THey should go full steam ahead with Baldur's Gate III, using the 5e ruleset. Diverging themselves from WOTC was a terrible decision, at least product quality wise. Partnering with WOTC led to Baldurs Gate, all the IE spioffs leased to Black Isle, and the Star Wars Old Republic Games (which were based on the Starwars d20 system by WOTC)

Their first indie system was Jade Empire, a great game but with a great flawed underlying system (most notably apparent in NPCs)

Dragon's Age was a relative incline, but that went to shit after the first game

The only difference between them and Bethesda is that they actually made a good game or two back in the day (Baldur's Gate Saga), but they've been releasing stuff ranging from mediocre to complete crap for decades. You know, people have been saying that Bioware will be shot in the head by EA any day for years now. They produce blunder after blunder yet somehow they keep afloat. I don't think Bioware will go under any time soon, at least as long as there are freaks who buy their pretty princess dress-up games with incidental gameplay. That's why it is often no fun to talk about them, the real failure, the one that breaks their backs just doesn't seem to happen.
