Saga continues:

vZYenj6.png

Just look at this frickin lau kau! His army isn't even that large, but his reputation is through the roof.

Everyone loves him, the hatamoto most of all. This won't stand.

SsY6GcX.png

Sutibu's honour, by contrast, needs urgent improvement. But how to earn honour without risking dying in the process...

"Don't be such little kiasi, son! You samurai, dying is part of your job!"

"Damn it mom! I'm trying to think!"

9rkyYES.png

Hmmm... Jibusaemon under attack. That's the loser who only has four measly ashigaru.

Since the invasion has clearly been scaled to his level, this should be easy!

UQZGO8R.png

Sutibu gathers his party before venturing forth!

oJDFMJe.png

"Damn it, this upstart is thinking the same thing! Chop Chop!"

0XBTZzn.png

*huff puff* Made it!

iuOiPQD.png

"Aiyah! Not now mom, I'm fighting a war here!"

VN9Zi6c.png

While camping over at Jibusaemon's estate, word arrives of a real opportunity for loot and glory.

A small invasion force should be doable, even for this rag-tag group. It will make a good next stop for the army!

rJ7S2Zn.png

Ww0jkvc.png

"WAH LAN! You shithead!"

8f9vN0g.png

Sutibu, meanwhile, leads his men into his very first battle.

RtslNNh.png

Truly a fearsome enemy!

Suffice it to say, Sutibu's men make short work of these fools.

EQylTi8.png

All three of them, to be precise. :M

6avh8OO.png

A win is a win, however, and in recognition of protecting the clan, Sutibu's honour has improved!

However...

lJC6Qli.png

Gqr1cia.png

:negative:

Sutibu takes one step, this cibai takes ten. There is no way to beat this guy fair and square. At this rate, Ujinoro is going to make hatamoto and become Sutibu's new boss. Years of taking orders from him, having to laugh at his jokes and guard his saké bottle... Unthinkable!

It's time to man up.

Payback time!

Zqmr4rF.png

Remember our good friend Jibusaemon?

Yeah, he's dead.

3AjsgA2.png

The new kid on the block.

The turnover rate for top retainers is really something else.

yjEvDUF.png

Our hero, meanwhile, has had enough. With a cunning plan and clever disguise, he sets out to deal with his rival.

z7O8NaF.png

Ujinoro, that rotten churl, is still out with his troops stealing the land and glory that rightfully belongs to our man.

Well, Sutibu has many tricks up his sleeve. Ujinoro won't be smug for long.

ANT8x6p.png

Unsheathing his majestic katana for the very first time, Sutibu pauses to consider his options.

Taking a hostage from the family could be a useful bargaining chip, one that could be ransomed for land or other favours.

That said, Ujinoro's biggest asset right now is his unblemished reputation. Time to take him down a notch or two!

CyYc99l.png

Without the snazzy heirloom sword, Ujinoro will be completely disgraced. A mighty blow!

Reviewing the teachings of Suntzumon, Sutibu calms himself for the task at hand:

Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.

― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

l33vDeB.jpg

:baka:

hj01GnX.png

So much for subtle! What seemed like simple thievan in the night turns nasty pretty quick. The alarm is triggered and a frenzied fight ensues. Sweaty palms gripping bow and katana, steel and arrow hitting ass and leg! The sword is retrieved, but the escape path is blocked. Detour. Feint! One after another the grunts go down, but more keep coming.

Then it hits. Sharp pain! Sneaky arrow, not good. But the sword, the sword is his.

Limping to the exit, Sutibu grins triumphantly.

e1H5gnj.png

"Sia suay, shithead!"

jp1cVJw.png

Honour decreased by half, not too shabby. Still, that was very risky business, another arrow or a musket shot and it would've been over. At least the playing field has been evened a bit, even though he's still the hatamoto's favourite.

MMkIuqy.png

ge48RCG.png

QO1ZTHX.png

GCx4CHr.png

And yet, this guy just doesn't quit. Not a bad man to have under you, but right now he's in the way and he's making good honest samurai like Sutibu-san look bad in the process. Absolutely disgusting!

Even worse:

Showdown!

CxsBdZm.png

Ujinoro's going down! When he isn't busily raising taxes or recruiting, Sutibu levels up his katana-swinging skillz for the inevitable showdown.

Little does our hero know that an evil plot is forming...

5TbOTTl.png

Hiroteru is just another chump with a one-man army. However, he does have a great reputation, and his daughter has just come of age. Wasting no time, Sutibu-san's mother rallies the family and goes for the killing blow! In one swift stroke, both the lack of heirs and honour will be remedied.

RwfvyOF.png

"Son, we have decided, lah. You go marry Ari! Get heirs, gain face. This great lobang."

"Damn it old man, I don't want no wife! I'm happy as-"

"Shut! She real chio bu! You'd be so lucky! Forget your drawings. You give your mother REAL grandchild lah!"

"But fath-"

"PAI KIA! YOU SAY YES LAH!"

"...Y-yes lah."

KLsTCx4.png

All good things must come to an end one day.

:rage:

HfMkt2x.png

And so it ended. Sutibu's mother had at last achieved the dream which she had held dear for so long.

Sjm0gr9.png

O1hzFZY.png

Wife, child and two points of honour. Not a bad deal, didn't even have to pay a bride price like with those matchmaking girls. Having a daughter was disappointing, of course. Without a son there is nothing to fall back on if our man dies. Still, the waifu is fresh and fertile. Sutibu will do his duty. More offspring will come.

GUJkGHz.png

Anyway, it cannot be helped. Son or no son, this cibai has been cruising for a brusing for quite some time now. Time to end it.

Fg3CDMB.png

No need to sneak this time. Sutibu marches right through the front gate, his purpose clear.

tNzIrUU.png

cFnnCoN.png

Bring it cibai!

l5PkFjk.png

Ouch! Ujinoro strikes first, injuring Sutibu and forcing him back. However, this is part of the plan.

bEQv4d4.png

Using the secret technique of his ancestors, Sutibu begins to furiously spam nothing but left-slash attacks! The stunned opponent is forced back, and as he tries to evade the torrent of blows, Sutibu pursues and strikes blood twice before backing off!

rxSnEX6.png

Bo Lum Pa faggot! Sneaky Sutibu, anticipating Ujinoro's final desperate power attack, delivers a well-timed upper-left cut!

The smug bastard falls to the ground, defeated in his own dojo. Good fucking riddance.

With Ujinoro removed, Sutibu-san is finally first in line to replace Lord Genbei!

That womyn has given a child suspiciously quickly, and Hiroteru was suspiciously eager to get rid of her.

Hmmmm....

7uUa3PN.png

For the first time in his life, Sutibu is the clear favourite of Lord Genbei.

yrY4GWI.png

Unfortunately, that little bastard Yoichi is still a serious contender. He has managed to retain much of his father's estate, and with some bold deeds and a little recruitment he might just outshine Sutibu and snatch the ultimate honour.

WaOAQaW.png

Nice initiative there Tadahiro, but you're supposed to take HIS land, not give him yours. Bakayaro!!

tQyBZEW.png

Things are escalating quickly! The dastardly Date clan is well known for its dishonourable tactics. After all, they are the same bastards who killed off the manly samurai Kalin and his wife's son in cold blood. And now, ninjas in the night! Poor Lord Genbei won't be long for this world.

pCImRlB.png

No more time to waste! Must tie up loose end before old man dies. Sutibu grabs his masterwork katana, folded hundred thousand times or so the legend says, and marches straight over to Yoichi's estate.

With all the tactful elegance of a gentleman samurai, Sutibu tells Yoichi that his old man Ujinoro was a faggot whose ancestors shoveled dung for fun. If he takes the bait, he will be struck down. If he doesn't, he will be thoroughly dishonoured. Either way he won't be able to compete for the promotion.

qlmGx5z.png

Like father, like son. A duel it is!

ZIN8ghu.png

Sutibu takes a hit, but the Yoichi kid is no match for mighty Sutibu-san!

PnXRDok.png

A couple of powerful blows and it is finished. Yoichi falls, blood and intestines soiling the ground. His retainers look on in shock, and Sutibu is not without empathy - cleaning the dojo each time must be some serious slog.

5gXGHGg.png

The remaining little runt of the household is too young to rule, and this schmuck is pretty much useless.

Threat neutralized. Mission accomplished.

vwDu4Mm.png

Of course, success attracts jealousy, and it is only a matter of time before that weasel Tadahiro reveals his ugly nature. Sutibu shakes his head in disappointment. If Tadahiro had even an ounce of honour in his body he would improve his station by performing bold deeds like a true samurai. Absolutely dishonourable!

Sutibu bunkers up in his estate, preparing himself for possible incursions from this rotten knave.

Never negotiate with terrorists.

WAUJFxJ.png

Luckily, the ninjas sent by the Date clan strike first! With Lord Genbei removed, the promotion is all but ensured!

IfMVjZm.png

Took a whole lot of tryin, just to get up that hill. But now we up in da big leagues...

First order of business: demote Tadahiro and assign him to perpetual latrine duty.

8REYAgU.png

Alright, time to check out the new competition!

Date killed Kalin and his son and sent ninjas to our lord. They have no honour.

It was close.
Outsmarting his rivals, Kalin the Rat has finally gained enough influence and honor to be the top candidate to succeed the daimyo.

10.png

Many hopes rests with him to support the current daimyo until the time of his death - but anyone who knows that this particular rat's quick rise through the ranks are surrounded with numerous tales of suspicious deaths and tragedy.

02.png

Many begin to suspect the unthinkable, that the favored Hatamoto would resort to slaying the Most Honorable Lord Date.

03.png

04.png

05.png

Many of the daimyo's personal guards fell that night as a mysterious assassin sought the death of Lord Date.
The guards finally killed the cornered assailant in one of the castle's many rooms.

08.png

It was then the treachery was exposed. For it was Kalin the Rat himself who sought the daimyo's death.
Lord Date was furious and had him executed on the spot. Immediately, he ordered his army to march towards Kalin's estate to seize all the lands and forced the traitor's entire family to commit seppuku.

09.png

It was a terrible day for Date Clan.

A fine attempt. :salute:

Killing the daimyo is never easy, three levels full of guards is a pain to cut through.

Pity about muh legacy though... :(

These dudes seem to have considerably greater honour than the ones in Kalin's Date.

They're pretty strong, that's for sure. Not sure about the honour, but for land and soldiers I think the game considers the strength of all the retainers when you become hatamoto (makes sense, since you command the whole lot). So if you killed off the most capable guys and had them replaced with shitty one-man army guys to secure the promotion, it will sort of bite you in the ass when you ascend. This would explain why both RK and I ended up with shitty fiefs. Still, it's nothing some judaya tactics can't remedy.

Bloodbath!

RRFQ7Cc.png

v7Qlln4.png

Faced with the uncomfortable fact that he is now the chump hatamoto, Lord Sutibu gets to work doing what he does best - squeezing those lazy peasants for more koku and hiring ashigaru thugs. It will take quite some work amassing land, honour and a thousand loyal men, but it will be done.

3FAQdCH.png

The mundane cycle is interrupted by news of an uppity challenger. Seeing how Sutibu has fared quite well in his duels, this might be a good opportunity to gain some respect in the clan. It's always a bit risky to fight, but it's certainly better to duel one swordsman than to face throngs of ronin.

NmLj7fI.png

"Wah Piang, I'll teach this shithead to La Sai on my watch!"

Bursting with confidence, Sutibu makes haste towards Lord Mogami's castle.

7yarJgv.png

"Uh, w-would totally kill them but... I'm on clan business. Boh eng, lah!""

Our hero wisely avoids the ruffians, sneaking past them while they bully some commoners.

t0GcEfl.png

Sutibu arrives unharmed at the castle, ready to face this uppity churl and boost his reputation.

Unfortunately, a runner arrives just before the duel can start...

TZMVTod.png

Those damn Date thugs again. Didun even do nuthin to deserve this!

AoYFQha.png

As Sutibu scrambles to defend his fief this bloated bastard shows off. 165 samurai in one single batch, that's like our entire army.

You would think he'd lend a hand to a clan brother in need, but oh no. Dishonourable scum!

FittErT.png

All is not bad, however! Finally, Sutibu has a son and successor.

Naturally, our hero names him...

9G4iLCd.png

AXedff1.png

Little Turizasu turns out to be a curiously savage child, and he looks nothing like his father.

oufzbsN.png

No matter! There are more important things to focus on, like the damn enemy at the gates.

They will pay dearly for their impudence!

iP2CeDp.png

W-what the... They're too many....

Your mom won't let you:

OMAtoAc.png

"Disappointment, eh? Like I haven't heard that before!"

Here are the current standings:

lKzQtaP.png

TTYqyRC.png

U84zOdj.png

Ymp2bWS.png

Chizaemon is ridiculously overpowered, his fief is pretty much what Sutibu's should be like. Anteki is basically on the same level Sadaie, who is the son of Ichian, former third-in-line dude. He got cut down by that challenger while those Date bastards busily pillaged our fief. Funny thing, both Anteki and Sadaie are old men, so Ichian must have been a frickin grandpa samurai.

Biggest obstacle right now is the lack of honour. Sutibu can't even recruit more men because the peasants think he is worse than dishonourable scum. It's a pity all rivals are married, otherwise it might be possible to marry off those daughters. Yeah, plural - somehow, Sutibu got another one named Tomoe.

vvTg71H.png

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to have some friends right now. Our manly man prepares himself for some serious team-building, bro-docking man-bonding of the utmost level. Yes, you guessed right...

GD29Rbz.png

5wKBW3W.png

A tea ceremony! Who knows, maybe this could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship...

0cFbci3.png

:prosper:

KRgZHc7.png

fpOieBn.png

19ZgMxU.png

"Another kaypoh bites the dust. Hah! Shoulda stay home, leh."

H3xImoI.png

Seeing how Chizaemon didn't want to play nice, there is truly only one way to resolve the matter.

"Duel and die, cibai!"

OoC7QGc.png

"Si Mi Lan Jiao, shithead! You ain't nothin but a turd-hauling ah qua!"

JS7mIg7.png

Intimidated by the prowess of mighty Sutibu-san, Chizaemon goes full Crispy. This move may have preserved his life, but the cost was steep indeed. Three points of honour down the drain, and there's more where that came from.

2d0C8DE.png

A large garrison, eh? Yeah, no.

WL1ZDdm.png

The supreme samurai drills his men, determined to prevent another disastrous loss. His efforts eventually pay off.

*Sutibu's generalship improved by 1*

qN4Ti1J.png

After plenty of thumb-twiddling, it becomes clear that the only opportunity for honour harvesting can be found in random encounters. Wasting no time, Sutibu ventures forth looking for a challenge.

8e307yW.png

And fate does not disappoint! Dualling triplets, this should be good.

Ku5SNvp.png

YLS0v18.png

The first bro strikes quickly, slashing Sutibu before he can back off.

Within moments, however, order is restored.

XX8lUpZ.png

Three rapid hits, followed by a retreat. Classic sneaky Sutibu tactic.

The fool will inevitably pursue, and when he closes in...

IoG2Mzi.png

The strike of death! Or, well, it would have been death, had this not been a sparring match.

One bro down, two more to go.

jc239zW.png

lwfPfFO.png

The second bro is tougher and manages to score a couple of more hits, but in the end, he too falls to the superior skill of Lord Sutibu's frantic katana swinging. One more, and then it's over!

DCVaR8n.png

4LXUeTT.png

In this fight, Sutibu goes on the offensive. Note how the health bar has regenerated a bit. That is kind of cheap, but it doesn't much matter as this cibai doesn't even land a single hit.

XyADDT9.png

Power attack strikes flesh and bone! The third bro is down, and the challenge has been completed. Such a mighty feat must assuredly sway the heart of the Daimyo and bring Sutibu back into his good graces.

Truly, we live in evil times.

After contemplating the teachings of Suntzumon, carefully considering his options and getting viciously bullied by his parents, Sutibu snaps out of his despair and continues his quest for glory. Sooner or later, an opportunity will present itself, and when it does he must be ready to seize it!

The peasants may have been bled dry and the ashigaru might despise him, but there are still important tasks to accomplish.

YdaPEjy.png

Honing one's skills...

Ar8WzqZ.png

Drilling the few troops that remain...

R4L6xuA.png

And of course, humiliating Chizaemon, who is now the laughing stock of the entire clan!

ZSIZNck.png

And thus, after months of productive work, an opportunity has come at last. A few shabby bandits should be an easy match for the combined forces of two hatamoto!

Gathering his men, Sutibu quickly marches for Sadaie's fief, eager to win some recognition.

0OMkmGG.png

dmkOaeo.png

At the same time, additional bold deeds become available at the castle. Fighting the sohei might be too risky, but the cornered assassin should make a fine target for Sutibu's katana.

BmdLyw5.png

VRLr8Mt.png

The enemy is nothing but a bunch of ruffians, and they're outnumbered as well. Naturally, Sutibu orders his men to attack.

DKwl8x6.png

The cavalry quickly runs down the right formation, routing the poor wretches. At the same time, the main infantry unit clashes with the bandits and enter a bloody melee.

7GMQNnt.png

Both sides lose plenty of men, but the bandits naturally have to give. As they turn to flee, the cavalry comes back from mop-up duty and now blocks their path.

Glorious carnage follows, and of the right kind for a change.

XNJrTqd.png

Severed head surveying. Truly a distinguished moment of male bonding.

u95KfXo.png

Takeaki manages to drive off the warrior monks and is rewarded for his effort.

His triumph, however, is short-lived...

N69mqUF.png

And so is he! Seeing how Sadaie remained at his estate at the time of the murder, the culprit has to be Chizaemon. Didn't think that old cuck had it in him! He must be getting desperate now, as his ruined reputation has allowed his rivals to threaten his position as the Daimyo's favourite.

h0DQ4NH.png

gPkqPE9.png

Sutibu enters Lord Mogami's castle and loudly proclaims his intention to defend the clan's honour, hopeful that the severed head of the cornered Date assassin will help boost his quite atrocious reputation.

aavpk5m.png

UzBmkg2.png

Unlike other duelists, this one is surprisingly aggressive. Both fighters trade blows, injuring each other.

bHwyYF5.png

Nevertheless, he is no match for Sutibu's katana magic! A sideway slash injures the killer further, forcing him to stumble back. Desperate, the assassin launches a powerful charge attack, but Sutibu has seen it all before.

gWgpVRm.png

WqHofxp.png

Using the secret technique of strafing, our hero confuses the enemy by dashing to the right, only to suddenly stop and brace for the incoming attack. With perfect timing, Sutibu delivers an upper leftward power attack, cutting right through the stunned opponent!

Recked. GG.

"Will need new kimono, lah!"

ZHwQ0YD.png

"Very little honor" sure beats "no honor" - now there's something to work with, at least.

On his way home, Sutibu encounters yet another challenger, eager to test his secret fighting technique.

BMwBQOa.png

Ve8Msl6.png

"Who's superior now, cibai!"

iDAEtzL.png

Thanks to his victory over the bandit trash and the outcome of the duels, Sutibu can now finally recruit more men to his cause. For several seasons he does little else, growing his fighting force well past its original strength.

Eventually, Chizaemon strikes again, but this time he isn't quite as lucky!

Short update cuz I'm getting drunk:

8GxPEEB.png

After the fall of old cuck Chizaemon, Toyoaki has become Lord Mogami's new favourite. Aside from his frickin awesome sideburns, we don't really know that much about the dude. Time to review:

IlBUvMB.png

He only has some eight hundred troops, but his honour is unmatched and it helps him hold on to the top position. He is aggressive too, so he will likely take some risks trying to improve his station even further. If it comes to it, Sutibu might have to duel this old cracker.

EebbNl1.png

Sadaie is now the second most powerful hatamoto. He has grown a sizeable army, way bigger than sideburn's actually, but he seems to suck at commanding it. Worth noting is that the expedition to help him purge those bandits paid off big-time. For the first time, Sutibu has made an actual friend.

mUrjVp9.png

As for this ugly chump, he is just pathetic. Crap honour, crap skills. Still, the chau cibai retained a lot of soldiers from his old man, and he obviously carries a grudge. Might have to deal with him, time will tell.

q91D4jm.png

Last and least (but not for long) is our magnificent hero Sutibu-san. Still in his prime, he actually has some decent skills now. The only thing that is lacking is raw manpower.

Recruitment will be the name of the game for many seasons to come.

dhE5WH8.png

"Hahaha! Chiah siau shithead! You on your own, leh."

YEuQqUz.png

While cucked Rihei struggles with the Date scum, Toyoaki dominates and grabs a big slice of land. This guy is serious trouble.

9066mWx.png

Since Sutibu has redeemed himself and is now a man of.. Well, some honour, plenty of upstanding gentlemen flock to join his forces. Well step right up!

As the army grows, Rihei runs into trouble:

xPv5HSC.png

5IofIOi.png

t0carN5.png

:lol::salute:

What a cuck! Justice sure is sweet, nearly half of Rihei's army has been wiped out or dismissed from service.

At this rate, Sutibu will be number three in no time.

93daIBk.png

In fact, Sutibu actually has more land than Rihei. He continues recruiting ashigaru brutes until the ranks are full, and then reminds the peasants of their obligation to support their lord.

sTkH74u.png

"Pay up scrubs, gimme dat koku!"

More land, more men. Life is good!

Eventually, the circle of taxation and army building is interrupted by even more joyous news:

PAak8er.png

nUt8iwu.png

:lol::lol::lol:

Half his arrmy gone in one fell swoop! No need to kill this bo nao Gong Lan, he's doing such a good job of it himself.

Things are definitely looking brighter now. In fact...

Moving up in the world through blessed aggressive indifference.

Wanted to link the Song of No-Involvement by Skyclad but some cuck axed it from youtube. Yutubo is a disappointment!

Bad news men, I fucked up the screen cap business and lost an entire update!

Best I can do is a recap:

Sutibu kept playing it safe, recruiting troops and farming duel encounters. Winning duels increased honour, which allowed for more troops/tax increases.

Sideburns got himself killed and his son Yukinari took over, keeping the first spot and retaining around a thousand men.

Sadaie retired in favour of his heir Okiyuki, who was killed in some horrible manner and in turn succeeded by his own heir Eijun. Since Sutibu helped their family back in the day, Eijun remained mildly friendly to him.

As for Rihei, welll... Let's just say he kept being Rihei.

In the end, Sutibu overtook the second position from Eijun, having an army of around nine hundred. By then, reports had started coming in saying Lord Mogami's campaign against the Date scum was faring badly. This was a clear signal that the race for daimyo would soon begin.

Time for no-involvement was over.

And that is where this update begins:

The impending Doom Expansion Set for Lord Mogami changes everything. Yukinari is the top dog, he has the most troops and he will no doubt try to become the new daimyo. Fortunately, reports arrive of him being pinned down at his estate, so Sutibu heads over to have a little talk with him.

This loser must be dealt with, too. Normally, Sutibu would just wait for Rihei to screw up, but with stakes this high it would be foolish to leave anything to chance.

Ever the tactful gentleman, Sutibu attempts to persuade Yukinari to abandon his plan to become daimyo.

It works flawlessly. :M

Yukinari is succeeded by his heir Doko, a clueless chump who only manages to keep half the troops. Rihei, however, continues to mass-recruit soldiers. Not cool. Not cool at all.

A very large force of murder-crazed warrior monks. Yeah, no. Better leave that for some dude with a death wish!

Things are looking good, and as he continues to bolster his forces Sutibu grows ever more confident. It has been a long journey, he reflects, one full of pain, humiliation and crushing defeats. To achieve his dream, he even married a female, one that smells, is dirty. But now, finally, it is all within his reach!

"You will kneel or be kneeled. I will make you call me daimyo, shitheads! Ayo, I will-"

Suddenly, his joyful thoughts are rudely interrupted. An urgent message has arrived...

Okay, no need to panic! Still number one. Let's review:

Way ahead, but that land Eijun received is troublesome, he will be able to hire more men and close the gap. Friend or not, he must be taken down. But how? The classic insult? Yes! Best to go with the tried and tested samurai tactic.

Take his honour, cut him down to size. Or just cut him down!

"Damn it, must hurry! Going to move out first thing-"
