Suppose that back in day the developers of the original Fallout somehow gained all their experience and knowledge of modern game development.

How would their games be different? The technological limitations are still there, but there's 20 years worth of comments and ideas to draw upon.

this way the games would've sold more, like FO3 did, and in this time-line Interplay would be our Bethesda. they would all be much happier than they are in this time-line, richer, fatter, and have much more influence in the gaming industry.

Do you think they'd be willing to pay the price for that?

Well, of course they have to incorporated other technique to make sure the other places can be viewable instead of selecting characters of that plane. Still, it make for nice tactical problem, though not as nice as Silent Storm or UFO AfterX.

Hey, what if Henry Ford somehow gained all the experience and knowledge modern car manufacturer?

How would Model-T be different? The limitations are still there but there's ~100 years of comments and ideas and stories of oil crisis to draw upon.

Oh come on, stop lying to make us all feel better everybody! We all know what they'd do.....

....clone Oblivion while insisting that, yeah really, they wrote that. Then they'd bet the profits on all the World Cup and Superbowl results that they had time to write down before the time machine took them back to 1997.

Lose all motivation to make anything after seeing your work and franchise being raped by Bethesda in hindsight

With the benefit of foresight, Tim Cain would abandon gaming altogether and find something else to do. Brian Fargo would begin the series with Fallout 3 because he's a fucking businessman first and foremost.

The sudden death of Todd Howard in the mid-90s was never explained.

FO3 didn't have any of that. Bethesda broke game in their own, special way.

  1. Join the Master in a meaningful way. Go on quests to expand his dominance, lay traps to add humans to the Unity cause.
  2. Give depth and personal quests to each companion. Companions can leave if you do stuff they don't like.
  3. Leave le wacky encounters to a Wild Wasteland trait.

Just re-release Pong, market it as a post-apocolyptic RPG, & have millions of fans make the game from that and for free via "mods".

I think they would answer the ONE question, like Torment did.

I'm looking for my father. Middle-aged guy. Maybe you've seen him?

Getting shot in the back by a companion becomes a radiant AI feature, you get a quest to hunt them down and murder them for it.
