Heh, I don't mind the gypceros, but that's probably because my memories of it involve cheesing the fuck out of the Adept style against it in MH:G.

If you're playing multiplayer, please don't be "that guy" and trip everyone aronud you with a longsword.

4U is quite balanced, and there's no really "shit" weapon, although sword&board, greatsword and longsword are the easiest and most reliable to use solo. horn and bow and guns are a pain to use solo and require a lot of money and preparation.

Keep an eye out for anything that increases your backstep/evade distance and anything that increases sharpness.

Don't rely on rolling too much. it's a crutch for bad players and you will get punished very hard for it once you get to 6 star. Disregard this advice if you manage to get your hands on evade +3 armor, because that gives your rolls a ridiculous .6 seconds of I-frames. (dark souls fastroll is around .5sec for comparison). Obviously you always want to roll into an attack instead of away, so you end up either closer to the monster (where he can't hit you as easily) or on the side that's vulnurable.

If a monster takes an hour to kill, it probably means you haven't prepared enough. Use the right elemental weapon and read the lore books to find the weakness if it isn't obvious. Many monsters are almost completely invulnerable anywhere other than their weak spot.

I'm a lance main because lances excel at cutting tails and dealing big damage on hard to reach areas like eyes. If you pick lance, try to prioritize backsteps over shielding. backsteps have a few I-frames that can be taken advantage of. Parrying is quite easy with the lance, and the counter attack has one of the highest damage outputs.

WTF am I reading. MH is basically "hit until it dies, don't get hit" -- you never tank or trade blows with monsters. Evade will just increase the i-frames for rolls and sidestep and, if anything, will mess your timings when you don't get an armor with it/gem it in.

Hoaxmetal, just roll or sidestep as much as you want. Pay attention to the patterns and after practice you'll be dancing around monsters than once gave you trouble. Perkel also gave some good advice.

read my post again. i never said anything about tanking blows. I meant that side and backstepping is preferable to rolling, and you should be getting good at those first. there are a lot of noobs in multiplayer who rely too much on rolling.

edit: in my opinion, evade +3 is overpowered and easily the best perk in the game, especially with lance. you're right that relying on it is a bad habit thait spoils the game a bit.

Or better yet, ignore elemental weapons and go for weapons with high raw damage values (i.e the base non-elemental damage that they do). Elemental damage is trash in Monster Hunter, plain and simple. Even if you use the element that the monster is weak against, that's not enough. You have to hit them in the exact right places as well to actually exploit that ele weakness. Too many hoops for a reward that's neither rewarding nor worth it imo. Status effects are fine, though.

Gotcha. :salute: Barely touched multi in 4U, randoms were indeed insufferable and kept carting.

Yes, side/backstep is better to keep the attacks going in weapons that do support it. However, unless Generations added new moves, Hammer players still need to roll. At least 4U added that precious roll into charge.

MH Gen gives you Evade +3 for free, so, yeah. Adept Hammer is ridonkulously stronk in MH Gen, to the point where it trivialized the whole game imo.

Getting hang of it, HR2 now. Still cannot choose which armor set I should craft next. Also wishing there was something like this on PC :M

there's a monster hunter clone coming to steam called toukiden 2 from koei-tecmo releasing in 2 days. i dunno if its going to be good though since koei has a spotty track record but apparently the first one was alright
