No free-to-play, but "a fully-fledged sequel": http://www.rebellion.com/blog/2017/6/30/it-s-time-to-talk-about-evil-genius-2

IT’S TIME TO TALK ABOUT EVIL GENIUS 2…

EG_bg.png

Dear Evil Genius fans

We know you’ve been waiting a long time for this announcement, so we won’t tantalize you any further. As revealed in our new video interview with Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley (we suggest giving it a watch) we’re thrilled to announce we are now officially working on Evil Genius 2.

Ever since Evil Genius came under the Rebellion roof, we’ve always believed that Elixir’s beloved real-time, lair-management and world-domination simulation deserved a follow-up. We’d like to make this super-duper clear – this isn’t a remaster. Evil Genius 2 will be a fully-fledged sequel and it won’t be free-to-play. Our focus currently is on a PC release, but as ever we’ll look at other platforms and see what fits and what doesn’t.

THE STATE OF PLAY

Now, before you get too excited and start furiously drawing up your blueprints for a Gravity Disruptor 2.0, development only began this Spring and is still at a very, very early stage. We’re currently fleshing out the tech that will make Evil Genius 2 a reality. This will be the first real-time strategy game built in our in-house engine Asura, after all, so we need to do a little bit of extra work under the hood before we expand the team, nail down gameplay design and go into full production.

WHY NOW?

That said, you may well be asking why it’s taken us a while to get to this point. As some of you may remember, we were very close to announcing this project several years ago. Back then, our plan was to crowd-fund a new Evil Genius PC game and we made a series of steps to launching a campaign.

So why didn’t we go ahead with it? Firstly, we were in the middle of a big transition into becoming our own publisher and we needed to put resources into the projects that became Zombie Army Trilogy, Battlezone on PSVR and Sniper Elite 3 & 4.

Secondly, we decided crowd-funding wasn’t the way we wanted to go. After the growing success of the Sniper Elite series and other Rebellion games IP, we started to feel it wasn’t fair to ask fans to fund a new game if we didn’t need them to! With some big projects now out the door and being enjoyed by gamers worldwide, we feel like now is the time to return to the world of Evil Genius.

So yes, it’s taken us some time to get to this point. But today we are in a position where we can happily say Evil Genius 2 is an actual thing we’re actually coding, designing and er… arting, right now!

WHAT NOW?

Bear with us just a little longer, would-be global criminal masterminds! It might be a while until we can show what we’re working on, but you can make sure you’re in the loop by following us on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and signing up to our newsletter! As soon as we have more to say, you’ll be the first to know.

Yours evilly,

Rebellion

I played it when I was a not-so-wee lad and thought it was pretty alright. A bit annoying in the late game but funny and engaging enough.

EG was one of those games that defined my childhood. Sentiment aside, I also beat DK 2, in the same age period, and could say they are of comparable quality. I always preferred EG for number of reasons, biggest one being the pervasive world. That kinda made it stand out even more than DK does from the rest of strategy games.

Yeah, I also liked it, but that was quite a while after it came out.

Of all the clones, it might be the best. Though I really liked Dungeons 2 (not really a clone, I'd call it heavily inspired) and WftO (now THAT was a clone) as well.
If they get the humor right and the game isn't too easy, it should be fine.

Of course, I hope they include all the right amounts of geometrical forms.

EG1's problems could be solved with some love from devs. Game could be really shine with some effort put into its underwheling aspects.
EG had one of the best musics, still have main theme in playlists.

I want translation of this https://vndb.org/v1086
The strategy part is sound.
The story is cuckoo.

And it's NOT Dungeon Keeper copy.

Extremely underrated game though not without faults. Hope they do it some justice.

This random game getting a sequel begs the question, though, with all the superhero craze going around where the flying fuck is Freedom Force?

Exactly. These guys spend like 5+ years on Republic the Revolution, without knowing what they were doing.

Then they made Evil Genius which was a very decent game, and ran off immediately, apparently while they had just made somey money. Today they could stay and make the game better but that was before Steam really took off.

My dream was to have a separate layer for money making in EG1. To have companies flushing funds to you, justice agents infiltrating your business. To build a corporation that will fund your evil deeds, instead of sending minions just to steal funds.

Sending minions to steal funds was a noob way of doing things that just resulted in dead minions you had to replace at great expense in money and time, nearly totally erasing any benefit you gained from doing it in the first place. There were two serious ways to get money: Either to farm the tutorial, by collecting all the money you'd need at the very first tutorial where you're told to collect money in this manner, but before they've turned on the ability for your minions to DIE doing it, and just leave them to do their thing until you have ONE MILLION DOLLARS, or, to farm the combo bonii from trap payouts where you get paid money for trapping agents in particularly devious trap combos, like THE TRAP THAT NEVER ENDS IT JUST GOES ON AND ON MY FRIENDS. As a side benefit, there is a finite number of enemy agents that can be invading you at any time, so if all of them are stuck in an endless blender, no more can be sent until the ones presently on the island are killed, which won't happen, because the trap is endless and nonlethal: There is no escape from the endless torture, not even the sweet embrace of death.

Yeah man I couldn't play DK after EG. I hated how in DK you need to build a totally new base every 10 minutes. In EG you get to just focus on building up two massive bases throughout the game.

That's because you were building them wrong. You were building casinos in them so people could play the machines. You should have built it in the Russian way: In Soviet Russia, machine plays YOU! Build the thing as a simply a trap hotel where they check in and they don't check out.

Announcement at E3 PC Gaming Show: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/pres...LION_ARE_BRINGING_3_NEW_TITLES_TO_E3_2019.php

REBELLION ARE BRINGING 3 NEW TITLES TO E3 2019!

Oxford, May 31st 2019 - Independent UK developer and publisher Rebellion have unveiled their line-up for next month's E3 conference in Los Angeles, USA.

The studio have revealed it's bringing THREE titles to the show: EVIL GENIUS 2, SNIPER ELITE VR and a NEW MAJOR UNANNOUNCED TITLE.

Rebellion first announced EVIL GENIUS 2 in June 2017, much to the delight of would-be masterminds across the globe. Rebellion will show the world-domination sim to press for the first time at E3 2019, and fans can look forward to more details on the highly anticipated PC sequel during the show. A special debut trailer will be unveiled during the PC Gaming Show.

Earlier this year Rebellion announced it was working on a standalone Sniper Elite game for VR devices being developed in partnership with Just Add Water. Now it has an official title: SNIPER ELITE VR. Press will not only see Sniper Elite VR for the first time ever but be able to go hands-on with it at this year's E3.

Finally, Rebellion will unveil a NEW MAJOR UNANNOUNCED TITLE for consoles and PC at E3. The mystery game will be announced during the PC Gaming Show, which will be streamed live on Twitch starting 10AM PDT, 6PM BST on June 10th.
