My own subjective top 10 (I am more geared toward first/third person than top down)

1) Witcher 3 + expansions
2) Fallout
3) Vampire Bloodlines
4) Deus Ex
5) Fallout 2
6) Fallout: New Vegas
7) Witcher 2
8) Gothic 2 NOTR
9) KOTOR 2
10) Witcher 1

Honorable mentions: Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga, Mass Effect trilogy, Risen, Fallout Resurrection
Plan to play: Anachronox, Arcanum

Lots of questionable titles, mostly from the 21st century. Their definition of RPG seems to be "any single player game or MMO that has numerical character progression", which means at least half of the list could be ditched for better alternatives.
No mainline Shin Megami Tensei games whatsoever, but 3 Persona games made it to the list for some reason.
No Daggerfall.
No Sengoku Rance.
No KOTOR II (first one is).
No Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
Two Pokemon gens. I don't see any reason to list the first gen over anything besides nostalgia since it has so awful mechanics.
Only Fire Emblem listed is FUCKING AWAKENING. Whoever decided that should be burned to death.
And I wouldn't call the first Final Fantasy a good game by any metric.

I agree with most points except Buggerfall needing to be on a "top RPG" list at all. Bugged and monotonous game, but I did enjoy the main storyline and some of the guild quests (until they all started becoming the same). I believe Oblivion and Morrowind deserve to be on the list, however. FFI is a shit game. period. The Persona series is just linear weeb-tier story telling and cringe characters with dumbed-down mainline SMT battle mechanics. Strange Journey is better than any Persona game, Nocturne especially so.

I never understood the Pokemon R/B and G/S meme. Literally every Pokemon game that came out afterwards improved on the mechanics. X/Y is objectively better than all the early Pokemon games because of this, more Pokemon, easier to train your Pokemon, deeper battle system with the addition of abilities, new forms, etc. Less tedious grinding, beginner friendly EV training, more content. The list goes on.

Most of these lists are influenced by nostalgia only.
