The game expects you to do the side quests. Or just grind in the forest kingdom. There are lots of large packs of enemies and clearing them out a few times will level you up fast. The next boss will be pretty tough if you aren't at least level 20.

Thank god I reached the point where the save stations become teleports. Running backwards and forwards between desert/ camp/ machine village was getting a little tiresome.

Putting it back up to hard again for a bit now I've found some better chips, mobs can barely touch me on normal now and if they do, my life on hit regens it in a few swipes. Wouldn't mind hard mobs, but with lock on. Shame it's not customisable really, as nothing is tied to difficulty but enjoyment of combat.

It looks like a game which most will play with hard on.

Why are all the characters so fucking boring? What happened to all the lovable degenerate bastards from original Nier? The plot and OST also ain't up to snuff. This game is a massive letdown right now, 4 bosses in. I hope it gets better.

So, how is the English voice acting? Is it as good or better than the Japanese version?

Ok, guys, how do i ride the animals? I bought the pouch or whatever straight away and they don't run away from me, but i can't figure out how to mount them. Also, i don't know how to use the lure :(

Go into the item menu and 'use' the bait somewhere near them and they'll wander over to it. The first one that gets there becomes rideable with 'B' or the KB equivalent. There's a bit of a tutorial the first time you do it, but it's pretty much the same as on foot.

Is this like Dark Souls where it wants to be played with a controller or is it KB+M friendly?

Controller may be superior, but keyboard and mouse works well in my experience. Very stronk aiming with machinegun.

Beat the game and have been doing the next playthrough now. So far my favorite boss fight has been the shmup one. It was the most fun one to fight and it had actual good boss music (since the song was taken directly from the OG Nier ost lol). Kinda sad. None of the characters are interesting at all so far either. I was surprised that Eve was the final boss. Didn't feel like there was any build up to it, like there was with the Shadowlord. I feel completely detatched from all the characters and their motives and struggles, probably because so far it feels like they have none. And for fuck sake 9S' move set with the short sword sucks ass harder than Toobies did. And I can't believe they replaced his Heavy attack with a fucking minigame. I'm just gonna rush this so I can be done with 9S ASAP because fuck this guy.

The game is fairly entertaining, though the world doesn't feel as neatly connected as in Dark Souls.

Can somebody explain why the combat androids are of the hot female variety? Is there an in-world reason for that or is that what the art director likes?

The reasons are too complex and esoteric for gaijin mortals to understand but, needless to say, their prestigious nature is obvious :obviously:

RPG Site: Well, that actually brings me on to the next question, which is... about these designs, 2B and 9S. Why are they so pretty? Is there a story reason robots of war look this way?

Taro Yoko: Nah, to be honest, that's just what I liked! The reason why they dress the way they do with the black clothing, the blindfolds, the masks... that has a very deep, significant meaning within the story. That's something I want the players to experience and find out by getting their hands on the game and seeing what that's all about.

He also wanted to get away from the trope of "future warriors" generally looking like space marines.

M/KB works fine, you can rebind everything. Except the mouse. English voice acting is fine, not all lines are voiced though.

I'd advise to wait for the first patch and/or a new driver release from AMD/Nvidia if you think about giving it a shot. Lots of people get frequent crashes and bad performance in certain areas.

I kinda understand where you're coming from. The meat of the game in the first two playthroughs is in the side-quests, a whole bunch of which sync up quite nicely with the overarching storyline of the main-quest. Major story and character development doesn't really happen up until the third playthrough. The game tries to focus more on the world itself instead of its characters, which is what largely sets it apart from the first game. Since the protagonists aren't human it sort of makes sense, but it certainly moves the game in a different direction compared to the original.

I never thought I'd see a Yoko Taro game on the top of any sales list ever.

That means only means... Drakendgard 4 in 2020:dance:

Personally I hope he gets the chance to do some new ideas. Or hell, a Nier prequel taking place during the days after Caim and Angelus crash land on Earth.

I heard he had other ideas for spin-offs based on other Drakengard 1 endings.
