I swear you guys are some of the biggest graphics whores around.
You don't get it. Or rather you do but pretend not to. It's all about the style - nothing about the quality of graphics. Call it a phobia or something. The game would be better (for us - the phobes) even if it had 4-colors CGA level of graphics - if it also meant the style of the art was different.
I still hope to try it one day, I've read about LoT here on the codex some time ago, it sounded great... and then i saw the screenshots, the horror. One day I'll be able to force myself to play it despite the art. One day.

Believe me, I felt the exact same way when I discovered this game and saw people talking about how good it was and then saw how it looked. And I even played JRPGs before that.

Also I understand that people are pissed at the art style rather than graphics quality, but for me it kinda means the same thing - not wanting to play a game purely because of how it looks.

I think we all get it. The Codex would no less object to playing My Little Pony: The CRPG. The issue, when it comes down to it, is that the art style looks too feminine - ie it's made for girls, or losers.

So in effect, you'd be associated with people like this:

Yeah, I assumed that this "demonstration" was about showing that ALL western RPGs look like the same generic dull and brown fantasy shit.

Can't believe some retard was serious about posting this to show the opposite.

Not to mention, the JRPG side shows games where the combat is party-based and stats appear to determine the outcome, like in an actual RPG, while the western RPG side has masterpieces like Skyrim where you just left click stuff to death.

I've always imagined them as something like this:

Codexer: Western games have declined, what a travesty that we don't have more turn based, dungeon crawling, party based RPG games with focus on combat!!

Smart person with good taste: Hey try out all these Japanese RPGs, they're inspired by Wizardry and meet all the criteria you describe!

Codexer: Waahabhaahahaha da graffffixxs and da animedudududud brrrr *farts, pees and shits self at same time and rolls around in the filth*

This naked guy happens to be one of the best RPG combat encounters I've ever seen that took a lot of careful planning, calculation and execution to beat.

Also, literally every female character in that video is covered head to toe with long flowing dresses and other articles of clothing almost as if they are living under Sharia law, is this what passes for "skimpy" to you? Do you even understand the definitions of the words you are using?

I've played LoT2 (though haven't finished it yet), can confirm that combat is gud, and the review is pretty accurate.

Personally, the thing that annoys me the most about the game is the truly awful UI - and I don't mean the presentation. For incredibly stupid reasons, there's no mouse support, and you only get to traverse the endless menus and lists with arrow keys; furthermore, items don't have icons, and are presented as (unhelpfully random and obscure) names in a disorganized list; and all of this makes party management incredibly tedious as it grows in size.

The other major problem discussed in the review - dungeon crawling mostly being filler between boss fights - can be somewhat excused, because of pacing if nothing else. But there's no excuse for the UI being so bad.

That said, I would recommend that people try the game out, it's really quite unique in a good way.

That's actually a very good point and a valid complaint. I feel like I should have mentioned this is the review. Personally, the lack of mouse support didn't bother me since I played similar games on console emulators before, but navigating the text-only menus trying to find the thing you need can be a real bitch sometimes.

So is the mere act of putting underage female characters in a game somehow sexual or pedophilic in nature to you? Do you get a hard-on whenever you see an underage girl in a video game or something? I don't get it.

All the little girls depicted are actually 700 years old. Can't touch this, Chris :positive:

review said:
What all of this means is that in LoT2 the amount of stuff you can do in terms of building your party and individual characters is truly staggering. Between 48 unique characters, 14 classes, different gear, learnable skills and upgradable stats, there are dozens of viable strategies and party combinations for every combat encounter in the game.

48 characters but not a single romance, so what's the point? :killit:

Annoying as they are, they're still better than the - and may Allah forgive me for uttering this word - storyfags

This looks so bizarre and utterly different to what I'm used to that I just might give it a try. My body and soul are against it, but that's the point, I guess.
