Part 18: We Get The Stone!

This level is essentially just one giant water reservoir, but there's no water here, since we've drained it by interacting with the wheel in "hell". Apparently, we've missed out on a mmagical waterskin that doesn't need to be refilled by doing that too early, but meh, we can do without it!

In this chest, we find a belt that Nevill later indentifies as magical. It raises Strength by 3 and we find one or two more of them on this level. Also this document:

:obviously: "The first vellum is covered with a regular ornament pattern. The second one shows a set of clothes, consisting of jerkin, pants and boots. The jerkin is decorated with an ornament pattern. On the third sheet the ornament is shown in more detail: Two hammers crossed over an anvil. The fourth parchment shows a picture: A smith teaching the arts of forging to a clumsy looking figure. There's an anvil on the last vellum with a circle scribed on top. The flame of a lit torch, sitting at the bottom of the picture, points right inside the circle."

:x The game rolls against everyone's courage atleast 4 times and if they fail once, they are separated from the party and moved back at the start. Seriously, this was the bane of my existence. It took me 10 minutes to move everyone accross and I had to do it 3 more times, because I was a moron and left the Stone Medallion on Gandalf.

:obviously: "Jimmious puts the torch next to the smooth round spot. After a while, it starts to shimmer. The effect grows stronger until it glows like fiery lava. Suddenly, the wall section is gone."

I'e decided to explore around a bit before returning to get that medallion back from Gandalf. If you try to steal this, you will become trapped forever, so let's donate some of our own coins instead. The second nearby chest has the Salamander stone, but we can't take it yet without dying horribly.

After another several minutes of going accross this floor, we return the clothes to the chest so that we can leave (it automatically removes them from your inventory and stores them back, which is nice), we return above ground!

:obviously: "The temperature in the hall continues to climb. The Golem silently stalks to the pile of ore in the northwest of the hall, and shovels big lumps of ore into the lava, followed by charcoal from a different pile. Then he steps next to the hole and almost casually tosses the medallion into the fiery lake. There's a tremendous amount of hissing and gurgling from the magma, and a bright orange flame appears above it, so bright in fact that you are forced to turn your eyes away. At the same time, the heat becomes unbearable."

:obviously: "Sweat is cascading off your brows. The Golem picks up a large pair of iron tongs and fishes out a glowing white lump from the fire to work it on the anvil standing next to the hole."

:obviously: "Do take a look around. This will take some time," the Golem murmurs in your direction. "In the chamber to the east, you have the opportunity to leave a present to Ingerimm for this piece. There are some excellent forgeworks there, too, pieces from Ingerimm's own hand."

We rest for 10 hours.

Part 19: Azira Ruins Everything! (20 times in a row!)

Hey, it's her again!

:obviously: "You are walking the good road, and you have fought a brave battle so far. But the tasks ahead of you are even more fraught with danger than those you have already braved. You will have to face more than just a multitude of foes and brutal battles, treachery, betrayal and sinister magic awaits you all."

:obviously: "The Goddess has decided to grant you Her favors for the duration and let you keep what She so graciously consented to lend. Beware though: the Goddess' gifts are reserved for those with an honorable spirit. There will be times when you will be forced to do things She cannot approve; but She is prepared to grant you the force of circumstance. It was just 50 XP, we can live without that! And Boreale with Jimmious are the only ones who even have it.

:obviously: "Well met then, and may the Gods be with you." With these words, she turns around and disappears down the mountain.

After that charming encounter, we get another one.

First we need to rest, while Azira cooks us dinner. We'll go back to Finsterkoppen to return the key, because we are nice, then we'll go to Lowangen.

:obviously: When Azira, Jimmious, and Boreale start to lift the cart and the others try to fix the axle, which makes it necessary to put away all weapons, five ragged figures jump out from behind the nearest bush!

Turns out, it's some more poor souls enslaved by the dreaded Aventurian Hivemind. We put them out of their misery.

We start out unarmed, so we have to spend 1 action point to equip our weapons back. Nevill throws Horriphobus on a bunch of them and they flee.

Reinhardt also turns out to be surprisingly useful in combat, as he is throwing Hiyalan Fire. It does only 1 damage up front, but for the next two rounds the enemy takes 12 damage. Would've been useful against those dwarves. We'll have Nevill make a whole bunch of these for him!

(Atleast, that was the plan, until Azira screwed it up...)

As a result the fat gets very friendly, shaking the hand of Azira, pretending they are old friends and then clears off as inconspicuous as possible.

We can choose to fight them, but that only leads to the narrator guy telling us how stupid we were and then we get a game over screen.

I could bypass the loss of weapons by storing them on some character in the temple and then take them out in the city, but that would be cheating, so screw that.

:obviously: The Orcs search your backpacks, piling them up to a small heap.

I've realoaded after getting to Lowangen to try the other options, but all of the screens from then on were showing up as black, due to a glitch. I couldn't get it working again, so we have just text.

Thankfully, they are nice and leave us our magic items.

:obviously: After all, you are allowed to pass the orcs.

:obviously: As soon as you enter the town, you are surrounded by curious people. Apparently, it has been a long time since travellers have arrived in Lowangen.

:obviously: Then a young man approaches, resembling Antharon like a twin, wrapping his arms around him. Finally he addresses you: "Please accept my grateful thanks for giving my brother escort. We are deeply in debt to you and will be at your service with pleasure." To express his gratitude he wraps his arms around everyone of you and then disappers into the crowd, accompanied by Antharon.

Awww, that's nice, family reunited at last!

:obviously: You have now made it into the besieged Lowangen. You can see the Orc Army outside the main gate. Even if the Orcs let you into the city, you are unsure whether the Orcs will let you leave again. A pedestrian next to you confirms this as if he had read your thoughts: "Yeah, the Orcs do not let anyone leave Lowangen. The poor Pelgor had tried it. Boron bless him..."

:obviously: As soon as the passerby is out of reach, Nevill says: "It seems as if we are going to be stuck in Lowangen for now. Plus we're in a besieged city and information and supplies are short. We should ask the residents and see who can help us".

Part 21: Lowangen 2 - Codex Finds Love (more then once)

Lowangen is massive a truly feels like a city. It feels a lot bigger then Thorwal from Blade of Destiny HD and it's much more detailed. Massive:incline:. It kinda reminds me of Vizima from the first Witcher game.

However, most likely due to it's size, it's kinda choppy and they game kept crashing at the start. But the problems mostly disappeared after I've restarted my computer.

First, our heroes visit the nearby Temple of Boron and ask about some things.

:obviously: "You can find him here in Old Lowangen, by the west wall."

As you can see, a quest marker now points us in the right direction to Dragan's house. It's the only time this happens though.

Also, an Inn called "The Inn". How original!

We visit the inn called The Inn, a meeting place for shadow people.

Every merchant in the city is very expensive due to the siege and inkeepers/tavern owners don't offer any food, only cheap wine, most likely so that we don't die of thirst. Not that it's neccessary to buy the wine, since there's a bunch of wells around the city where we can get fresh water for free.

After following the quest compass, we eventually find Dragan's house.

:obviously: "So... what is it?"

We can ask him questions, but he will only answer three questions total and before you get an answer, you have to do him a favor. So we'll have to make sure we ask the right questions.

Fine then. I've spent a lot of time tracking down that Vinsalter. There's no magical quest compass to lead us to him this time.

But first, we find this place!

:obviously: The young woman smiles at you and says: "I am very sorry, but this place is closed from 0 - 8 o'clock. If you want to have some fun or stay for the night, make sure to come hear before midnight. After that time it is so crowded most days, that we can't offer any additional beds." The woman says goodbye and closes the door.

Afterwards, I went on a little sightseeing tour, since I couldn't find his house and no one at the Colorful Flight Inn could tell me anything. I think Colorful Flight is actually the whole district, but it's kinda confusing.

Eventually, I do find his house, turns out you only have to check those houses marked by the yellow star. They are all marked Simple house in Lowangen, so you still have to read the directions people give you.

Part 22: Lowangen 3 - Azira for Prison!

After that... experience, our heroes visit the local Temple of Hesinde, which also includes the town map.

Here it is. I guess Altlowangen means Old Lowangen and Bunte Flucht means Colorful Flight.

Anyway, we are looking for the exhibition building close to the Temple of Tsa. It seems there's two temples in Colorful Flight and the one closest to the Rainbow Bridge seems most likely, as that bridge is dedicated to Tsa.

And it turns out we are right, it really is the temple of Tsa and-

It's in the northern part of Colorful Flight, but first, we get another encounter with that lovely lady Roxor likes so much and discover that vazha is also Jesus.

Yeah, let's break inside!

(I didn't try to enter during the day, so no idea if you could also somehow acquire the brooch then)

:obviously: Dextrous and, most important of all, quiet, Jimmious opens the window shutters.

Yeah! It seems the game has automatically picked Jimmious for this heist?

:obviously: The interior of the building consists of a single large hall filled with various empty pedestals apparently meant to support pieces of art. Do you look around some more or make tracks?

Look around.

:obviously: You trample through the exhibition hall revealing a lack of stealth.

Uh oh.

:obviously: There is a wooden flight of stairs leading up in a small room next to the hall. You do not find anything else. Do you take a look upstairs or just make tracks now?

Onward!

:obviously: The wooden stairs awefully screech and creak.

Also, I thought the game would ask me if I want to pick someone to break into the building, but it seems everyone in the active party went together, which can only end in tragedy.

We could maybe win this battle with horriphobus, evil eye and be my friend, but I'm pretty sure their AE isn't enough for all of them and the only one out of our fighters who has a weapon is Morkar, so reload. Atleast they let you fight and potentially win this hopeless battle :incline:.

It seems Azira is the most stealthy one out of our party, since she is an Ice Elf, so maybe it would be better to send the fair elven maiden alone.

:obviously: There's a lot of screeching and creaking as Azira opens the window shutters.

:obviously: Suddenly, a loud voice can be heard from the outside: "Come out in there! The game is up!" A short look through the cracks in the shutters is enough to convince you. There must be more than a dozen town guardsmen out there. Do you surrender or attempt to fight, outnumbered as you are?

Anyway, Azira doesn't stand any chance alone, so let's surrender.

Well, now Azira is in prison. Lovely place.

:obviously: Finally, you are released!

:obviously: The prison guard hands you your equipment and then you can finally leave the dungeon.

Apparently, while Azira was busy doing hard time in jail for two days, the others were just standing in front of the exhibition hall, slowly dying of thirst. It's like they've lost their will to live without Azira to keep them company.

After reuniting our party, refreshing them at a nearby well and healing them back to full life, Azira is ready to try again! Hopefully they won't just hang our elven maiden this time.

:obviously: Dextrous and, most important of all, quiet, Azira opens the window shutters.

And it seems Azira has picked up a thing or two in prison. He even makes it through the exhibition hall without making a sound.

:obviously: The wooden stairs awefully screech and creak.

But even with the new skills learned in prison, Azira can't manage to beat those goddamn stairs! :argh:

But it doesn't matter, as this times, the ice elf actually makes it further!

:obviously: There are a number of small rooms upstairs. Do you search the rooms or would you rather hurry away now?

There's no going back now!
