Eh? It's clearly self-managing. Like a machine learning algorithm it has achieved perfect balance, and when forces rise up to distablise it others appear to cancel them out. DU just has to slap a few people occasionally for our collective amusement.
I just had a horrific moment of clarity - are we amusing ourselves or are we here for the amusement of the staff. Makes you think...

There was a long rant/open letter from DU couple years ago that pretty much answered that question. The stuff on couple April 1sts should also give you a clue. And the parade of buttons, tags, and user renames.
