It is hard to give a general impression without nitpicking the issues. The small skirmishes feel great and the elites reward micro. In contrast, the large battles felt terrible to me. All the explosions, super abilities, and super units can make it a cluster fuck to read. Overall, the battles can end quickly (perhaps too quickly). Although it has the big DoW I armies, those armies can be wiped out by elites or spammy abiliities in a matter of seconds. The game has heroes akin to DoW II, but without the depth and progression many came to enjoy.

To use your categories:

  1. Graphics: In terms of detail, the models are decent. The textures can make everything look almost too clean and to the point of looking like plastic.
  2. Animations: A mixed bag, as some units look great, but others not so much. An example would be the space marine squads that can look like they are frolicking. In contrast, they nailed the Dreadnought. The Dreadnought is awesome.
  3. Music: I liked the soundtrack, but it could feature more prominently. In fact, I can barely remember when it played during the missions.
  4. Feel: A basic RTS that is more responsive than DoW 1 with respect to unit control, but less so than Starcraft 2. I try not to bring up Starcraft 2, but it is hard not to bring up a competitor. Starcraft 2 also had a lot of faults, but DoW III fails to match it in terms of gameplay, graphics, and presentation in my opinion. Legacy of the Void had a better story than DoW III, and that is saying something. Legacy of the Void gave varied mission types, choice of abilities and units, etc, and I could go on. As a result, DoW III looks, feels, and presents as a very thin game, which is made even worse when compared to Starcraft 2.

I think there was something about GW stipulating limitations to modding, with the very odd reasoning that modders adding newly released tabletop models would hurt miniature sales

But WHFB is dead....

Yes, but they decided to keep at least the Old World in a zombie state - there's a new WFRP (in addition to an Age of Sigmar RPG) coming out and CA's series will continue as well.

Then all I can say is that you and your buddy are a bunch of idiots.

We also had to rewrite most of Fantasy Flight's godawful rules system, by the end!

I am wondering with what the fuck did the pay the composer in order for him to make a soundtrack of this length. Did they sacrifice all of their children in his honor? Were all the female members of the team his whores during the full development?

But is any of it even good or is it just generic crap?

Old Dows had several cool tracks, my favorite: .

Lots of generic stuff too of course.

It does seem to loop a lot, though.
It is hard to tell whether it is good given the length.
I guess we can safely assume it is unveven :D

Didn't they trash most of what made Dow 1 and 2 special (cover, morale, garrisonable buildings, suppression, several armor classes...) ?

They also trashed the aesthetics and voice overs which were superb in previous games. Dow 1-2 orks shit on DoW 3 orks so hard its not even fun.

I just got a 50% off coupon on Steam for DoW3. I usually only get 25% off shovelware titles, so even Valve realises this thing is dead. Especially at that price.
