what if there was an enemy with the ability to teleport and attack in the same turn, has an absurdly high melee and ranged defense, inflicts bleeding wounds, regenerates HP and needs to be killed twice. :argh:

so far 3/4ths of my obituary is deaths from necrosavants.

Just encountered necrosavants I thought they were dumb zombies with slightly better melee skill. Then they teleported murdered to my archers and from there on it was dusk till dawn bar fight scene followed by game over screen. I think you need to give all your brothers that underdog skill and shields either way its bullshit.

Are there any side or strange effects from eating the "strange meat" you find on Greenskins? I've been too scared to take it.

Holy shit! I was doing so well and then I encountered Orc Warriors for the first time. Fighting panzers with swords, basically. What are your tactics against them?
I haven't fought Necrosavants yet but I'm scared shitless of them already.
Amazing game! Imagine what Battle Brothers 2 could be!

Last stand:
I got cocky and took a bunch of fresh hires.

My sergeant took it like a man and went down fighting, though.

The Wienerzombies are soooo fucking boring HP sponges, rising over and over. I've never lost anyone to them, but I hate how tedious those fights are and avoid them. Once had a battle brother do 1100 damage during such a fight, wtf? I could win 2-3 other battles in the time it takes.

The other thing it needs is an "End turn for the whole company at once" so I dont have to click through all the guys for a minute to end their turns when I just want to let the last panicked goblin to run away.

What are some of the occupations you find it worth shelling out extra for? The upkeep of the guys are so high and there's no guarantee they won't have some shitty traits and star ratings.

Are you sure you don't want some help adjusting that bandage over your helmet, bro?

The next battle he almost one-shotted one of my men with a swing attack that also missed two enemies, thank god for the rotation skill

Copy paste from Steam forums, from a guy (UR|Dialetheia) with more than 700hours played.
I usually recruit the following: Brawlers, Butchers, Farmhands, Caravan Hands, Apprentices, Tailors, Masons, Wildmen, Militia Men, Hunters, Lumberjacks, Witch Hunters, Raiders, Retired Soldiers, Deserters, Adventurous and Disowned Nobles, Swordmasters, Squires, Sellswords and Hedge Knights. Mercs from those backgrounds, even cheap ones, stand a good chance of having decent base stats, relevant talent distribution and good traits, and thus can potentially be developed in proper fighters, rather than fodder. Sellswords, Adventurous Nobles and Hedge Knights naturally stand out as the two most expensive and most reliable types of recruits. While it's not required, it's natural to strive towards eventually replace all your initial combatants with mercs from those backgrounds. You are unlikely to complete the process, and will likely settle somewhere in the middle. Swordmasters and Retired Soldiers might not impress with their stats, but i find it worthwhile to keep them anyway, for the excellent Events if for nothing else. Militiamen are a fairly reliable, if often expensive, pick, but frequently disappoint with bonkers stat distribution, so take caution. Hunters and Lumberjacks, i find, are the most reliable choice for their mid-ground price and maintenance. And, well, in a pinch, fodder can be hired from any background - daytallers, messengers, fishermen, what have you. And due to talents and traits, occasionally even a lowly Beggar can become a really good combatant.

So I reached a point in the game where all the missions I get seems to be too tough for the earnings. 73 days in on Veteran Iron man. My gold balance is about 10-20k, but I find myself having to buy expensive soldiers after most missions, since I often lose a couple.

16 days into the game I was having the best start ever, but then I tried fighting a necromancer in a swamp and got hit by fatigue and missing luck at the right points., which meant only 2 bros made it out alive. I was able to rebuild and things have been going great, with a lot of due diligence on my part. But now I reached this point, where everything seems to be going downhill slowly.

After cancelling two missions, because I did not like the odds, I decided to try my first fight against orcs (4 young, 4 warriors). The warriors completely massacred my party, and once again only 2 made it out alive.

I now have 13k gold and still have euqipment in store for another batch of bros, but I am really considering to Retire.

Am I just too far behind where I should be at day 73? Or can I catch up again somehow? It seems impossible if I am not able to get some lower paid/easier missions again.

Some tips on how to survive through the midgame in general, would be very appreciated.

Been playing the latest release build for awhile now and wow, did they come a long way. A few builds ago I decided to quit and wait for release to avoid burning out on Battle Brothers but I just couldn’t resist. A few observations and questions after playing the game over the weekend.

Either I'm simply missing out on it or is the mission where you go and find a location gone? It was always a decent one for a starting merc company to get some money.

Haven't seen a single named enemy after the tutorial guy. To be honest, I kinda miss them. Either the rng isn't with me or are they removed from the game? I recall that bandits sometimes had named enemies outside of missions and I do think I saw at least one named orc warlord once. Not anymore. Same with going after a necromancer. Haven't seen that mission pop up anymore. Might be rng but I used to get loads of these. Now none.

Have bounty missions gone the way of the dodo? Haven't seen these anymore and I miss my scalp hunts.

Love the obituary but was both relieved and a bit disappointed when the merc I accidently slaughtered myself didn't show up. Methinks the poor bastard should earn some recognition for the friendly fire he took.

The level of polish I'm noticing is astounding. I've played this since its first release and I must admit that I never expected the devs to implement the amount of attention that they did. The first releases where already a great game and it only got better. Love how they kept consistently to their view.

Finally I'm seeing actual npc merc companies on the map. Love that little detail. The named weapons are very fun to run into as well. Something unique and high tier to go after. Same with ambitions and retirement. It gives the game direction and a goal. The newly reworked undead are a bitch for me. Heavy armor and high initiative and no morale or fatique checks. Yikes. Throw in some reworked vampires and you're set for a decent challenge. I'm glad whenever I get a bunch of squishy goblins or regular humies as enemies.

Since I followed the game for a long time it does hurt to see some features that didn't make it. Camp followers, indoor enviroments, more beasts and the cut demon faction are sorely missed. Hope this game becomes a hit. I'd love to see this stuff in DLC. Perhaps we might even see a return of rivers... Anyway, kudos to the devs for a splendid job. Hope to see more of these guys!

Tips: Goblins. Avoid in early game. Later on attack at night and close in quickly to make full use of how squishy they are. Use weapons that help your chances of scoring a hit. Stuff like spears. Dogs do wonders against goblin ambushers. Zombies now often seem to have ghosts with them. Zombies need a shieldwall to hold out. Ghosts need to die quickly to keep the wall intact. Just throw everything at them and then find a good defensive spot. Manage your fatigue and equipment. If there is a necromancer sneak something to him (dogs work) and see how much he sucks at close range. Orcs? Hammertime indeed. Also get rid of berserkers asap. They grow nasty when they work. Necrosavant is mostly the old vampire with an armed retinue. Put some fighters in your back row when encountering them. They lack armor but have a massive punch. Make sure to take them down quickly and as hard as you can. The new skeletons? Haven't entirely worked them out. Archers seem to work hardly at all. Shieldwall with hammers and picks does do damage. They got high armor, seem to have high initiative and no morale or fatigue penalties. Their shields are massive btw. Oh, and the new ghouls? Take them out before they feed. Once they do they both grow and get all the HP back. Wounding them piecemeal doesn't work. Archers do a job on them.

Bandit leaders have been named when I have fought them.

If you mean the head-counting patrol missions, the nobles have those. You are also often able to ask them for a pr. head pay with the normal slaughter-a-location missions.

It did when I killed my own guy with an arrow.

For the shiledwallers pull out those flails you always forget. Sure they don't ignore the shieldwall skill but they do give a solid 60% to hit compared to 40% and skeletons are fragile, so two hits will be enough.

For the Ancient honour guards its Hammertime again, big armour, not that much defensive skill. Positioning is incredibly important against them, all those two tillers and two handers require a lot of care. Having two to three backliner carefully ganging up on one point of the line to take down one guard at a time worked for me.

Flails just aren't my thing. Same with nets and throwing weapons. I should use them more often. Still, the ancient legoinaires got simply too much armor and too high a shield defense to quickly take out with flails. Same with spears. Usually I need to hammer past the armor and hope the shield doesn't stop me. The ancillaries are weaker and go down quickly with spears when they get past the bucklers. Flails should work fine there indeed.

Also you can divide them if you separate your forces. They are much lesser threat when they can't maintain formation. If they don't have priests and savants, ancient dead is one faction that you can actually get benefits when fighting in forests.

Wait so flails ignore shield bonuses but don't ignore shieldwall?

That seems retarded tbqh

I feel your pain. I am playing ironman on expert difficulty, and the undead invasion has begun. My first explicitly anti-undead mission was a "two-star" assignment to save a besieged city. I get there, and the first battle is 12 auxiliaries and 2 necrosavants. Then, 14 auxiliaries and 2 necrosavants. My party is totally exhausted, and... the mission isn't over? 12 ancient legionaries show up. Specifically, 6 shield wall guys, and 6 pike guys. It was brutal, walked out of the mission with 8 mercs left out of 18 or so.

Anyway, I'm still playing and slowly clawing my way back. Basically, go to a lot of smaller towns and take their local contracts. It's not that hard for a beginner party to slaughter some bandits or nachzehrers if your equipment is good.

I am all ears for any advice on how to fight undead. Those spears are just so brutal; my party is only around level 5 to 7 and they just slaughter me.
