Action RPG? Does it even have choosable stats and/or their increases? Feats/talents/abilities/skills?

I wouldn't classify it as an RPG only because it has "levels".

But I would still be fine with it.. if it weren't a goddamn bullet hell shooter in disguise.

Probably not top notch, no but it's good in it's own way a lot of people where expecting a brawler like Bayo or DMC for some stupid reason probably just cause a handful of grunts from Platinum worked on it.
I told them time and time again that it's a Action RPG and not a Character Action Game and they should take a look at Yoko Taros games if they want to know what to expect cause it's his game and not Platinums, they didn't listen and are now bitching cause the game obviously isn't what they where expecting.

The combat system is only half the problem. The other half is the absolutely lacklustre enemy design. When the original Nier has better and more memorable boss fights.. you're in trouble.

Well that's mostly cause of the setting and i personally didn't have a problem with it.

No clue sry i thought you where complaining about enemy's mostly being robots or whatever, english isn't my first language.
No, not that. I was taking about the move sets and patterns of the enemies. I'm fine with how the enemies look like.

Ah ok well i never played the first game only watched the cut-scenes on yt so unfortunately i can't compare them.
I hope they do a remaster or it becomes playable in RPCS3.

It's far from that state:
Nope. Quite contrary it's halfway through, for a six years of evolution it's a very good result compared to PCSX2. Vatniks strike again. "Far from" is unplayable or intro at best.
But with relative success you can spend your time until Nier: RepliCunt goes playble in Elder Scrolls 4, the Codex' main RPG choice.

Shame that Atlus is retarded and is allowing Square Enix to get the jump on them for so many years for pretty much no reason.

Of course they have reason they just don't like the west and everything coming from there including pc gaming.
I mean they did exclusives for WII U and they will do them for the Switch as well instead of making easy money from PC ports just because those are Japaneses platforms that should tell you how hardcore their stance is in this regard.

Square is a large company with most of their steam library being developed by other studios.
Most of Atlus games(especially persona/smt) are published and developed by Atlus.
They have no pc porting experience whatsoever, and most of the games they can port would have to be handled by the core team.
Now why would anybody deal with that?(and especially since they aren't a failing company)
And if anybody says money, well if they were in it for the money they would be pumping out persona and dancing games every year, and they don't.
As for wii-u,like every other console exclusive they got offered money and they accepted.(same as bayonetta 2)
Sony doesn't care about anything that isn't persona and microsoft is a blunder when it comes to securing exclusives.
Edit:I would love persona 5 on pc but people really need to stop with the they can easily port their games on steam, why does atlus hate money bullshit.

Also Atlus doesn't need to make PC games because they are system sellers, something Square hasn't been since Final Fantasy X. Whatever shit machine they release their game on, you can bet your ass that their die hard fans will get that machine for their games.

I enjoyed most bosses for what they offered, both aesthetically aswell as their attack-patterns/different phases. The biggest detriment to the combat for me was the fact that the amount of damage you could put out with decent weapons/chips was just too high. There is no reason to actually utilize both weaponsets to use long combo-attacks when you can just wail on them with a combination of light-heavy attacks and be done with a boss in 30seconds. The more customization you offer the player, the harder things get for people who are dogshit at video games, and the easier things get for people that know what they're doing. This is one of those games that could've actually needed some level-scaling on bosses/trash, instead of capping most of it at level 60 (which is really easy to get without any grinding if you just do all side-missions) where you kill all of them in a matter of seconds.

You're not even gonna be able to see half of that combo unless you use Debug Mode thanks to how little health enemies have, which in my opinion is a very sad thing. The combat is actually somewhat interesting (not Bayo2/DMC interesting but good enough for an aRPG) if you utiize all 4 different weapontypes and 3 pods, but there's no incentive to do so.

Imo one of the largest sins is that a lot of the most interesting enemy types (such as emp bots) show up very very infrequently, meanwhile the generic big/small dudes (occasionally with shields) are everywhere with minor model changes.

toco toco is a program where Japanese artists and creators introduce places in Japan that inspire them. Every episode showcases a different guest, from all creative fields.

No scripted text or guidance, guests speak naturally and are free to choose any place they like. “toco toco” is the onomatopoeia to describe the sound of footsteps in Japanese, for the walks we go on together with our guests.

TODAY'S GUEST
Yoko Taro, Game Creator

PLACES WE WENT TO
PlatinumGames Offices
THE SILVER BALL PLANET, Osaka, Shinsaibashi Area
Yoko’s Apartment
Taimeshi Ginya, Osaka, Dotombori Area

In this episode, we spend the day in Osaka with Yoko Taro, director of the famous Drakengard and NieR series. Our first stop will be at PlatinumGames, the studio that was in charge of developing Yoko’s most recent title: NieR: Automata. During development, Yoko Taro lived between Tokyo and Osaka, often meeting in Tokyo with Square Enix’s producer Yosuke Saito, who first suggested the game to be developed by PlatinumGames.

Yoko will introduce us to his rather peculiar work style, before taking us to Shinsaibashi at THE SILVER BALL PLANET, an arcade specialized in vintage pinball machines. He will share with us his fascination for pinball and the little universes contained within each machine. We will then continue our conversation at his apartment where he will tell us more about his philosophy and his work.

After dusk, we will head with Yoko to Osaka’s dynamic Dotombori area for drinks with the producer Yosuke Saito and Takahisa Taura, who worked as a game designer and had a key role on NieR: Automata according to Yoko; the three of them will recall fun stories from the development of the game.

Didn't have powerful PC nor PS4 so watched walkthrough and storywise... it's mixed bag.

I can understand that for people who haven't played any previous Taro games this may look fresh and shit but... It's pretty predictible and lack wtf moments this franchise is famous of.

There are moments that are CREEPY as fuck like machine lifeforms trying to recreate human behaviour or Devola/Popola text-based minichapter but overall it felt like directed for broader, moar casual audience.

Dunno, maybe gameplay is top notch but plot is weakest except fucking disgrace of Drakengard 2. Don't get me wrong, I liked it a lot but propably had too high expectations.

i look forward to your reviews of old movies where, since you don't own a projector, you review the images on the reel

After Scalebound I think Kamiya-kun is going to be pretty busy doing a whole lot of bowing and not just to Taro-sama.

 Got Ending A and the fucking save didn't work. Gonna have to play through that whole drawn out boss battle again fuuuuu

Alright, salvaged and restarted as 9S. What a great fucking game. In my opinion it's an all around improvement over the original.

Surprisingly the game is growing on me. The combat is only moderately exciting, but the whole equipment hunt aspect and character chip customization is pretty fun. Not to mention the OP triple charged Pod Programs. The average fight is pretty/very easy on normal once you've geared up, but surprisingly even then the game throws some optional side quest challenge here and there, such as a level 50 huge robot in one quest, or some nearly immortal golden robots which suddenly spawned in the ruins.

The main disadvantage is definitely all the fort-and-back running you're doing if you're interested in side quests. And you probably should, unless you want to end up underleveled. I didn't have such strong delivery boy vibes since The Witcher 1 Chapter 2. Actually I think this is even worse, since it's most of the game time. Once you get the possibility to warp between bonfires snack machines things get slightly better, but only a little bit.
The second thing is that, while there thankfully aren't that many bullet hell sections as I've feared and shockwave chips and reach weapons with sick huge phantom hitboxes (spears!) make handling of ranged enemies much less of a pain, my hands still ache from the last carrier defense game section.

this line was way more relevant than I thought it would be.

route C spoilers:
**** = kill

also I just finished end [E]. Thank you Yoko for not making every end horribly depressing.

I love these characters and this setting so much. This is the most memorable story game I've played in 8 years. I can't get over how good this game is.

also: the hardest boss in the game is SQUARE ENIX LTD. I feel like I died more to those words than most of the bosses on hard mode.
