Max Payne 1 has a much better story.
MP1's story is ridiculous and really inconsistent with its tone. The beginning works decent enough as a tongue-in-cheek noir revenge story, but it goes totally off the rails after the midway point with government conspiracies, super soldier programs, a female Bill Gates personally leading a hit squad, and lot of other nonsense. It's like the writers crammed every "cool" thing in there they could think of. It's fun in its own way, but MP2's story is more focused and generally better-written all around.

I've been mostly just playing GMDX 9.0 lately, and it's damn good.

That's about when the story lost me. Though, I didn't enjoy the first part of it very much either. Even on this second playthrough, it hasn't grabbed me like Max Payne 2. I've just reached the rusted ship.

Rooms constantly have invisible lines that when crossed spawn enemies (sometimes in a random position).
That shit was worse than in any other game in existance, and I'm speaking having finished Crusader No Regret recently. Played DS2 5+ years ago and still remember the point at which I dropped it in disgust.
I enter a room, there's a door with an empty battery straight ahead, to the right there's a large-ish open rectangular room with a ramp along its perimeter giong down. At the bottom of the ramp is a charging station, and along the ramp there are a couple of vents. By now it's 8hrs into the game and all I can think is "fuck, here we go again" - and sure enough, the enemies spawn when you pick up empty battery, when you walk past each of the vents, when you charge the battery, when you walk back past the vents again and finally when you plug the battery in. Possibly during some audiolog too.
That makes at least 5 completely predictable "sudden" monster spawns, with a music sting and all, all in the same 10x10 room. It's like they put that guy who designed all of Oblivion's dungeons to work on a horror game.

Finished Sherlock Holmes:Crimes and Punishments. I bought it during the last steam sale after reading recommendations in the relevant thread in the adventure subforum. It's the first Holmes game by Frogwares I played and I enjoyed it a lot, good detective mechanics and it allows you to be wrong which is always a big plus.Recommended
Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper is considered to be the best by Frogware, so make sure to give that one a go at some point.

I just quit and deleted Quantum Break, after two chapters. These modern narrative games are a drag. A few gunfights between long, boring walk and talk sections and mediocre TV shows. All for a Syfy channel throwaway story. Remedy used to make games. Even Stranglehold, which I criticized a few pages ago, was more enjoyable than this. Finished that a few hours ago.

On the whole I preferred "The Awakened", but JtR has arguably one of the coolest and most morbid adventure game puzzles in existence - chopping up pig heads at a slaughterhouse :salute:

Bought Attila: Total War dirt cheap on a Steam sale, for some reason. I guess I was just optimistic that it would be better than it's predecessor. The thing is that I've been playing Rome: Total War a lot recently, including Barbarian Invasion, and going from that to Attila is just disheartening. It's a lot of fun playing the old Rome game, having guys run at each other and making a mess. It's just plain old fun. Attila, on the other hand, is just like everything else today. Needlessly convoluted and stale.

I am playing Horizon Zero Dawn. It's a game about a wonky mouthed ginger who hides in bushes spying on robot cows. Occasionally she meets other wonky mouthed potatoes and they say things then she goes back to hiding in a bush. I assume it's a metaphor for lesbianism.

It probably is. That game will tell you that men are whats wrong with the world. And they will only destroy whatever women try to create.

Finished Castlevania - Order of Ecclesia

Good: :)

- Modern Castlevania game, where everything finally "clicks": exploration, enemy variation, difficulty, art, subsystems.
- Fantastic fun for the whole family. No filler, constant fun.
- Beautiful graphics, decent music.
- No level scaling, but game stays challenging till the end.
- Huge gameplay area. Basically two games in one: various small / middle-sized locations (bad ending) plus decently-sized Drac's castle (proper ending).
- Combat system does everything right: HP for staying alive, MP (regenerates) for regular attacks, Hearts (don't regenerate) for special attacks.
- Crafting system finally makes sense (subquests based on collectibles, not weak weapons which you sold off 15 minutes into the game, like in PoR)
- Enemies are strong / weak against certain weapon / magic types, so switching those is necessary.
- Bosses are mostly fun to kill, not cheap (avoiding attacks requires skill and timing, not luck).
- Variety of weapons allows different tactics / playstyles.
- Mini-puzzles to get some (elemental) glyphs are wild fun.
- You can transform into actually useful / strong enemies.
- Strong female lead, yet no feminism or psycho-bullshit.

Ugly: :?

- Glyph names are confusing, often you have to read the description to learn what each of them does, etc.
- Stage design is often bare-boned (most of difficulty comes from enemies' attacks)
- Bonus stages are fun, but p. short.
- Story is nothing special and loosely connected with 'Vania lore, Drac is just "the bad guy who is the last boss".
- Some bosses (esp. the later ones) are cheap (hard to avoid their attacks, so it's better to spam healing items / strongest attacks).
- The Castle could and should have been more interesting.

Bad: :(

- Rare Glyph / Item drops are based on luck / special equipment, so some harvestan is unavoidable. Easier on emulator, since you can use quicksaves over and over till you get the drop.
- Last game in the series so far.

Verdict: :5/5:

I've finally finished Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom official campaigns and pre-packaged bonus campaign. Took me around 110 hours. It has some hiccups, like vassal mechanics or occasional diplomatic refusal loops despite very good relations, but it's still a fucking good game.

I'm playing through Pyre at the moment. it's not quite what I expected but I really like this game. I was pretty skeptical about the weird sport-like gameplay but it's actually very fun and it fits in very well with the story. The story itself us really good so far with great characters and music.
I'd go as far to say that this is definitely Supergiant's best game yet!

Lord of Xulima is just great! Nice exploration, good food system (well, it's not annoying and tedious, but is a nice tool to avoid rest spamming), decent combat and GODLIKE cities! Well, I've seen just one already, but it was great - just few NPC, no useles dialogues, but still you can get a bit deeper with story and setting if you like.

Died in the first fight! No UI! Incline!?

But then it turned out to be a shit cover shooter with health regen and bloom + piss filter... has anyone commented how its full of niggers? Like every second NPC?
So I linger around as long as possible to see what the consequences are on first mission. And its 8 dead bodies. Only 1 white male. And he worked for this inclusive, diverse company. I already want to kill everyone. Especially the heli pilot, what horrible writing
No game made the evil path so enjoyable for me yet!

And then!
This dire scene happens! Ahahahlol. Wetback and niggress!
I do "Fight Zeke" and shoot her in the head  , then him.
Fucking Police who break the door from the outside turn hostile! HAHAHAHAHHAHA

^ Why did I click the spoiler? :negative:

Anyway, all the shiposting discussion about Mass Effect Andromeda made me want to replay the trilogy.

Had forgotten how nice the character creation was in the first ME. Instead of your usual "hey, here's character creation" Bioware put effort to make it look like Shepard's profile was corrupted and you needed to confirm/re-enter the details for the Alliance N7 database. Nice little touch I barely gave a thought all those years ago.

Let's see how long I last. :shittydog:

DESU EX HR CONT!

Im surprised how similar DesuExHR is to DesuEx1
All the retarded duct crawling
All the redundant skills
All the retarded writing, horrible beyond horrible characters

BUT!
HR has far better AI! And on Hard those motherfuckers kill you in one shotgun blast. And they have proper reaction time. They are slightly slower than me but far more accurate, when in Alerted mode. There are no moronic exploits like DesuShit1 when you sit in a crawlspace and shoot the enemies who run around like headless chickens. Abusing corners is possible but far tighter.

AND! The Shotgun is actually fun. Like srsly.
I must say, gunplay is pretty good. It reminds me of Fear...
Its fun enough that sometimes I get into a reload-loop, where I try to perfectly execute a sequence...

Level design a bit shit but its not worse that the original. The original blinded by empty size.

Very surprised. 'Specially about Running and Gunning. Its a decent, Im tempted to say 'good', shooter.... ... ... . ..

The problem is not forum seniority but the enjoyment of a Sawyer's game.
The former would be fixable, the latter is not.
