Never played Radiant Historia so I'll be pretty glad to play the superior remake. Hopefully a sequel will follow if there's enough interest. Also nice to see that there's more stuff to look forward to for the 3DS beyond EO5.

The radiant historia art is now generic anime-ish :negative:, I liked the old one better
Yeah, excited about the remake but the art is an (expected) decline. For some reason Japanese devs think they have the change the art to do... well I'm not sure what, but maybe it's a resolution thing.

Atlus is hosting a stream tomorrow with some kind of announcement. Hopefully it's about the new SMT or maybe even about the new fantasy project, although it is probably too early for to say anything about that game.

This is not a link to the stream, this is just a timer for when it happens. I'll post a link once something goes up.

*Checks carefully Radiant H's new art* Where's the difference? Original art was quite animeish already. The main character's attire for example, was somewhat sensible... Except for these belts, of course.

Shin Megami Tensei: Deep Strange Journey announced for 3DS. Enhanced port or whatever the fuck.

Seems to be like Radiant Historia. New character named Alex and new ending route.

There's an easy mode, you can save in dungeons.

Yes Atlus, continue ignoring pc market and release your games on a perfectly emulable console.

Considering I just bought a 3DS one week ago, I am pretty happy... if ATLUS bother to localize them for western market.

I honestly don't know why ATLUS is adamant on not porting to PC though. SEGA as ATLUS parent company already have lot of their games in Steam afterall.

The pc isn't some instantly profitable platform.
The sales on pc are significantly lowered compared to their console counterparts and the pricing is dictated by bundle sales designed to lower the price as much as possible.
In order to make a buck on pc you need a small team that can port games with a small budget and enough experience to not fuck up basic open gl stuff.
Or you can get the cheapest option for programmers and overprice your games(like war games).
The second option is what most Japanese dev's do,and it is profitable for them.

As for atlus, considering they have no pc porting experience(atlus games on steam are not developed by atlus) and have not ported any of their previous games on other platforms ,i see no reason why they should change that.

The core team that is making persona games just doesn't care.

This isn't some universal truth across the board. We're not talking about GTA or Call of Duty here, which are the types of games that actually sell a significantly larger amount of copies on consoles(while still selling extremely well on PC, so..). CS:GO is at 25+ million copies sold on Steam. What do you think it's at on consoles? I can't imagine it's more than 2-3 and even that is pushing it. Guess this means Valve shouldn't bother with consoles!

It would be extremely easy for Atlus to make a lot of money on Steam even if they refused to port new games for whatever insane reason. Just make mediocre ports of popular games in their backlog like Persona 3, 4, Nocturne etc.

As for atlus, considering they have no pc porting experience(atlus games on steam are not developed by atlus) and have not ported any of their previous games on other platforms ,i see no reason why they should change that.

Well, so far we still need to hear anything about localization of last Etrian Odyssey which came out some time ago in Japan. I hope it just takes some time and we that wont be case for last announcement.
As for SEGA, most of their pc games are from Relic and Creative Assembly which were focus on pc long before being bought. In theory they want to port more of their games to pc but after few years they did that with only Valkyria Chronicles and Sonic Lost World. If SEGA tempo is so slow I doubt Atlus will be any faster.

We had the same deal with the Etrian Odyssey IV and Untold 2, both of which took almost a year to release stateside. I don't think Atlus is a very large company, and probably spent most of its resources on Persona 5. Though they are taking a while to announce anything.

EDIT:
People actually want a sequel!?

Japan does, at least. Why, was it a bad game?

Atlus used to localize the EO games in ~6 months during the DS days. As you mentioned, hopefully it's just Perona 5 delaying things. EO V seems to be a nice return to form after III and IV.

Japan does, at least. Why, was it a bad game?

I made it far enough to get into some dungeon named after the norse domain of fire: muspelheim

Good
- Creative and fairly adaptation of the EO rules to fit a roguelike.
- Good attempt at using the established universe and lore.
- Prosper got to start his modelling career as a BOSS designer.

Bad
- The optimisation is utter shit, game runs at 10FPS max when you're in the dungeons with a full party, and this makes the entire thing feel janky and unresponsive (though maybe I should try it again now that I have Luma3DS installed...)
- Animations take for-fucking-ever to play - the timing is better if you turn them off, but then you lose so many details of what is actually going on it combat.
- Game crashes somewhat regularly, ESPECIALLY in the post-game, resulting in you losing some really good equipment permanently (you know, because: roguelike)
- The AI of your party members is the most retarded AI I have EVER seen in a video game.
- Core abilities of many classes are broken, for example the Sovereign's buffs almost ALWAYS miss the caster, so the AI will spend 5 of the characters turns just casting the same retarded buff over and over until they don't resist it.

I could easily write a book about how fucking dumb the AI is, some highlights
- If they ever get a little hurt and there's an enemy around, they will BEG you every turn to use an item to heal themselves, rather than just deliver the finishing blow to said enemy.
- If you say NO to their incessant begging, they will waste their turn doing NOTHING
- If there's a single enemy with about 10HP left, the AI will make your runemaster cast a 27TP spell, rather than just having the gunner shoot the enemy that poses 0 threat.
- If you travel along corridors, and you get ambushed at the exit of a corridor, so that your other 3 part members are still in the corridor, the ai will do fuck all while you get pelted to death; If you take control of them, especially if they're gunners or runemasters, you can easily cast spells to help out without any issue
- The AI does not know how to play ANY of the classes, let alone effectively - For example if I forego taking a medic with me but take a sovereign instead, the AI will never ever use extremely potent Protect Order and Prevent Order abilities.

I could go on and on.
It actually has the right elements to be fun, but it's utterly ruined by how dumb the AI is.
I completely stopped having fun several dungeons before muspelheim, purely because the game devolved into just babysitting AI that makes less informed decisions than a 3-year old who can't even tie their own shoelaces.

Voice acting in Radiant Historia, meh. It's a waste of money, it's not like the added VA will be good, or actually add anything. They should have spent those resources fixing the battle system a bit instead. The game had its challenges, and the individual elements of the battle system were intuitive, and should have lent to some fun strategy, but non-boss fights all devolved into pushing or pulling as many enemies into a pile, then hitting them with the most effective spell to kill 'em all at once. Started off fun because it was like solving a (very easy) puzzle with how to move enemies optimally, but there were very few enemy layouts on the 3x3 board per dungeon. It became rote after 5 - 10 minutes spent in an area.

They're also adding anime cutscenes. Never been a fan of anime, unfortunately. But, it's Atlus so I'll be buying the game anyway.

Expanding on the post above: in the original Generation Xth some classes would learn spells later and you could multiclass to create really versatile casters.

Now the three casters are specialists and MANDATORY - you need a healer to heal, a mage for float and AoE damage and the tech guy for indentify & traps. These are all back row characters, so all you can really choose is who you'll use in the front row. A HUGE downgrade.

The game is also easier - if you play it casually you'll never be in danger, not even in boss battles & hunts. BUT it gives you means to make things more exciting: there's an item you can equip that raises the lv of all enemies by 5, which makes a HUGE difference. Also, the more you fight without resting / failing, the harder enemies become, meaning you can combine both to run into stuff like this:

Party wipe like it's 1981!

Overall, still a fun game. Dungeons are great, you can skip all the boring visual novel talk and I'm looking forward to playing the Generation Xth 2 content and the post-game. That will probably be HARD, considering how DRPGs are...

Also good news is that the sqeuel to Operation Abyss arrives in May and allows for multi-classing!
