"Dear The Guild 3 fans, in the course of Gamescom we would like to announce that the release of The Guild 3, planned for 2016, is postponed to the first quarter of 2017. We have taken this decision in order to have enough time to deliver the best possible experience on the day of the release."

Anything you want to know about the gameplay (or any questions for the devs) can go here.

I didn't check this thread again after I made that post, so I didn't see the last three questions :M

Got some pertinent questions answered:

http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=10472

1) Ask them about modding. How hard will it be to implement custom assets (models, textures etc.) to the game? Can we expect new business lines in mods? They were promoting the game around it, so I'm curious how much of it still stands (and if modding for them doesn't mean map editor only).

:negative:

Good that they don't plan to create shitloads of worthless DLC. At the same time, I'm pretty sad that we won't be able to use our custom assets.
Still, thanks for the interview. Looks like they are creating a solid foundation to build upon.

Ports and sea trade
As you may remember, we told you earlier that the primary goal of the game, if you want it to be, can be to develop trade and business, and it’s normally done through commerce. So keep in mind that markets and trade are really important and that it can become the center of your gameplay.

But then again, in The Guild 3, you will have another option for trade and profits and it is another important feature: the marine components of the game! We are talking about the ports, the ships, the seas and everything related. In another post, we talked a bit about the far trade that you will be able to use, once you unlocked this action. All this trade is linked directly to the ports that you will find in the scenario maps of the game. Well, far trade is not only possible via ships, but we will concentrate on maritime trade here…

Besides the ports, you will find that there are three types of ships in The Guild 3: the smaller one is like a rowboat, the medium one is for merchants traveling individually and the big one is for a larger crew of merchants, going for a big trip. Regarding each waterways they were all inspired by the real ones. The artists tried to make them as similar as possible, as far as shape and historical accuracy goes. For example; the Seine is present in the Paris map, the river Thames is in London, etc.

And how will you be able to make use of them in The Guild 3? Remember, in addition to the markets to buy or sell any items, there will be far trade as well. When you feel like markets are not the best option for you, or when markets aren’t giving you what you “need”, you will have to consider going to a farther market “outside” of the map, sometimes using a boat (or a cart)! When you want some silk, wine, or anything else imported, you will have to jump on a boat and sail away (manner of speaking !). But yes, sending ships overseas will be a way of making more money with these rare items. It will be the opportunity to buy (at a lower price) or sell (at a higher price) products that aren’t even in your local markets.

Also, keep in mind that upon your arrival at the port, you will send a ship that will sail farther away in the map (but like in another map)! While you can’t see what happens outside the map boundaries, once you send your ship, a menu will appear to keep you updated of the time and the progress of your “transaction”. So you will always know what’s happening, even if you’re not physically there.

FAQ (1)
We know you are (im)patiently waiting for your favorite game and we completely understand. But while we are busy at work finishing it ;-), we took a little time to answer some frequently asked questions. Just know that we took a look at several of your questions on Facebook, all the forums and Steam.

We will be coming back this Thursday with more answered questions!

1- When is The Guild 3 coming out?

GolemLabs and THQ Nordic both want to create the best game possible of The Guild 3 for you. Please know that when the game is released, it’s because the level of quality will have met the highest of expectations. This is why that for now, all we can tell you is that we plan to release the game during the second half of 2017.

2- Can I help you testing The Guild 3? (Beta tester, Closed Beta, Early access, etc.)

We don’t have a set schedule for “public” testing at the moment. We may have one in the future but a definite decision has not yet been taken. We’ve been testing with various outside groups in addition to everyone at GolemLabs and THQNordic.

3- Will the game have that annoying bug from the prior version?

We’ve started from scratch on the technology side, so no codebase elements from the previous titles are present in the game, and likely no previous bugs will creep up in this version. We’re currently making sure that, as with any PC game, The Guild 3 is as bug-free as can be so that launch and post-launch support is as smooth as possible.

4-There is a feature of TG1 or TG2 that I really love – did you include it?

When we started designing The Guild 3, we wanted to keep the best elements from the previous titles. We also wished to push those titles even further in some new directions. The official website and Facebook page are currently showcasing some of these new features. But we can tell you that one of the main focus right from the start has been to create a “real” Guild game that would feel familiar to every fans of the series.

5- Will The Guild 3 come in a box version? With a Steam code? On Steam? Will it be available online or in a store? And can I pre-order?

Yes, yes, yes and yes! We will maximize the opportunities for you to get the game on release, both physically and digitally. Stay tuned for more information when we get closer to release.

6- Will the game support Multiplayer outside of Steam?

We’re using a matchmaking system that isn’t dependant on a Steam account. So yes, both Steam and non-Steam players can play together (you can even have LAN and internet combined games). We’re supporting some Steam features though, like achievements and the ability to use it to distribute custom content created by the players.

7- Do you plan to release the game on Mac? On PlayStation, XBox, etc.?

For now, The Guild 3 will only be released on PC. If there is more, we will inform you. Releasing the game on Mac is on our list for a possible ports, but there’s nothing official yet.

8- Which languages will be available at release?

For now, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Polish. Others might be available in the future.

9- Will you be able to view inside your business and see your character and employees at work?

In The Guild 3, you will have interior scenes, but not for all businesses. We bring the work visualizations to the 3D world. Scenes where gameplay warrants it, like in the inn, medicus or the church, will have interior scenes, as is the case with the inside of your home.

10- I’ve seen the game working last summer, how come it’s not released yet? Is there a problem?

The game has been working for a very long time, yes. But The Guild 3 is a complex game, and our goal has always been to make it as good as possible. Sometimes ideas that we had turned out not working too well, and sometimes new things came along that we wanted to try. This does not mean that development will continue forever, of course! But we’ve said from the beginning that we’d release the game when it meets our standards of fun, and that’s why we’re not taking anything for granted and always making sure everything is top-notch.
FAQ (2)
Back with more answers from the frequently asked questions.

Thank you for the support and see you next week!

1- When will you release a gameplay video?

The game has been functional and under testing for many months now while we add features and fine-tune those that are there. The 12 maps that will be released are also constructed, and they are under various levels of tweaking and optimizations, so you shouldn’t worry about the state of the game. The reason why we haven’t released a video yet is that while the game is under development, we have put our energy on gameplay before performance, so the game works but the framerate isn’t representative right now of how the game will feel when it comes out. The screenshots aren’t doctored in any way whatsoever as well, so we want to release a video that will look like how the game will look, with the performance it will have. Now that we’re close to being content complete, our engineers are working on cranking up the framerate. When that will be satisfactory, we’ll show you the game in movement.

2- What will be available in the Aristocratic Edition of the game of The Guild 3?

The Aristocratic Edition of The Guild 3 will contain some really special stuff like: a “Making-Of DVD” of the game, an original soundtrack and a specially designed cardgame. But there’s also a Balbulus of Boon collector’s figurine on top of that! Like we talked last week, there will be multiple sections in our Making-Of: a “meet-the-teams” section (programmers, artists, producers, etc.), a look at the beginnings of the project and the initial ideas that helped launch everything. To top it all off, the Making-Of will have a wonderful outtakes section and a “mean” comments one! If you are a diehard fan, you really need to pre-order it!

3- Will there be any fantastic things?

No, nothing fantastic will be in The Guild 3. The basis of the Guild franchise is set in historical middle ages. Adding magic swords and skeletons would completely break the mood :).

4- How many maps and how big will they be at release?

There will be 12 official maps upon release. Our plan is to continue adding more afterwards, as well as release the map editor to the community to let everyone create their settings. The maps vary in size, but will reach many times the size of TG2 maps.

5- What are the system requirements for the game on PC ?

Minimum:

  • OS: Windows 7 or higher
  • Processor: 2.5 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 2 GB Direct3D 11 capable video card (GeForce GTX 470 or Radeon HD 5850)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 5 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible Sound card
Additional Notes: These are preliminary system specs that can and will change!

6 – How far will customization go in The Guild 3? Will we be able to change outfits this time? To edit our home interior, etc.?

You will be able to customize your character and we will implement some different clothing for him/her. You will have several choices to dress him/her up. You will also be able to choose its face, its size and its voice. But the interior objects of your residence will be static; no customization for that.

7 – In The Guild 3, the players will only play one character at a time. Why?

You play the leader of the family. So in that sense, you control the world with a single character. But as the leader of a family, you get to direct all resources of that family, including employees and other family members. It’s just that their action range is more limited than the leader that has the legitimacy to do certain things. The other employees can be directed to perform various crafting, transport or actions, and the family members can be traded, married, placed in political positions, sent to school or long trips, etc.

8 – Can you talk a little bit more about the AI and EHE?

One of the early design decisions that we made was to have more realistic decision-making and behaviours from the game’s NPC characters and AI-controlled families. While we tailored the code for this game’s specific needs, we’re trying to make it as challenging to play with and against as we can.

For extra information regarding the EHE’s philosophy and original idea, you can have more information here: https://www.gamedev.net/resources/_/technical/artificial-intelligence/making-machines-learn-r3947

9 – How long can a game last?

You can continue playing a single game forever, as long as your dynasty isn’t extinct. Some players continued games well up into the 20th century with TG2 Renaissance! Of course, the game doesn’t reflect innovations and changes of the passage of time, but you can still continue playing.

10 – What’s the deal with all the chickens?

They’re delicious, that’s all!

Feels like I have been waiting for a third Guild game for ages! Almost as long as I have waited for Mount & Blade 2.

Really looking forward to this one though, hope its good. Used to play Europa 1440 to death.

The Guild 3 will go into Early Access via Steam on September 26th 2017!

The full release of the game is expected to be in Q2 2018. A detailed timeline on Early Access timetable, as well as a schedule for updates during Early Access, will be provided shortly after Gamescom.

"After months of internal discussions on which route to take on a couple of features of the final game, we decided to move into Early Access to do the final stretches of the game together with the community", said Heinrich Meyer, Producer of The Guild 3.

Pretty cool news. We got to play it in a month and community will be able to give them some crucial feedback. The Guild 1400 and Guild 2 userbase were rather hardcore people who wanted much more complicated experience, therefore - it might be a very good thing if they will actually listen. Lets hope for the best.

And out now on Early Access:

Why Early Access?
“The Guild is an established brand with a loyal userbase that has been waiting for many years for this sequel. As we're nearing completion and balancing/polishing the game, we want to have feedback from as many fans as possible, to be sure the finished version will meet everyone’s expectations, and that we'll be able to incorporate as many of our fans suggestions as possible, before the official release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We haven’t set a fixed end date as this depends heavily on you, but we assume a duration of at least 4-6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“The only differences will be those made due to feedback from the fans, and of course final fixes. We also plan to add more languages and scenario maps.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Early Access is fully playable but in need of balancing and (performance) optimization. Participants can expect minor and few major bugs, that we will fix during Early Access. At beginning of Early Access, the game will be playable in English and German only - more languages (e.g. French, Spanish and more) will be added by the end of the Early Access period –voice output will follow at release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“Yes, the Early Access version will cost less than the full version, so Early Access players will get a great incentive to join early and shape up the game together with us.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
“We will interact with the community regularly on the steam community page of the game - please note, that all Early Access related threads will be deleted at the end of the Early Access phase.
And we've setup a redmine bugtracker for bugreports. Redmine is free, easy to use and no registration is required: https://redmine.thqnordic.com/projects/the-guild-3-early-access

Additionally to that, we use the following Discord server during the Early Access, where you can give us feedback as well (we will read everything, although this will not be a 24/7support service: https://discord.gg/CGnN2Vb”

EA is a good way of playtesting. Better this than releasing shit, especially given that Guild team is even worse than Creative Assembly in terms of releasing patches.

The team must be really small - how long have they been working on the title? But with their history of buggy releases (are the devs even the same?), EA seams to be the best option.

Not the same devs. Some of the same people have joined on as producers etc.

I wonder why they decided to use Darksiders engine, a proprietary engine made by another different studio, for action games. I'm not surprised reviews and forums are full of complains about bugs and performance.

Very rough early access start, but we'll see how many people will refund and if devs will be able to steadily improve that game and deal with bugs.
