Anyone waiting for stability can easily roll characters or play through the newbie dungeons in the different starting areas without feeling like they wasted time. To my understanding the starting areas don't play the same if you didn't start there and maybe you learn which one you prefer to start with for your real run.

If you want to play now, play 1.2.0.1. it's fine.

I would play 1.2.0.9 and then don't overwrite saved games, just manually delete them after a while

This seems like the wise procedure.

My 1.2.0.1 advice is a hedge against time bombs in subsequent patches that are not yet manifest. I can always move to 1.2.0.9 but I can't move back to 1.2.0.1.

Agreed on all the issues and Cleve really needing to sort out his testing and processes for these patches, but also have to laugh at some of the critics who hang around the forums after proudly announcing they've refunded... and yet should one assume they are still hooked?

On the brighter side, Cleve does patch his games much more quickly these days :salute:

Crypt of Fear (02/88) Errata 04/88
Dark Fortress II (02/88) C-128 (included on Disk version only – not a magazine type-in)
Phantasy (03/88) C-128 (maps were promised in a future issue – never published)
Vee Kloros (03/88) (correction in 06/88 Ahoy!)
Time Subway (04/88)
Grim Oak Manor (04/88) C-128 (included on Disk version only – not a magazine type-in)
Rashgar (06/88) C-128
Phobia (06/88)
Snap Snake (06/88)
Mines of Merlin (06/88) (really an expanded Vault of Terror - included on Disk version only – not a magazine type-in)
Lost Dutchman’s Mine (06/88) (sample program from column “Programming Your Own Text Games”)
Lunar Buggy (07/88) C-128
Guerilla (07/88)
Tomb of Horror (07/88) Errata 11/88

Latest update made my save invalid. :rage:

Cleve is scanning saves and deleting those with bad party compositions. If you think about it he is saving you from a world of hurt down the line, which is pretty :obviously:

It sucks but the game does have its share of teething problems. Hang in there!

Things would be way better if Cleve had released it as an EA. Most people would understand those problems and some negative reviews wouldn't be there. But Cleve thinks he knows what he is doing.

This is something I fully agree with. That's the whole point of Early Access, to get people to test your game while making some money in the process. Since the game is full of content it would actually be considered in fantastic shape for an Early Acceess release.

Withdraws are a bitch.

At least with heroin you can get methadone to take the edge off - With Grim-Wah what do we get? Grimrock?

It was all fun and games until the supply runs dry.

Well, it may be a poor substitute, but there will be fireworks on the Steam forums soon. Cleve was at mild sarcasm yesterday, but when he wakes up to the shitstorm there now... (Problem is he'll get probably get distracted from fixing saves and doing the manual)

Wonder how many of the 3200 have fired it up since the last patch (this posted yesterday):

Cleve's give-a-fuck-meter has risen sharply since release. Now that he has shared his game with the world he genuinely wants people to enjoy it. Makes you want to cheer for him a little. It would be good for him to accept some help. He could use it but I'm not sure he can get out of his own way.

He must be wracking his brain right now, seeing the world turn away from his beloved masterpiece.

I can't imagine the hurt he must be feeling when people call the work of art he has devoted 20 years of his life an early access.

Just out of curiosity and an observation, he repeatedly says he worked on it "alone" and he was a "one-man team" quite often, yet the credits list other people including around 10 testers.

Shams offered help, didn't get a public response in the forums but perhaps there was one behind the scenes.

If he isn't going to go the beta testing route, then at the very least he needs to roll back the current version the moment he decides it is not going to be supported. 1.2.0.7 should have been taken down immediately and 1.2.0.5 should have been put back up. Would minimize a lot of the butthurt.

Does the magic missile sound effect sound the same (or just similar) to the photon torpedo sound effect in Interplay's Star Trek 25th Anniversary PC game?
