Congratulations to the devs.

Is the game DRM-free on Steam (as in, can it be run without Steam client running), or should I wait for GOG release?

Can somebody who has bought the game please answer MicoSelva's question by shutting down Steam and trying to run the game's EXE outside of it?

So uhm.. Spears are the way to go, eh? Spear+shield. I tried 1hander guys with that 25 % dmg perk, but they just get fucked up so fast.

I like mace guys, because they can stun and wreck shit, also the axes for destroying shields.

I did stupid thing - decided to participate in civil war 1 vs 2. Nobles cornered me in the swamp. Managed to win first battle, but there is 2 more to come and i lost 2 of my men and 3 others were wounded, so they are useless for now.:deadtroll:

But i have magic button.:happytrollboy:

Spears are only useful as secondary weapons, and very early on. Spearwalls are incredibly useful if you have an enemy that's rushing your lines, and your guys are somewhat competent at melee; they'll just throw themselves against it and die.

But, most of the time the enemy doesn't do that, and if you rely on spears you're stuck with anaemic damage and poor armour penetration.

I've given my frontline Quick Pockets (or whatever it's called) and given everyone a spear as a secondary weapon. That means that if the situation calls for a spearwall I can make one, but normally I use something else.

FWIW I'm specialising half my melee bros in axes, the other half in swords, not counting the Fahnenträger who's specced in polearms. Both swords and axes come in one- and two-handed versions at all tiers, axes are incredibly useful at splitting shields and are good against armour, plus there's a polearm variant, whereas swords are great both at defence (arming swords) and damage (two-handers). Also I just lifted another Zweihänder from a bandit leader.

Spears are nice... In the early to mid game. Later enemies have so much armor that you need something with more "oomph"

Aight, I will try speccing into axe and sword perks then for the future. I also like those big polearms or cleavers, they pack a punch.

Is there any way to skip the opening battle when starting?

How exactly do spears works vs orc charge? Sometimes it repels them, but it's much lower % than just a hit on them, what's the catch?

No way to skip. It's pretty simple to do. Crossbow guy shoot highest to hit chance. 2Hander wait. Shield guy walk close and wait. 2H guy swing. Shield guy swing. Round 2. Finish it.

Spearwall has chance to hit - that's all. 'Spearwall' does not get the same accuracy boost as 'Thrust' that is why you miss way more. Also, relying on spear against Orc is not wise. Their damage is pathetic.

To take on orc you need a good armor on your front line, at least 120-150ish to absorb hits. Some orcs double-grip their weapon - they really hurt. Padded Leather won't cut it. If your team lack good armor and offense to quickly kill the greenskins, forget it. Orcs are out of your league. Hell, even Goblins will pose problems with their ambushers unless you spam nets and kite shields.

Bully the brigands until your front line is decked with 150 Armor and their melee skills are good enough to wield higher tier weapons.

The catch is that orcs hit like a freight train.

A spearwall does work against them but only as a partial defence. I've had good results with my quick-pockets frontline: start with a spearwall, then switch to the main weapon and clobber the ones that got through. The second round will be much easier than normal because I'll usually only have some orcs toe-to-toe plus a few more will be wounded. It's by no means a win button but it does help. Unless the bastards just decide to outflank, that is.

But without quick pockets I wouldn't bother, losing an attack with the main weapon to switching isn't worth it.

It asks you to log into steam if you do it that way. Just checked.

Getting this out the way. I bought the game on release day and I'm loving it so far. But there are some things that I would like to suggest to any Overhype Studios member (that still dwells in the Codex):

I once camped out in a city and was attacked brigands. That's why there should be an option to sleep in the towns Inn. It would have the same effect as camping but since it was in the city you would not be attacked but had to pay a day's stay.
Also the option to disable autosaves and rebind keys.

Something I would like to ask is if buildings, bridges, moats and other human structures (or even other natural terrain such as rivers, cliffs, etc) are going to be implemented in future updates.

Keep up the good work and best of sucess with this amazing game experience.

I'd just shield wall and net when they get to melee. Let's doublegrip clobber those fags. We all race to kill each on round 2.

Yeah orc battles are mostly won by your backline's accuracy to deliver quick kills to impose a negative resolve check.
Also, prioritize the double-gripping orcs. The shieldbearing orcs are doing you a favor by discounting their damage by 25%!

Also, future tip: Clicking the little white flag at the upper right will let you abandon the fight with all currently alive bros taking a (non-fatal, temporary) injury. If it looks like things are about to take a turn for the terrible, you can cut your losses this way. It's not cheap to recover from, but it's generally better than losing bros you've invested in. Using it lets you avoid TPKs and indeed losing more than a few bros in a single fight.

I've noticed that every time I did that, I would get permanent injuries so it was usually easier to do just a full scale retreat if you weren't stuck in a forest...

Well I guess I got really unlucky then - thrust has 90% to hit, my spearwall guy got stunned 5 times in a row , 0.00032 chance of that if you're right, I'm still sceptical.

I killed a bunch of orcs already, but I still have no idea what their abilities do.

How does berserker rage work? I noticed they passively retaliate if they're raged. How much of a dmg bonus is it? I got a brother one shot when I first encountered them, afterwards I've been killing them before they can but I'd like to know the details.

Goblins in forest are the worst battle for me so far, it's stupidly random, if they get choke points generated it's horrible. Only have pathfinder on my ranged dudes so you can imagine the pain.

Best tactic I found is to position at a proper distance so they only get stunned and not attacked, wait for them to charge. With a 6-6 (spearwall at both outer tips, they funnel inside) setup mow down their front line with your backline, then repeat. The orcs tend to do nothing if your front row is filled.

I don't think weapon switching is really worth it, over two rounds it's 4 to 3 attacks with a spear compared to the swapped weapon, doubt it beats it if it's same quality, vs low armor orcs.

And don't think about shooting berserkers at a distance unless you are 100% sure they'll die that turn.

Did anyone make a successful use of daggers? I have a guy with good stats but he's less useful than I hoped. Useless vs shields, sometimes he nukes a double-gripper in one turn but it's rare. Fatigue cost is insane too.

You can shoot berserkers and even if you do not kill them it will lower their morale(Less accuracy) and weaken them.

Daggers are kind of tricky. You need good stats and talents and traits to build good knifemaster but if you have guy like that its better to use him as 2hand heavy trooper.
I shank my first warlord in last beta update with daggerman but he isn't really useful in normal combat(I mean he is because he has great stats but he would be better if he specialized in something else - like axes).
Daggerman shank guys who your guys surround(+hit chance) and either kill them or panic them, some injuries also help a lot. Good versus living but weak vs undead. You can use overwhelm with normal attacks to debuff enemy but for that you need build him light. You can also support them with long axe shield strippers from back-line.
Mixed feeling - can be great but in limited situations. Also you can afford to mass field them.
Could be strong mixed with hammers or 2hand axes(as they strip armor fast) and fearsome guys but then you have undead who will laugh at you.
You need rather specialized company setups to make it effective. And there are undead.

Spears are either early weapon(accuracy bonus) for low level low quality soldiers or area denial weapon for specialized guys with high melee skills. Then they can make wonders against newghouls(they become serious pain late), orc youngs or direwolves, zombies and raiders.
You want to keep some. High skill = high chance to repel enemy.
Swords are early/mid weapon as they have solid damage, acc bonus and are easy to use. Sadly not effective against armor - still late you should find some rare with bonus vs armor or damage. 2handed swords are great because of multistrikes - Split and Swing are awesome and split is great to kill enemy backliners.
Maces are support weapon - stun and they tire enemy much faster. Other than that rather average.
Flails are good against specific enemies but lack consistency, still early they are great. Also headshots and armor farming.
Hammers are great as can opener. Also they are solid as a rout weapon with fearsome if used en masse. 2 hand version is really great as it stagger enemy and it let your overwhelm guys work even if low initiative.
Axes are great overall weapons. Good dmg, utility, effecitve vs armor and in any variants you want. And they have bonus dmg to crits. Normal crit(headshoot) have 150% but axes have 200%. Making steel brow neccesary for melee against orcs. Most versalite weapons.
Daggers are situational. You want them on all your melee guys for armor farming. You can use them on your ranged guys in the case if enemy break your line(so he is alone and surrounded) so easy to hit. Baiting orcs can be fun with high armor low defense daggerman - so they push to him and bam dead or routed.

Against orcs young charges.
You can get orc trophy from ambition that make wearer resist stun from orc charges.
Also the last tier tank perk grant resist from stuns and pushing by 2 turns on use.

You can't stun the big orcs with a shitload of armor who are the really dangerous ones, only the young orcs.

Can you stun orcs with mace? That would be quite usefull -to stun them before they will try to stun you, or at least prevent them from restunning my men again, after the initial stun bash.
yes you can.. sadly you can even stun undead
How is that sad. It's legit tactic against legioners with pikes!

I think he is sad that this does not really make sense. Because how the hell do you stun a dude that is already dead? But then again, this prompts the question about how the undeads really function, which is another can of worms.
