NWN1 graphics have that unique quality where you always seems to be inside a room whether you are in the city, a forest or you know actually somewhere inside. No other game has brought this particular flavor so well.

Is this sarcasm? That's because a forest in a NWN 1/2 engine IS a room, a big room with tree painted walls. Oh how I hated those tiny "outdoors" maps.

NWN was pretty crappy btw. Sure, if you sift through the thousands of user made modules, you might find some decent ones, but who has the time for that? And then, most of them are like 10 hours long anyway. RPG devs should make games, not construction sets.

Yeah it's sarcasm. It looks like shit, it already did look way worse than the IE engine games back in the day and managed to seem even worse throughout the years. Part of this was because of module making limiting things (that and the early-ish 3D hype back in the day leading to a lot of games that look butt ugly in 2017) but anyone thinking this was some "aesthetic choice" is deluding himself. And even for early 00s 3D NWN1 looks pretty bad especially in outdoor environments. I'm not the biggest fan of the term "immersion" but I do know that a city looking and feeling like a small room is pretty much the exact opposite of that.

Speaking of which, Dungeon Siege was released the same year and made MUCH better use of the available technology/horsepower.

NWN just had that "somewhat cute but obv retarded" younger brother look in comparison.

Well the IE games were isometric 2d, the comparison is a bit unfair. I can't think of an isometric 3d rpg that looks better than IE games (especially Icewind Dale) to this day..

Yeah, well, too bad Dungeon Siege had no gameplay worth mentioning - as opposed to NWN.

Why not? If you're going to praise NWN because of user-made content, then you have Lazarus. Miles better than anything to ever come out of Aurora. The only difference is that I don't go around saying how awesome Dungeon Siege is because someone else managed to make an amazing game with the engine and tools that it made available. It IS however a fantastic runtime environment for said amazing game.

Im serious, its both.
It doesnt have good graphics, its optimized like ass in some regards, its OC is about as shit as they come, combat with some classes like pure fighter or paladin is extremely boring and comes down to watching animated die rolls.
Yet its perfect for what it sets out to do, modules take up almost no space, content is easy to mod or create by anyone, which means idea guys (people who are usually useless at creating content but great at coming up with it) could show us some great stories. Some people have done some amazing shit scripting in nwn, combat in multiplayer is amazingly fun, be with in party vs environment or player versus player, theres real depth there, real skill involved. character building is amazingly fun and indepth. The adaptation from pnp to the games environment is flawless, with just small changes so that classes that should be at a disadvantage arent, loading times are super fast, monster variety is insane and they have all sort of cool abilities and it got expanded on by the community, much like everything else.

The ignorance in this thread is rampant because most people here only play one aspect of the game, and dont understand what playing all the modes of nwn bring to the table.
