Van Helsing might be a good game, but the way the camera worked sucked. It distorted the view so badly that when monsters were coming at you from one angle they would appear on screen and immediately be right on top of you where as from another angle they would be distant, the images look distorted. And besides that it seemed like they would all die anyway as long as I just kept shooting in their general vicinity, something about the combat did not feel 'connected', I can't explain it.

For example the combat in Grim Dawn felt much more enjoyable (even if it is mostly easy too), as your actions feel like they carry 'weight'. I refunded Van Helsing, even though the atmosphere etc looked sort of interesting. I think Grim Dawn is an overall superior product.

As far as Titan Quest, its not a great game, may not even be good, but I do think it is worth the small amount of money it costs now and is enjoyable enough as just a time waster when I don't feel like getting deeply involved in something like War in the East or Silent Hunter III etc..
I'm curious why no one is considering Path of Exile. It's free, after all, and the game has gone a long way since beta. Right now it's one of the best Diablo-style ARPGs on the market.
They will also release a new expansion soon, which will add 6 new acts.

Second week, just a bit of shuffle and the thing is still on the top:

Eurogamer article - PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds as the WoW of Early Access multiplayer survival shooters: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...d-from-the-messy-history-of-survival-shooters

EVE is the exception, however, to a brutal rule: these wide-open online sandboxes are not consistent, and they do not last. Games get solved, and as they do their vocabulary shrinks. Those tense personal standoffs over a tin of beans in DayZ's early days were the product of player naivety: over time it became quicker and simpler to shoot each other and as a consequence the game went back to being a shooter. When this happens, it reveals what a multiplayer sandbox is actually about, and in turn this provides an opportunity for somebody else to come along and do that one thing better. As Ultima Online begat EverQuest begat World of Warcraft, so DayZ begat H1Z1 begat PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. There's a bittersweet symmetry to the way that Sony Online Entertainment, now Daybreak, occupy the midpoint of two different epoch-defining family trees.

That's an abridged genealogy: the rise of hunger games modes in Minecraft played an important part, as did the ongoing work of the same ArmA modding community that produced DayZ. It's worth pausing on H1Z1 in particular as the point where these factors coalesced and abruptly pivoted towards the form that Battlegrounds would ultimately adopt. Conceived as a game much closer to DayZ - something that would take advantage of SOE's experience as an MMO developer - H1Z1 instead owed its success to the popularity of its King of the Kill battle royale mode. This was the point where all of those different bloodlines intersected, where wisdom earned through the rapidly iterative process of mod development collided with an ambitious MMO template gradually degenerating into its basic component parts.

A little traditional multiplayer logic - some structure - in other words - made sense of the two. Matches had a defined length, a winner, something resembling item balance, and a metagame. Something of the heady potential of a survival sandbox survived in reduced form, but crucially this act of reduction made those experiences consistent and repeatable. It remained - remains - exciting to run into another player in the wilderness because both knew what to expect from the encounter. The survival shooter gained a measure of coherence, albeit by accident: H1Z1's biggest imperfections stem from the fact that the game it has become was not the game it was originally intended to be.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' tremendous success - at more than four million copies sold in three months, it must be considered among one of the biggest games of year on any platform - is owed to the remarkable-for-being-remarkable fact that it is one of the few games of its type that was conceived from the ground up to be the game that it is. It is very much like H1Z1 and the ArmA mods that made its lead designer's name, but it arrives with the backing of a publisher, with a specific design and scope, with a relatively traditional, easily-understood structure. It takes what was fundamentally appealing about survival sandbox games and makes it quick, accessible, relatively stable, and good-looking: more or less exactly what World of Warcraft did for the MMO, with equivalent results.
All this massive overthinking for a very simple issue: PUBG caters to people that have non-existent attention spans (which is why it's so popular on streams - people 'play' it while doing something else, just look at some of these tards, they barely look at the screen half the time), who have little to no mechanical skills (they can run around like mongoloids for a few minutes without getting shot) and who are also sperglords for shiny stuff they can pick up (i.e. the loot that's randomly distributed).

It's a fucking awful game for an awful generation. But it's yet another example that people don't really want to play their games, they want a distraction while they're distracted by something else.

Grab the Codex by the pussy
I finally picked up the pure puzzle game KAMI this sale. It had been on my wishlist for years. The puzzles increase in difficulty with each successive set of nine and especially near the end of each set, becoming quite challenging at the end of later sets. I'm impressed with it, although it's pretty standard fare; aside from its Japanese paper-folding gimmick, which would be inconvenient but not impossible to reproduce without a computer, it could easily have been a series from an adult's puzzle book or magazine decades ago.

Everything was going pretty smoothly until the 34th or 35th puzzle, but now I'm stumped. Best thing to do is put it down and come back later, at which point I expect to solve the one I'm stuck on in about a minute or two and move on.

It's $1.20 on sale. Anyone who likes puzzles should pick it up; there are 72 puzzles and it should last at least several hours of nonstop puzzling, even if you're very fast.

I play path of exile, I like it. But I do like Grim Dawn more for some reason, not sure why. I think it looks better for one, but path of exile is a fun game.

Well I hear it's multiplayer only and I play only SP.
Path of Exile? I play it single player and have never done the multi-player part and never will. If that is what you are referring to with your question...
Ok but is there a single player campaign? Or is multiplayer online stuff played solo?
I was under the impression it was the second of the two.

It works like diablo 2. Unless you specifically enter a multiplayer lobby you are not goigng to see other people playing.

You mean there's a Single Player Campaign, AND it's free?
What's the catch?
You mean the catch as in where do they get money from? They sell cosmetics.
Or by catch you mean what keeps people interested in playing the game? They have very advanced and involved ladder system, with various races going (from few hours to several months) on which have different rules and special rewards for people participating, plus they release new content (new build enabling items and etc.) regularly.

I got Arma 3 Apex 20€
Ultimate General Civil War 18
Shadow of mordor 3.99
This war of mine 3.99
L.A. Noire 8.99

I also thought about that Alien Isolation game, but this is simply not my genre.
And Squad, but I am already overloaded with online fps (RS2, Verdun and Arma)

yeah it's great
This thread prompted me to think about buying it even though my computer can't run it, in dreams of a brighter future. Then I went to the Steam page and saw this screenshot:

I'm sure there's some explanation for what is going on here, but man does it look goofy.
