That is a testament to the merits of Ironman mode. The joy is in the journey. I am 38 days in with my current band now and rolling pretty good so far. When I lose an important bro it is going to hurt.

Early on the RNG can really get you because you are so weak. The firs time you run into certain types of enemies things can get squirrelly quickly until you learn how to deal with them effectively.

If losing it all will really turn you off, keep Ironman with easier difficulty, or keep difficulty high but skip Ironman on the first play-through.

Of the two options, Ironman on lower difficulty will give a better experience IMO.

I completely agree and this wasn't my first playthrough anyway, just my first playthrough in a while - I didn't stop because I got turned off of the game from getting thoroughly ass savaged, I stopped to take stock of my mistakes and let my ass heal before giving it another go.

I remember the first time I tried to help out the local militia against some raiders. I thought it'd be an easy fight. I didn't realize I'd have to cross the worst of a swamp to reach them as they got brutally massacred. A tree trunk ended up saving my life too.

This is the moment the Overseer decided to move up, and Sigurd put a crossbow bolt through his face.

Looks as if 'well suplied' really helps getting some rare items in the stores:

So escort some caravans if you're hunting uniques guys.

Wow...that star distribution on a Hedge Knight. Every time I hire one of these guys their stars are always on HP/Initiative/Resolve.

Yes. And ensuring the settlement has Smelter and Furnace will also improve your odds for uniques. Which is why I recommended seed 16627016. It has 2 citadels and 2 castles as "farming spots". Also, caravans are more likely to "spawn" from bigger cities.

Also fuck militia. I don't care anymore.:x

Militia are gud, dude!

I'm trying again, this time on Veteran. I got 12 guys, no money, no armors, all shit and the quests I get are against bandits with bows who wipe out half my party...

What's a general good starting strategy guys? I suck so bad I don't know what to do to get anywhere in the game, it's always a struggle to not die from hunger or desertion, not even considering I need some new armors.

Checking...wish you had voiced them instead of the stupid subtitles though.

Eyestabber's vids have some good advice and there are lots of tips in this thread that helped me starting out. You said that you have 12 bros and no money. When starting out, it's better to keep a smaller number of bros and keep them alive than to spend money hiring new mercs. Add to your team gradually, and check the status of your injured bros after battles. Dismiss any bros with severe, long term debilitating injuries so you aren't paying a meatbag to take up space on your payroll and eat your provisions.

Try to avoid spending much on armor and weapons early on also, you can get these off of brigands. Avoid caravan protection contracts. Try to focus on contracts where you fight thieves/brigands early on as these will have the most useful drops. Plus, if you are new to the strategies for fighting non-human opponents, you might want to avoid those unless you are prepared to lose some bros while you learn how to handle monster battles. Wolves are vulnerable to spearwall and riposte defenses, for example.

But my pre
what day are you in?im asking because i see you have 120k gold coins.

Around day 550.

I guess I spent about 200k on uniques alone though, money shouldn't be an issue anymore after the first 3 crises.
550??? Wtf man! Start a new game or something! :P

The Wasps need their commander!

I also only had 4 crises the whole time: Nobles, Greenskin, Undead between days 70 and 180(ish), then nothing for almost 300 days, then another Undead crisis. Is that normal?

Anyway, maybeI'll start a new one if / when some DLC comes.

Yup. Although if you allowed the crises to permanently destroy settlements eventually nothing will be left
