged or the effect is very small. Better weapons make a comparably large difference though, I just got a broadsword and the enemy HP bar is actually moving now when I hit them. Just don't dump all your points into strength and expect a massive damage increase.

That there is no character overview with comprehensible descriptions/formulas for how damage/hp/armor/etc. work is easily the biggest flaw so far.

Doesn't seem like Dex makes much of a difference either. Seems like PB had to nerf the damage given by stats because of other sources of damage, such as the skills and upgraded weapons.

Any idea what Attack Strength does? Is it better or worse than Melee Weapons (assuming it only improves melee damage)? Is one or the other always better, or does it change if you use slow 2handers, for example?

I took the skill but I have no idea what it did.

THIS! I forgot just how satisfying the progression could be in these PB games. At level 10 with a Broadsword +1, a shield, and a plasma rifle, combat is way more gratifying.

Also, Elex potions are your friend: plus two attribute points for each one! Invest in chemistry to make them. You can buy raw Elex from the shifty guy in Berserkerville or from the Alb Separatists, but it’s expensive and there’s a lot of it in the wild.

It doesn't have coop which is probably what sells most of the console/casual players on D:OS2.

Elex is great so far, only got to start last night but it's Friday here so I'll finally be able to dive in. As usual the complaints about the combat and animations were hyperbole. Combat might not be the smoothest but I've found it to be sufficient enough from developers who don't make it the main selling point. The jet pack was an excellent idea as it kind of offsets what could've been some very clunky platforming which would've led to frustration. Instead we get vertical exploration which makes for more to search around for so I'm glad that one worked out as I was a little concerned when I first saw it.

This gem from the IGN review comments:

"This is just a terrible game it has xbox 360 graphics, poor slow and clunky battle mechanics even playing with m/kb, way way too much damn dialog, a terrible HUD and quest tracking system, useless mini map it's just black with a few blips on it half the time you can't tell where you are or are going have to constantly open the real map and very bad animations most of the time it looks like your damn floating! you can tell right away it was dumbed down to the max for consoles. waste of $"

Attributes have always been secondary to Skills in PB games. You won't have an attribute carry you through the game, they primarily exist to unlock the skills, and to unlock equipment. This system works well because looting is very meaningful. I suspect the "attack force" skill is how far you will knock back an enemy when you hit them giving you time to recover and/or how much stamina you drain from a human opponent if they block it. There is a mechanic that delays enemy swings in the game (chameleon cloak), so hitting an opponent with more force *might* be an effect like causing a delay in your opponents attacks. I restarted as a more melee based character so I'll let you know when I test it with before and after.

Was it a bad idea to tell everyone to get fucked in The Fort? Also, how do I unlock new weapons? I really could use a new bow because I've been using the same Cultivator Bow since level one. Strange that the Crossbow has worse damage than the Cultivator, since it's a lot harder to get than a Cultivator and no where near as effective. Explosive bolts were such a disappointment but it looks cool. Still want a firearm even though the chainsabre I stole can kill critters and other lowlevels like it is a lot more effectively than ranged.

If I could make only one recommendation to people starting Elex it would be this: make a melee character. Not for power reasons, but for fun. Bows are meh and guns are horrible. So disappointing.

So i figured out why jax look so weak: he need to assume elex.

surprised eh? yes it's litterally what he told himself in the first minute of the game: and he REALLY NEED ELEX.

it's not only the classical story trick of any PB game for a weak early game character, it's also a balance mechanic.

In elex you should start since the begin of the game the hunt for perma stat elex potion.

follow the fist escort, you can find a small elex potion + 100 xp no side effect, make sense jax is an alb!

and apparently jax is a super-alb he can drink elex with no issue at all.

in other PB games stat potion and in particular the recipe/ingredient and the alchemy skill for craft them is middle/late game stuff, instead in Elex you can find perma potion recipe/craft in the first hour of game.

so money (elex) in elex is important because = stat/xp

and in a game called elex (surprise) elex is important because make you powerfull fastest than any quest or monster (you still need to kill explore and follow quest you need that elex).

don't fall in the faction traps that tell you "consuming elex is bad","elex make you cold" or "elex is bad magis is good"

apparently supply for crafting potion are infinite, but it make sense because it's like you drink money and you only need to refine it.

there is no point in saving elex when you can invest it in more stats/levels (for gain more elex).

also potion give statpoint don't raise directly a stat and that make them more balanced and more usefull in early game than in late game

TL: DR
a game called Elex based around people using elex for gain strenght and power require player to use elex for gain strenght and power.

so if someone find the game too hard is because they can't read the title.

So disappointing.
You mean effectiveness or fun?

Fun. There's no kick, no satisfaction, no interesting mechanics (save special ammunition). Haven't played with lasers yet though so Alienman might have a point there. But even with that, the melee system has a range of combos, the stamina system and all the moves of you and your foe have been designed around that mode, giving you lots of stuff to play off of.

Can you explain where to find the recipe for permastun elex and what stats/skills do you need in order to craft it. Thanks.
I really want to start as int/cun char with crafting/thieving/misc skills and those potions seems like a good way to make up for loss in combat effectiveness.
