Yeah above all else the loss of SCS is massive. I can't imagine playing BG without it. Besides being a total cakewalk if you're an experienced player, it adds so much encounter diversity to the game

What do you mean by "the loss of SCS"?

Guide to Installing and Modding Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Siege of Dragonspear and Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition
but-why.gif

With EET, the EE's are very close to being strictly surperior to the old versions (barring aesthetic UI aversions). I realize the Codex hates the EE's (hell, I practically started the hate), but with several years of modding, the mod content for the EE's is pretty much superior. I haven't played Siege of Dragonspear yet (saving it for two small compatability issues being resolved), but the people I trust say it's pretty good gameplay-wise.

The only major lacking gameplay mod is Level1NPCs, and not many people use that (I can't play BG without it, unfortunately, so I'm still stuck on the old versions). The rest are pretty much compatible. Even EET is close to being compatible with all relevant mods, it just lacks Item Randomiser and some other misc stuff.

The hate is justified considering that BD is not really selling something new. They sell you something you can already have for much cheaper with stuff you do not need. It is essentially a cash grab, nothing more and by god I rather play without mods than giving them a single cent. Outside of some graphic stuff and a few minor improvements to interface the rest was available through mods easily and in fact BD used at least in parts readily available mods on their own so there was even less effort needed on their part.

Its release brought awareness of isometric RPGs to groups of people who had never played BG1 before, and who either didn't have a Windows PC or the knowledge and/or wherewithal to mod the game. The context of the release is important, and I'm still glad they made them despite finding SoD and IWD:EE the only worthwhile ones. Keep in mind that BG1:EE was released in November of 2012- we weren't exactly swimming in isometric RPG releases. The kickstarter campaigns for PoE, WL2 and SRR had only finished several months prior. While I don't have any data to back this up, it's my feeling that BG1:EE, PoE, WL2 and SRR had a combined net positive impact on the market. Again, I don't have any data, but I think that makes it easier for new, niche games more aligned with some of our sensibilities to be made.

It's easy to shit on the new UI and poor NPCs, but I'd rather live in a world where there are isometric RPGs I can dismiss, or choose the flavor of, than be back in dark ages of the mid 2000s.

What nonsense is this? BG 1 and BG 2 are two of the higest rated RPGs all time and pretty well known to anyone interested in RPGs in general. Furthermore they were still available for sale prior to the EEtard crap. What's more the EE does not offer anything substantial over the originals which could not achieved with freely available mods.

To be fair I know that, you know that, 99% of the people on RPGCodex know that, and maybe 60%-70% of the people over at the Watch know that. But that still leaves 99% of the "gaming" public thinking the BG games are outdated relics from the 1990's. There is literally no compelling reason for someone like us to buy/play the EE but even if they got a few thousand extra people interested in isometric RPGs they were not all bad.

Why would they be interested in the EE suddenly when they were not interested in them in the first place? In this day and age it is so easy to inform yourself about older games via youtube that I sincerly doubt that outside of retarded Biodrones and some who have lost their original CDs are interested in buying this game and they can still get it massively cheaper by buying the original series and invest 30 minutes modding it themselves.

And yet people who never played Skyrim bought the SE as well. Anyway you underestimate most peoples desire to have shit easy. BGEE is easy. BG2EE is easy. Modding a 20 year old game is not "easy" to most people.

BTW wasn't there a super mod that combined BGT with IWD making it all one game?

Yeah its called EET you can play it right now although the IWD part isn't in there yet. Do to beamdog not updateing the game to the 2.0 patch, Been playing it for the last couple of days seems alright it has a decent number of mods for it. Although nowhere near as many as BGT did here is the link http://gibberlings3.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=27741

I was replying to ghostdog and jaesun who were discussing vanilla BG1. As in: without BG2 engine. And then I even write "vanilla BG1" in the post you're quoting. So what gives

If you don't speak to Renal with Yoshimo or at least have him in LoS during the initial convo (i.e, not waiting on the entry staircase), then it will be as if he hasn't met with Renal (despite interjecting when Renal hands you the Mae'var quest), and he will keep reminding you to meet with Renal, but his thread with Renal is permanently closed off.

This is with latest fixpack.

World of Baldur's Gate?
BG1+TotSC+BG2+ToB+IWD (with add-ons) and recent version allow you to include Icewind Dale II.
But you need to configure it since it also include most (almost all) adventure mods like The Darkest Days for example.
Even though they removed most retardly OP item rewards and spell from these mods it still bork old balance, obviously.

Yeah for WoB, the best is just to keep it to the BG games and to mods that do not affect balance in a negative way.

IIRC you have to download everything manually for WoB though, so if you don't download retarded shit like DoD it won't install.

Some minor mod conflicts (mostly of a conceptual nature) I've discovered in my current BGT run:

~CDTWEAKS/SETUP-CDTWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #4050 // Change Jaheira to Neutral Good: v3
and
~CDTWEAKS/SETUP-CDTWEAKS.TP2~ #0 #4110 // Give Kagain A Legal Constitution Score of 19: v3
conflict with some of the banters in the BG1 NPC Project

BGSpawn conflicts with ~STRATAGEMS/SETUP-STRATAGEMS.TP2~ #0 #4020 // More realistic wolves and wild dogs.
SCS (I assume) makes War Dogs spawned alongside Bandits docile.

Anyone have experience with BGSpawns? It looks like the best spawn system option for BGT. Very few Gibberlings and Kobold and no Xwarts have spawned in my current game (just reached Nashkel), though.

One annoying thing in my current game: after the party lost 4 Reputation thanks to the BG1 NPC Project version of Montaron's actions against Marl and his buddy in Beregost, CHARNAME's Cure Light Wounds spell (not ability) is changed to Cause Light wounds instead. Now why would a Reputation loss change the spells granted by his god?
It doesn't affect Jaheir'a cure spells.
Any ideas?

Does one of your mods swap around CHARNAME's abilities pool from alignment to reputation-based?

I would skip the component "More realistic wolves and wild dogs." Beside making randomly non-hostile war dogs and wolves, as you said, makes the fleeing wolves disappearing in thin air.

Hmm...interesting difference between TuTu and BGT: in TuTu the Nashkel mines had lots more Kobold Commandos, while in BGT I only encountered one before entering the lowest level.
I'm not using the Darkside Kobolds component of SCS, though, since the Kobold Shamans and Chieftains seemed rather over the top for the absolute lowest of humanoid lowlife. Also, DavidW assumes going to the Gnoll Fortress before Nashkel Mines, which is opposite of what I do, in which case SCS's Kobold Kabal at the end of lvl 3 is a mightily difficult battle indeed.
