To bad all the newer games play like SEVEN. Playing it is a good indication of whether or not you'll like Memories or 8.

At least 8 has an optional single character mode though.

No idea how SEVEN plays like yet... but fuck me, the intro sequence got me excited. Really sets you in the mood for another goddamn adventure with Adolf motherfucking Christler and his no-homo bear-pal Dogi.

This is basically Ys seven, just replace Chun-Li with assorted wildlife, and play some awesome cheesy rock music in the background.

Actually , I'm pretty sure it's Bunny Must Die where you can royal guard lava.
Adol can do it to just about anything else, though.

Err... The problem is not strictly the number of characters... The problem is the boring boss fights for me... Well at least in 7 it is.

But who cares let's just go to youtube, rip the ost, and masturbate to anime porn while listening to it.

Trails fanboy here. I've heard that the more recent Ys games are getting better at storyfaggotry. I've read some Ys 8 reviews and that seems to also be the case with this one. If I like Trails will I like this?

I know it has action RPG real time combat, which is :decline: but I am willing to overlook if the IMMERSHUN factor is as good as the Trails games.

Ys' combat is anything but decline. It's basically hand crafted to feel responsive, fun, and addictive ("Like the feeling of popping bubble wrap", as one of Falcom's directors would say).
The story is never bad per se, it's just ... well, servicable. It does it's work, for a "Brave hero saves the day" type of deal.
You don't play Ys games for the story- play them for the fun bosses and awesome music.

Eh. Ys 7 is the weakest Ys game I played so far. The story is banal anime average, the world is earth fire air avatar, plot twists are poor. Everything of that wouldn't matter but sadly the combat is also weak, bosses are easy, there are too many healing items, and with party members you have 3 times HP you really need, not to mention it's easy to just Guard against stuff. Felghana & Napishtim were better and more difficult, and Origins was so addictive I played through it 3 times. Ys 7 I barely had enough patience to finish once.

and the MOST IMPORTANT part of Ys, the waifus are lacking... also, Ys , pls,
STOP KILLING YOUR WAIFUS THIS IS NOT FUNNY AT THIS POINT

The bosses being too easy and generally more boring is the biggest killer for me, Naphistim era games never had challenging common enemies anyway.

For storyfaggotry I enjoyed Ys Origin the most. 7 is weak, I haven't played later games. But don't even expect action RPG. Expect action games instead.

Man, I sure wish that
Sigroon
was a permanent replacement for Aisha, who has the most annoying attack voice in the game. Not only that, but i find her to be a better design and waifu.

RE: the topic at hand, Seven was my first Ys game, so it has a special place in my heart.

I would rank YS 1 as the "worst" Ys game that I've played. It certainly has the worst final boss out of all I've played.

Delay just before the original release date.

Wonder if XSEED's Ys 7 release affected this decision.

So word from the beta testers is that the port is awful, severe framerate drops even with GTX 1080. Okay... you better call Durante, NISA.

Well I got my PS4 collector's edition in today. It's really good as a whole, though it's kind of baffling why they put both the regular game case and steelbook case in the box together. Unfortunately, I couldn't start it today because I got home too late to make a bunch of noise with my PS4 right now so the game will have to wait until tomorrow. I think I'll go for hard difficulty this time when I start my playthrough.

Game company: Damn, you programmers are too costly,so we are gonna use cheap porting studios to get more money.
Not cheap programmers: That won't work, since the cheap porting companies will make a mess that will impact your sales and destroy any future potential on steam.
Game company:You were right, but you are still too costly so we will hire this random guy to fix the port bypassing you.
Not cheap programmers:That won't work since the code will be such a mess he won't be able to do anything whatsoever.
Game company:You were right, but this obviously means the pc market sucks and we are abandoning it.
Not cheap programmers:That won't work since your entire business model is based on growth and you need the pc market for any future growth.
Game company: Get our newest game in cheap steam bundle right now #extra cheap

Not saying this is xseed(especially after their awesome cold steel port),but falcom should have known better.

PC Release Delay Announcement

Hello Everyone,

Firstly, we’d like to thank everyone’s patience and understanding with the delayed PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. We have not determined an official PC release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, but we will continue provide the community responsive updates for the release as they emerge.

We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the fans and beta testers for their feedback. We are deeply grateful for all of the constructive criticism and we will take the communities’ critiques to improve our PC porting in the future.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

We would now like to inform you all of what you can expect from us from here on out.

First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
  1. Random crashes
  2. Framerate
  3. Language-related issues
Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.

We have a good understanding of what is currently causing issues 1 and 2 and how to fix them, but because issues 1 and 2 are closely tied to gameplay, we are having trouble solving the issues permanently.

Issue 3 is taking more time than we estimated to fix because we require so much information to adequately understand what exactly is going wrong. Fixes in one area can lead to something breaking in another, and thus we have to take more time to fix these issues.

Resolving Issue 1 and 2 is estimated to take 2 weeks to fix. Once Issue 1 and 2 are fixed, we will proceed with Issue 3.

We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA

I wouldn't blame Falcom. XSEED have got exceptionally whingey recently and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bid for this at all.

Ys8 feels a lot like Ys7 so far. Hopefully the skills are more balanced. And I see that the dodge roll isn't faster than the run speed this time, a major improvement.

There is some beta testing going on for the PC version (and some of the rumors I heard is that it's fucking terrible, hence the indefinite delay), so it's not a surprise that some people can get their hands on the PC version. Not like you can't use the PS4 version to plan a rough sketch for the edit before getting to the technical side once the PC port is officially released.
