Extended memory was never a problem for me. Conventional memory, though... conventional memory was the rock of Sisyphus we tried to roll up the hill every day.

LH solves all your problems.

Unless you want to run Ultima 7 and need to manually disable your extended memory manager and carefully load only the most required drivers to free up the 540 KB it required...

Fucking Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries needed some rigorous excluding of drivers in order to have enough mem freed..

Yes, someone got their system.ini confused with their config.sys OMG that's a ban right there.
Confusing system.ini with config.sys is one thing, but no excuse for config.ini

Insert clever insult here
Good luck playing Strike Commander with Sound Blaster, mouse and joystick when it wanted 600 kb of conventional memory if I remember correctly and you had to enable EMS for it to run anyway.

Heh, had nothing on juggling both EMS and XMS for games that required both, on top of absurd amounts of conventional memory (Dark Sun 2 says hi).

I had QUEMM - I seem to recall it did everything for me, without me having to get my hands dirty touching config files.
Now I use Linux - how times change. Obviously I have become more intelligent and handsome with age, while the rest of the world has been dumbed down.

I don't remember if I had to turn it off to play Ultima 7, however.

I remember the boot disk the Ultima 7 installer made for me working just right. Well, actually, it didn't load my mouse's drivers, but it was easy to get it in.

Ah, the days of being super excited to play a new game you just bought, getting home, installing it, getting that "Not enough Conventional Memory" message, and then spending the next few hours reading manuals and tweaking things to get it to run. The first time was so confusing as I had no idea what any of it meant and had to teach myself, but I pressed on determined to play and learned quite a bit about my computer in the process. That feeling of victory at getting the game to run was sometimes better than beating said game.

This one is a little complicated. It's a racial description of the United States, rooted in Kwanzaa. i.e, the implication is that the United States is now some sort of failed third world -stan, with the added emphasis that it is being taken over by congoid rape gangs. Like a lot of later in-jokes, this one owes its popularity to the Codex's "embrace" of Cleveland Blakemore. It's really no more than copypasta of one of Cleve's blog posts.

Hope this helps, faggot.

Huh. I always thought it was because of the gun store that shows up at the top of 'KWA' google searches.

Because you know, guns, Amerika, and FREEDUM.

Another question:
There was this weird thing going on a couple of months ago where people would post a seemingly random anecdote, and then suddenly some celebrity showed up and weird shit happened. The End.
What the heck was that about?

Microsoft's mouse driver usually used around 12-18 kb.

It's weird. I didn't really know anything specific about Prosper, but after reading this thread (and The madness of Dr. Prosper) I kind of have.. you know, warm feelings for him. Like... I don't know, I feel like posting this  all over the place.
Weird.
Witness Prosper's creativity within this epic thread on the Obsidian forums:
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/58357-sorry-i-was-gone-so-long/

There's also a sequel thread, Sorry I was gone so long 2. Seek it yourself.

Oh, God. If I could laugh like I'm doing right now every week I'd have no stress in my life.

Was wondering wtf was about Prosper thinking he was just some insane mod maker, but the man's a genius.

Everytime I see one of his models I can't stop laughing and don't know why. I think it's the way they move.

How could the mods here ever lock such a blessed soul away in his own sub-forum and then ban him???

He's still posting here.

Example:
http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/my-prosperous-player-home-for-fallout-4.107998/

At first I thought his designs were improving glancing at the first pic.

Then i realized it was Fallout 4.
