The Eggplant Wizard in Kid Icarus.

Seriously, fuck that guy.

Zep--

Let me explain...

I was trapped in a basement like room with only a ladder out, and like 1 hit point. So, this fucker, keeps turning me into an eggplant and killing me. You can't escape because as a fuckin' eggplant you have no arms or legs and can't climb the ladder out.

After 3 or 4 hours of this bullshit I finally managed to evade the bastard and got up the ladder before he eggplanted me.

So yeah...fuck that guy.

Zep--

I wouldn't consider NWN2 a great game, but that camera sure as fuck annoyed the shit out of me.

Dungeon Keeper 2 - when you want to summon a lot of dark angels so you build the Unholy Temple, even as big as half of the map, but your dungeon is still considered to be shit and the only monsters that want to visit you are goblins, fireflies and trolls.

Every few years I replay my collection of FPS classics and stuff like Daggerfall. And every goddamn time this shit happens it drives me up the wall.

The pathfinding and instant respawns in the original version of Baldur's Gate.

I think Bioware didn't realized how shitty those narrow corridors would be. I'm willing to forgive that since it was one of their early games though. There's a particularly painful dungeon where enemies respawn while you're exploring it, it was one with spiders I believe.

I remember the Firewine ruins with the respawning Kobold Commandos caused massive butthurt.

Whenever you're playing any decent game and it throws a sliding pieces puzzle at you. This kind

sliding-puzzle.jpg

FUCK SLIDING PUZZLES, FUCK THEM ALL :x:x:x:x

:despair:

I got stuck on the latest Tex Murphy games thanks to one of these. Gave up after a while.

:negative:

Complete opposite for me. I'm absolutely shite at adventure game puzzles. I don't think I've ever played one where I haven't had to grab a walkthrough to figure out I needed to put the apple on the bird-table to attract the goat to allow access to the gate where I take a broken plank of wood to make a bridge over a jumpable stream. But whenever I get a slidey puzzle I just think "awesome, easy peasy auto-win".

One of the ones that fucks me off the most is quest notes that take up an inventory slot.

You know the ones, you're halfway into a crawl, at least it feels like at least halfway, and your backpack is already getting quite full of goodies and it gets to the point where you need to start dropping stuff... and you have to sit and look at half of someone's inventory that's gradually building up a whole collection of 'notes' 'diaries' 'instructions' and various other quest related items that might or might not become useful at some point. And the game doesn't set any general rules in place for this as sometimes you get exp for delivering the info, sometimes events trigger because of them, but sometimes you go the whole game and, fuck it, I carried that fucking note about the evil guy's reinforcements info for the whole fucking game for no fucking reason!!!

I have loads more, but that'll do for now.

Witcher 2. Some objects in the game world, like bottles and glasses look way worse than in Witcher 1. Also, it was annoying that i couldn't interact with game world objects like in Witcher 1. Took some time to figure out what worked and what didn't.

Homeworld mission ends when there's no quick way to gather up all the resources. I never really minded that much because Homeworld is like the world's best screen saver watching those collectors vroom about and suck in space dust, but I can imagine for others it's the stupidest fucking design ever.

Welcome to part 2 of Walking in Gaming. Ever notice how everyone's walk is irritatingly different from yours? When a character asks you to follow them there are only two possible outcomes - either their arthritic walk forces you to stop and wait every few seconds, or they're the power-walking champion of Stanton university class of 98, in which case you'll have to constantly alternate between walking and jogging. Maybe the developers think players would be unnerved by perfect synchronization? Personally I find it relaxing.

Searching for my kidnapped sister
UFO Afterlight.

Okay, some of you guys may not agree with UFOAL being great, but that's for another topic. I myself think it's great.

Anyway, UFOAL. In early stage where you only have one workshop, and therefore one work queue. You can stack item order one after another. You can increase item number at 10 at once, or press the + button and watch it rise.

Then when you build the second workshop. Fuck me now we can no longer press + for that any more. You have to left click on that tiny + button in the UI. FUCK ME! I hate hunting pixel.

Like most, I loved Oblivion when it came out. But man, those oblivion gates. What were they thinking?! Sure, it's pretty sweet being known as the "Hero of Krevice" for the rest of the game, but having an oblivion gate pop up every 30 feet gets to be a chore. Also, think that game had level scaling.

Also, every game I've ever played has that one level/dungeon/quest that is required that I can't. fucking. stand. This usually pulls me out of the game.

In BG2, it's the starting in BG - hate the initial quests, but the game gets better after that. Have to grit my teeth past the illusionist quest, and a lot of shit.
In Arcanum, it's the Black Mountain Clan, but whatever, I just take harm and kite, but that dungeon goes on forever...
In Wizardry 7, it's Munkharama
In GTA:SA it's Stealing from Uncle Sam - where you have to just load boxes onto a truck, but you have to do six and its a slog
M&M VII - what, it's the Dwarven Mound with the XI, V, III type doors. Just brutal. Let me get back to Arcomage, get me out of here.
In Morrowind... eh, I like all the quests in Morrowind. Fuck, that whole Dweomer Puzzle Box or whatever quest that you get right away in the game, that really caught my attention. That was a GREAT quest, as well as just finding Casius there.

Admittedly, I wasted far too much time on Oblivion, but I did recognize it as steep decline right away.

Pump the illusion skill to 50, learn an invisibility spell, and then run through every Oblivion area in a few minutes while recasting invisibility whenever it wears off.

The original Wing Commander. Those escort missions where you fight off half the fighters in the galaxy, successfully deliver the inept NPC capital ship to the jump point, and then it doesn't jump away. It either sits there or turns around and goes back to its last checkpoint.

Inability to wear armor and use swords in PS:T. I realize this was done on purpose, as part of its anti-cliche-ness, so can't knock it too much, but walking around as a decaying hobo with an axe is just so lackluster.

The way spells interrupting spells worked in Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. If they didn't have some sort of a defensive spell shield, you could interrupt a mage casting a level 8 spell with the fast cast Magic Missile or something, so in a mage duel, Magic Missile was more valuable in a lot of cases than uber-high level spells. I thought this was ridiculous. Later D&D games like NWN 1-2 addressed this somewhat by adding a concentration mechanic.

The way combat wouldn't initiate in Arcanum as soon as an enemy turned hostile as in Fallout 1/2. Instead, combat would only start when the enemy was already on top of you or when you manually initiated it. This really screwed over ranged characters, unless you enjoy fast clicking the combat start button. Still waiting on Drog Black Tooth to patch this.

Breadcrumb trail (quest-compass) and question marks for points of interest in Witcher 3.

In Homeworld 2 all the remaining resources are automatically recovered at the end of each mission. But, the game spits you into the next mission without allowing you to do stuff like build a few extra ships.

Any game with long missions that don't trigger properly.
