So the movie'll be set in the 19th century Congo with Polyphemus as the antagonist?

FYI MLMarkland, box.com requires a registration process to even look at files. Verily, by my troth I have insufficient time for that, as it were.

Fair enough. What doesn't require registration. I'm not sticking it in my Google Drive.

Does this work:

http://docdro.id/shdCynh
I read the whole design document and I think it's a very solid work.
There is one thing that I don't think would work but I also think that first playtesting would reveal it - some times are too long: 10 real-world minutes waiting time for Erebus, 6 real-world hours before thirst strikes.

Overall it sounds very interesting and it has persuaded me to pledge.

Good luck.

Thank you Heretic. I believe you are correct about the time estimates and that world builders and QA will pushback on gameplay and creative direction to find the optimal solution. Numbers like that in the design docs at this point are just guessing. Our playable prototype is still geographically small.

I think it's interesting that procedurally generated storytelling of Dwarf Fortress (and sometimes Rimworld) can produce better stories than real human video game writers.
1,000,000 monkeys with typewriters.

Such a low number of monkeys won't get you very far. :shittydog:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order...maller_than_10.E2.88.92100_.28one_googolth.29
Approximately 10^−183,800 is a rough first estimate of the probability that a monkey, placed in front of a typewriter, will perfectly type out William Shakespeare's play Hamlet on its first try. However, taking punctuation, capitalization, and spacing into account, the actual probability is far lower: around 10^−360,783.

Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld on the other hand can produce interesting stories well before you get to your millionth game!

Yes the AIs do a better job than both monkeys with typewriters AND most video game writers.

I think this game will end up like the KotORs. Mild, inoffensive but weak additions to an existing movie franchise. I hope the combat will be better at least.

[edit]

Oh crap, it's going to have multiplayer? That makes me think twice because you have to take resources away from the SP game... STALKER pulled this off, but SP was really bare-bones minimalist, and that's a whole different mindset.

They didn't really dedicate much to the MP in STALKER, also (unsurprisingly) hardly anyone played the MP mode (which was just CTF and Deathmatch stuff).

The feature got removed in CS and COP as well.

BTW, I hope everyone is watching the Ken Burns Vietnam War documentary.

I am. It's nice to see something about Vietnam that isn't just an old book by some European that's adapted by drug-addled hippies into... whatever the fuck Apocalypse Now is. And Ken Burns didn't have to spend half his time arranging the shadows to cover up how fat Marlon Brando is. I haven't gotten to the end yet, but I bet it's not going to be that he ran out of time and money and just filmed some Filipinos slaughtering a pig and pretended it meant something.

Hello everyone, I'm just another fan of the project. I'm nowhere near as knowledgable about the things you all posted and discussed here but I read through the whole thing, almost that is. I just wanted to inform anyone who has interest in the project that the game director for Apocalypse Now, Montgomery Markland has left (I don't want to say abandoned since the update is quite vague) the game project.

https://apocalypsenow.com/updates/withdrawal-of-endorsement

WITHDRAWAL OF ENDORSEMENT
I withdraw my endorsement of Francis Ford Coppola, Erebus, American Zoetrope, Apocalypse Now, and the Apocalypse Now video game project.

November 16, 2017 - MLM

Along with this, all of the game updates except for the last three have been removed. The context of these updates that were left standing (which don't actually have any relevant info concerning the status of the game, refer to the current Hollywood sex accusations scandal) when searched up on the internet could provide the reasons for why Monty severed his ties with the project. I think I know the reason but I'll refrain myself from speaking nonsense, because I think it would be much better to hear from the man himself. Furthermore, most of their, if not all social media accounts have gone dark (Apocalypse Now Youtube channel doesn't have a single trace of the four videos that were on the channel) Which to me says that the work on the project has stopped (hope I'm wrong). Also several times we were promised that we are getting new game info, along with gameplay videos that they apparently stockpiled. They postponed it first and in the summer said that more game announcements, partnerships and big updates are coming in september, then in late september your only announcement was that you're announcing huge stuff for october, sadly october came and went and not a single piece of game info was posted on your site.

I'm interested to know, and with this update I believe others are. What actually transpired that led to this decision ? If you are at liberty to say, could you spare some time and give us a proper statement on the matter ? I would be grateful since it seems that as I stated before, the project looks dead (I truly hope I am wrong).

Hugh Hefner we salute you
The entire Apocalypse Now team, past, present and future will see you again on the river. Delivery of your magazine was a comfort to U.S. servicemen in Vietnam during times of great personal challenge.

Rose McGowan Twitter Suspension
We vehemently disagree with large social utilities policing people’s speech.

We disagree with this corporate utility speech policing on any part of the political or social spectrum.

Therefore, we have deleted all Twitter accounts associated with the Apocalypse Now game and the director has deleted all of his Twitter accounts, including accounts not associated with the game.

We will leave the dead Twitter link on our footer for 1 year so that Charlie knows who did this.

 WTF?

Condemnation of Victor Salva
In the previous 12 hours, it has come to my attention that Victor Salva directed the movie Jeepers Creepers 3.

Salva pled guilty to crimes involving child molestation and pornography. He served time in prison. As a director it is my view that abhorrent acts such as sex crimes and murder should disqualify anyone from directing in Hollywood.

I have empathy for the victim and any individual subjected to such misery.

I am immediately condemning such depraved criminal actions in the strongest possible sense. I am making this statement on October 13, 2017 – the day that I became aware of the facts.

Recent events illustrate the importance of making this statement.

Fear of financial or professional repercussions is not an acceptable excuse for silence in the face of the very worst human behavior possible.

Hollywood can, must and will be better.

It looks like this Victor Salva was an associate of Francis Ford Coppola and two of his movies were funded by Coppola's film production studio, American Zoetrope. Did he have something to do with Monty or his game?

You sure pieced the puzzle faster than me. My assumption is that Monty has just now caught attention that Francis Ford Coppola has collaborated with this Victor Salva in making some of Salva's movies, and realizing that in light of protests towards Salva and his newest movie his crimes of child molestation and tapes of child pornography ressurfaced. Coppola when asked about issuing a statement for Victor's actions responded with "He's a talented filmmaker" or something along those lines. I assume that since Coppola hasn't done anything to help the victims case, and Monty finally finding out about the whole thing probably couldn't continue doing the game project. That's just what I came up with.

My thoughts are more along the lines of "Monty was looking for an excuse to ditch a doomed project" tbh.

Could be, could be, sadly with their lack of substantial updates, and the fact that they've delayed them ever since the "post kickstarter" part of the project started bundled with these last three updates we cannot say for sure what transpired. I was following it since the start. Not because I'm a huge fan of the film, but because I like their ideas for the RPG mechanics, the fact that they wanted stealth and survival and horror for their project made me all giddy, was thinking "They could very well be making my favourite game". Yeah I was probably a sucker to believe something of that ambitious scope would come to fruition.

Appropriate ending to the game based on Apocalypse Now...utter apocalypse. We salute you.

:hero:

Joking aside, Coppola is really trying to brush it off and avoid answering difficult and uncomfortable questions. Any further comments MLMarkland?
