You hear that Norfleet ? The end is nigh! Better get your anti-fun wall built ASAP, or cut your losses and bail before the funflood cometh.

But seriously, look at those "our main goals" bulletpoints. A bunch of hollow marketing speak for beginners. The only thing missing is "The changes will open a up a new paradigma" and Dilbert can yell "bingo"... :hahano:

To my ears it spells that STO is not doing well, so they're getting desperate, "Let's say what the players want to hear!" type of crap. I wonder how shit the game is actually doing.

No, they are just nerfing shit as usual.

Apparently ground abilities had no hard timers so you could in theory have Tactical Team with 100% uptime ... now all abilities will have a hard timer you cannot decrease, another things they changed was Security Teams were if your Security Team was still around if you use it, you got another so people were managing to run with 8 Security Officers around, they are changing it so it refreshes your security team (guess it means, it just removes your existing one and replaces it), as this might sound sensible the problem is how it affects every class, Scis have stupid long timers and their hard timers just makes then useless most of the timer ...their abilities are simply garbage because their damage output or whatever the fuck they do simply isnt enough to justify their insane long timers, Engs dont get any better because Fabrications now no longer get any benefit so they have no real HP, have a insane amount of aggro (basically only thing a turret is good for is to distract the enemy into attacking it) deal no real damage and since their HP will no longer buffed by skills, they are completely worthless especially because generators will also no longer stack their healing, you will only be affected by one.

The reason ground combat in STO sucks is because MMOs have moved away from watching timers, I am not arguing for the end of "tab targeting" but rather having a completely shit abilities that does fuck all every 30 seconds that makes me ignore them, if they want to "modernize" combat they should look at newer games were abilities either have the damage output to justify their timers and/or are spammable to the point your basic attack is rarely used.

This is typical of Cryptic were it seems they have way too many "systems engineers" so we are stuck in a endless loop of revamps that only exist to justify their continuous employment, not only this wasnt needed but also theis is a attempt to "solidify" their OBSOLETE game design ideology further, the biggest issue is ground queues were created based on the old design ... the boss in Cure Ground was build around having a Sci meele him with Tacts and Engs to support him, this is likely break how Armek was meant to be taken because abilities no longer work as they should.

Typical Craptic.

Yeah, and the devs probably aren't even playing the game as they've made so many horrible decisions over and over again.

Of course, its a Tactical Captain ability that doesnt take a module, no reason to not use it.

I guess the original team never put hard times because cooldown reductions didnt really exist back them, there were locked kits so its not like you could halve timers with duplicate modules but this was something that should been done along with the kit changes, they allow things to go on for years to the point its acceptable gameplay ... when they go around "fixing then" its then viewed as changing the rules because they allowed it to go long enough.

The other mistake is stating with nerfs, I mean they fucked nerfed Support Drone for God sake, since this in the testing server they should start with buffs so when they go around nerfing stuff people will see it as a re-balancing since things were buffed, people always see what they done ... not what they intend to do or might do because people arent into futurology or mind reading, of course there are a few fanboys going around defending this because of course they would, what surprises me if how the fuck does Cryptic still have fanboys after being so inept.

And yes, they dont play the game or dont actually play the game because there is a ton of minor shit that just bugs me that could be easily corrected, I suspect a lot of this is due to the company itself ... people higher up that make the decisions dont play the game, they enforce their "design philosophy" into the game when it does more harm then good, they build a game around timers and yet they refuse to implement the ability to autocast, their abilities simply dont justify their cooldown timers in terms of damage or duration, worst there is one particular dumbfuck that keeps making abilities with cooddown with a downside (Reroute Power from Life Support is shinny a example of that stupidity), they overestimate their abilities and always come short of meeting deadlines leading to release broken content they can always "patch later" with later being God knows when, they certainly dont.

Their latest attempt to make player to not go into sleep mode is a another fucking event, a King of the Hill scenario and you know what? FUCK IT! I did kill grinds for accolades ... that is nothing but a low effort queue at the same level as BASIC Foundry missions, those are so mind boggling boring the most uses one have some AFK mod build-in because killing 10 waves of enemies is just too long and dull.

The Barbie doll house of customizing your bridge, crew, and all that stuff is the most fun thing. There's a strong feeling of its "it's MINE, not Kyle's, MINE" in Cartman voice when you're all done with whatever latest tweaking obsession gets done. Sadly the game doesn't actually have you do things on your bridge with Treknobabble (like, replace all the jogging/cruising bullshit that is just from going from place to place with this and it'd be more Trek AND let you enjoy your personal TNG set and cast).

Kinda but honestly, their customization system is now pretty old and cannot hold a candle to even the likes of TERA.

Also doesnt help anything new ends up being shipped to the Lobi store, there is a huge disparacy of Fed options compared with the bare bones of Rom/KDF and even some basic Fed stuff like new combadges doesnt come out, the "official" reason is uniforms dont sell but every fucking new Lock Box comes with a new uniform in the Lobi Store and if they are going to bullshit saying its from the enemy ... Kelvin Romulan Miner Uniform ... not used anywhere in the game.

And this is a game designed by programmers everything new seems to be whatever new mechanic they think its interesting, it really became DPS Online because its the only content that gets delivered to the players, interiors been entirely abandoned since they dont even exist on the consoles, they get a bridge and thats it.

Even playing "space barbie" falls into chinese knockoff, they put visible impulse engines on the Nebula for God sake, "Star Trek Fans"? more like Mass Effect Fans considering the amount of glowing shit that gets shoved into their newer models to the point I have to check if I didnt traveled back in time to 1986.

Well, a Star Trek game true to the series would actually have to be an adventure/RPG kind of game with you controlling the leading party. Especially in the Original Series, you almost never see the ship from the outside.
That's pretty interesting to watch on TV, but no material at all for an MMO.
Not sure if you can even have an MMO without combat focus that wouldn't bore people to death. Hell, even Hello Kitty Online is kinda combat focused (yes, I played it)

Well, at least after however many fucking years someone there realized that if carrier pets aren't immune to Warp Core Breach they just end up doing kamikaze rong.

They knew, they also keep adding Pets with Scratch the Paint that make then immune to Warp Core Breach so they knew, in fact I would say they attempted to monetize them instead of just updating all pets.

"Player Investment remains true" is one thing that does make them disgusting, considering T5U and the shit they pulled with T6 ships ... we all know thats a lot of shit.

Okay, let's go over the shortlist of things that may concern Vaarna.

1. Sci captains now have an APA-For-Science. If your Sci Captain isn't flying something Sciency, your ability is useless. This means you, Vaarna, Sci in a Snoozer.

2. Leech doesn't count as Sciency, since it is now useless.

3. Plasma Exploders are vendortrash. Sci console slots are once again a dump for Uni consoles.

4. If you were using Strategist, your ship is a brick. MAKE AUX2BATT GREAT AGAIN!

5. FAW has been nerfed to death. Welcome back to Escorts Online!

Those are the points which immediately concern Vaarna.
