Completed Resident Evil 7.

Fun. Better than the last two entries in the series at any rate (Resident Evil 6 and Revelations 2). Exploring a creepy mansion estate, save rooms, limited ammo, not fighting hordes of enemies felt very Resident Evil even though the story was self-contained. As a storyfag I do hope they link it to the rest of the franchise in the story DLC/sequel though.

I enjoyed the gameplay, the atmosphere, and the presentation. Very well optimised too (ran near max settings on my GeForce 960 - had to cap it at 30 FPS because my processor is shit, but no lag or framerate drops). Early sections reminded me of Alien Isolation. Alien Isolation is still the better game, but 7 was a decent effort.

Resolution scaling is godsent when you want to run something on older hardware but yeah, game seems to run pretty well. I'm actually impressed how they managed to sort of translate the clunkiness of old tank control-style games into FPS. You don't feel like Rambo mowing down zombies left and right.

I found capping the FPS at 30 meant I could turn on basically whatever I wanted and was able to maintain a stable framerate at 1920x1080, 1.0 scaling.

Of course, it'll be nice playing this in a few years with a new PC and having it run at 60 FPS.

Magic: The Gathering Shandalar

I'm weirded out. It's been ages since I last played. But in Shandalar Mode, it seems like I can only obtain cards that are part of the main editions (Alpha - 4th Edition), plus those astral cards. Legends, Arabian Nights, etc. Cards are part of the deck builder/sealed deck games but don't appear in Shandalar. This is strange, I remember very clearly how I used to rock Shandalar with quadruple Juzam Djinns etc... Is my memory playing tricks on me?

Edit: ok theres definitely some more weird shit going on: Golden cards and slivers in the deck builder that clearly weren't part of the original game + expansions.
Apparently this isn't the vanilla Microprose version but "Magic The Gathering 2010 Edition".
So 2 questions:
-Is there a newer version?
-Is there a version that lets me obtain expansion cards in Shandalar mode?

Anyway, I think it's going to go in the 'should have played it at the time' category, I've done the first real mission as a vampire where you get back the page of Nod, but it just plays too slow and the mouse move only is irritating af.

It does get better when your character has more abilities and weapons.

It seems the latest :

Also found the same (2015) but microprose (?) edition.

Never played it but will give it try as I have few friends that are trying to convince me into card game.

So I bought Crysis on GoG. Got bored after first 3 hours...
would have told you that myself

And I heard Crisis 2 and 3 are even worse...

Well, I missed a lot of popamole games due to shitty rig, so I'm trying to play some of them after buying a new PC - some kind of graphic-fagism related to a new toy. Totally not worth it, I even got bored by Witcher 3. I am thinking about installing Open X-Com and replaying it for the 6th time this year :negative: .

From the other side I had few nice hours with Shogun 2, but Kawaii is not my favourite setting...

Any 1-5 years old games with decent graphics that are not dumbed down piece of shit?
Crysis 2 makes the suit more fun but the game itself is also boring

You can get at least some of the expansion cards in Shandalar mode. Library of Alexandria, Ball Lightning, all the Mishra stuff, etc. The more powerful cards(Lib of Alexandria for instance) are hidden in dungeons though. But I'm not sure if they're all there; I can't recall seeing your Djinn, for instance.

I can see how this game would have blown minds back in the day, but the relative simplicity and the limited presentation after how many years of space games and RPGs leaves something to be desired in the realms of exploration and variety. It does have an addictive quality though. It's cool to check out coordinates given to you and see what's there. I'm playing the Genesis version. Shrines seem to only exist as they are dictated by the campaign, I heard there are a lot more you can stumble upon in the computer versions.

Searching for my kidnapped sister
UFO Extraterrestrials Gold, Grayfiend Unimod.

Pass about ten battle, I think. And confirm a few things about UFO ET I suspected in the past

- The game is not about tactical so much as horror. You never know when some alien monstrosity gonna throw a green gas grenade at your feet and knock you down. Even if you purposeful build up scout unit with AP, it's still no sure tactic to prevent that shit. And I am pretty weak against horror.

- The setting of a strange, unknown alien world make sure that players dont care about setting. No hook at all. No familiar names like Martian locations in UFO Afterlight. No fixed characters. No quest. No events. No even the different regions in the world. The RPG elements are very light. This is a bad thing.

I am by no means sure that I can continue much more. Its weakness are not about gameplay at all, as that aspect is pretty solid. It's purely RPG element, as in the lack of it.

In future, for needs to kill alien monstrosity to save the world, UFO Aftershock and AFterlight is enough.

Complete it!

The last portion is a fucking chore. We complete Research long before and only have to wait for building ship, armors, guns, ammo, grenades, personal shields specifically to bring to Earth campaign. The current battles against alien? Scavenged EEW guns and bought shield are enough.

The really last battle composed of two parts, both single-floor battlefield, which is easier than two-floor or three-floor like in battleship. It mean we dont have to worry about troops on second floor taking pot shot at us. Too easy~

Recommendation level: Only take it if you are bored with all other turnbased tactical gun management, recruit management, inventory management, alien hunting game. It's 6.5/10, with minus one for low gun porn level, low number of maps, low details of countries, and half a point for the worst pacing you ever see.

Beat the saboteur in under 22 hours, about as long as GTA 4 & San Andreas. I liked it, even though it's late parts involved way too much shooting and bullet sponge opponents.

Crysis 2 is way better than 1 or 3, imho. Plot that actually makes sense; gradually fucked up New York; and costume abilities redesigned to make them way less clunky.

Since I have a shiny new PC that needed to be tested on a sufficiently demanding game, I tried the new Prey today. Now I'm fast becoming suspicious of my own kitchen utensils. :negative:

Played through Resident Evil Revelations.

I liked RE 5 a lot and finally decided to try this before continuing adventuring in Buck Rogers: The Matrix Cubed.

RE: Revelations is prequel to RE 5, set between RE 4 and 5. As game I didn't felt this was as good RE 5 but that didn't really surprised me. I knew some of the background, this was originally developed for Nintendo handheld console. Considering those limitations this HD remake for PC was actually surprisingly good.

Using ships and couple of other locations masks quite well compromises developers had to do because obvious limitations Nintendo hardware. No long view distances on these levels, and story and missions design is done according to what could be made playable. On locations like ship recycling textures makes sense, though there are bit variety in areas and level design is pretty clever at times IMO.

Textures are not so high quality as in RE 5, but it didn't really bother me that much. Narrow FOV is something to get used to, though game actually tries to use it to it's advantage and part of the game horror aspect comes from that enemy can spawn behind you in locations you already thought you cleaned. There appears to be a mod to expand FOV but I didn't tried it.

One of the strong points is soundtrack, it's nothing that drowns you and game environment but something that is there on the background. Sometimes you notice it, sometimes you don't but IMO, it's good.

What comes to weak points, I played this using keyboard and mouse and controls are a bit sluggish. I think it's part of the design, but sometimes controls are even unpredictable, making it hard to see if your reload command registered, or if you threw a grenade. I don't think all of this was perhaps intended, but it's what it is.

I also think game overstays it's wellcome a bit. During latter stages I felt I spent way too much time on lower decks of ship, to the point very it became bit tedious.

I got this from Steam sale during their holiday sales. I don't recall how much exactly I paid for this, but it was perhaps € 5 or 7, maybe even less. For that money I can recommend this if you are fan of the series or liked RE 5.

Spent a lot of time on Rimworld, it was a let down in the end. I liked building up from nothing but pretty soon I build everything had a solid base and then there was nothing else to do... I could do little raids on other stuff but there was no point. If I am going to play a game where I build for the sake of it, I would rather play something like Fortresscraft where at least you can explore your creations in first person and it feels better to travel around the world.

I also played Watch Dogs 2 which surprised me because it wasn't as dumb as most driving/shooting games. Although my interest is waning even though it isn't bad.
Try hardcore mod. You'll be lucky to even get past little tribe stage.

Grabbed Omerta: City of Gangsters for free in a GOG sale some years ago and have only just gotten around to it. I'm half a dozen campaign missions in and the verdict thus far is not good. The game doesn't react to my presence at all and completing each level is merely a matter of waiting for the money to roll in. There are a few misconceptions about permanent death (can't find anything in the manual or strategy guide), in that it does in fact exist. Basically once a gangster sustains 3 wounds, they're dead. This will never happen because unavoidable fights are rare, and switching out a wounded gangster for a fresh one is effortless. At no point did I feel pressured to put a badly wounded gangster on the front line.

I am so sick of games that have permanent death and never utilise it. If the developer is going to tease lasting consequences only to undermine themselves because they're too afraid of offending the player, then don't have permanent death.

Legend of Grimrock 2. I'm pleasently suprised. The first game felt boring for me, since I only saw the dungeon, but in 2 I already saw a beach and now I'm in an forest AND there is a good mystery to solve. And maybe it's just me, but the game also plays way more comfortable. Money well spend.

Been playing a little bit of Hard West since it was on sale for 5 bucks or so. Not a bad game at that price. Not quite what it needed to be but it works. Also putting some more hours into Sunless Sea. I have been wanting to try out A House of Many Doors I think it is called, but I gotta wait for those sales. Oh and I tried Life Is Strange out since it was free. Free is good. It's like playing an interactive movie at times which is fine when you are in a funk. Did I mention it is free? With PS+ of course.

Playing Phantasy Star on the sms,and it has aged pretty badly.
This is just after 10 hours and getting all the recruit able characters.
I know older jrpg have problems like ridiculous encounter rate and grind but this game adds it owns set of problems:
-You can't select who to attack and the auto attack loves to leave enemies at small hp levels and then attack the other full hp enemy for no reason.
-The difficulty curve is uneven. Some enemies just one shot you and unless you can successfully run away you are dead.So after reaching a new location you always have to save state after every fight because you never know when you're going to get asshole spider which wipes you.But most normal encounters are a breeze.(yes there is a spell for running away but that is wasting mp)
-For most of the game you are just spamming attack, you don't have a lot of options and most of the magic is supportive.(minus later levels and one dedicated magic character)Not to mention how cheap healing items are so you are better of buying them.
-Dungeons are the old school "you have to read a guide or draw their layout on a piece of paper". Unfortunately there is nothing good about them. The rewards are pathetic(mostly money and plot items coupled with a rare low tier equipment),the encounter rate is too high and it is annoying to wait a second for the texture to load fully when turning around.
-Money grinding is annoying. In the beginning of the game you need to get around 300 gold just to progress which is annoying.(and that is not counting equipment)
-annoying transition scene whenever you want to talk to anybody
To me the game just feels lacking in content.Hell even final fantasy has more variety in everything and you can actually choose who to attack.
I mean i have no problems replaying the original final fantasy and dragon quest games, but this just doesn't feel worth it.
