:hmmm:

Again? You've had that problem before, but then it somehow fixed itself. I can see them fine, from several devices.

How does it look via a proxy?

I've moved across the world and it's still happening, so I doubt it's a proxy issue.

If it's just me then my PC just doesn't like postimg.

Note to self. Getting hospitalized for two weeks is not conducive to making updates. I forgot where and in what order my files are. :M

Right. The update.

Mission 2. The hunt continues.
Belkov and a few of his friends take the vehicle to the northern border...
2015_06_29_212306.jpg

After a few minutes they move eastwards and off the map, supposedly on a reckon mission...
2015_06_29_212419.jpg

...while we are working our ass off running between the workshop and warehouse, and getting yelled at by comrade major. It's not fair that someone else is getting all the fun! :argh:
2015_06_29_212519.jpg

Slowly and steadily, the tank count rises.
2015_06_29_212708.jpg

We are about to finish when the Belkov team comes back. They just sit there, chilling.
2015_06_29_212808.jpg

Hurray! The third tank moves crawls out of the workshop. Our assignment is complete!
2015_06_29_212852.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- Comrade Platonov, we have produced all the vehicles we require.
Platonov.jpg
- And in a record-breaking time, comrade Gorky. I see you thrive under my tuition.
Gorky.jpg
- We know the vehicles well now. I’m sure we will be successful driving them, major.
Platonov.jpg
- (correcting) Comrade major.
Gorky.jpg
- (terse) Sorry, comrade major.
Yep. Definitely going to be a thing.
Platonov.jpg
- You’ll have a chance to prove it, comrade Gorky. It’s time for a test drive. Head north in the vehicles and explore unknown areas.

But before we have a chance to do so...
2015_06_29_212931.jpg

A radio transmission, huh? They speak English, too. Naturally, Belkov doesn't let it slide.
Belkov_radio.jpg
- Comrade colonel Kurin, we have a new arrival. We're going to test our new vehicle on the stupid yank.
Kurin_radio.jpg
- Go ahead Belkov, hit him with all you’ve got.
Belkov_radio.jpg
- (imitates Pokryshkin's English) Welcome to the United States of Pliocene, soldier. Stay put, we'll pick you up.

Unfortunately for him, though...
2015_06_29_221708.jpg

its-a-trap1.jpg
Random.jpg
- (appears from behind a couple of trees south of Russians) Guess what comrades? Surprise! (A group of more soldiers hiding around the place gets up and opens fire.)
Belkov.jpg
- It's a trap! Retreat north! (Returns fire and drives toward the forest, when he gets there, his vehicle is on fire. He gets out and goes into forest. Other soldiers follow. American mechanic comes to the damaged vehicle, repairs it and captures it.)

Or that is how it was supposed to go in the earlier versions, based on map notes. However, the developers probably couldn't figure out a reliable way to keep the mechanic alive. What actually happens is that Belkov jumps out of his - completely undamage - vehicle and runs for the hills at top speed, without so much as trying to offer even a token resistance.
2015_06_29_222430.jpg

:nocountryforshitposters:
I guess the above can be considered his official report of the encounter, which might have been a bit embellished.

On the other hand, that is a lot of American soldiers.
2015_06_29_222434.jpg

And of course they capture our tank since it is in perfect condition and only lacks a driver. :argh:
2015_06_29_222442.jpg

The Americans try to pursue, but our men take position on a hill behind trees, and Americans and trees do not interact well. :M
2015_06_29_225018.jpg

Belkov_radio.jpg
- Comrade colonel, we're trapped by a superior American force! Send help! Now! Now!
Kurin_radio.jpg
- Restrain yourself, comrade! There is no such thing as a superior American force. Regroup and attack!
Belkov_radio.jpg
- But...
Kurin_radio.jpg
- You heard the order! Follow it! Quickly! Quickly!

You have to hear Kurin's voice to be able to understand the beauty of this conversation. He states all of this in a calm and collected - if not carefree - tone, as if scolding a child. He says 'quickly!' as one would say 'shoo, shoo' to a cat. The panic quickly dies down and the Russians give the enemy hell.

The Americans, realizing that they might lose too many people by storming up the hill with nigh perfect natural defences, turn around and fall back. They are the ones calling for reinforcements now. But they are also more likely to receive them...
2015_06_29_225118.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- Comrade major, we are now in a position to help comrade Belkov, should we...
Platonov.jpg
- (cold, terse) Comrade Belkov and his men are no concern of ours. Comrade Kurin is their commander.
Gorky.jpg
- But comrade....
Platonov.jpg
- (snapping) Shut up, Gorky! There may be more American forces in this area. Your task is to locate them and you will not deviate from it. Do you understand?
Gorky.jpg
- Comrade major, they will....
Platonov.jpg
- (shouts) DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!
Gorky.jpg
- Yes, comrade major.
Platonov.jpg
- Good. Then continue with your mission. If you make contact with the enemy, contact me, I shall give you further orders.

I don't really know what we expected. :M

Meanwhile, Belkov and his crew managed to turn the situation around...
2015_06_29_225129.jpg

...and even scored two kills, as the hills provide not only a cover, but a better shooting range as well.
2015_06_29_225138.jpg

That still does not redeem you for losing our tank, comrade. :decline:

Primary objectives received:

- Chart the Northern half of the operational area.

Oh, well, we have a mission. Better get to it.
2015_06_29_213155.jpg

What the?!
2015_06_29_213203.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- What!? This was not here earlier!
Kovalyuk.jpg
- They must have built it just to stop us reaching Belkov.
Gorky.jpg
- There might be a better way than frontal attack here.
Kovalyuk.jpg
- Like what?
Gorky.jpg
- We should see if there is a way to get there from the West.

But before we can get there...
2015_06_29_213215.jpg

Kovalyuk.jpg
- So, another little hiding place!
Gorky.jpg
- That looks a good site to build fortifications.
Gnievko.jpg
- Sure, looks easy to defend.

We are surrounded! Tell my parents I died a communist! :salute:

Ah, right. No way to communicate with the future. Never mind, then, change of plans. Chaaaarge!
2015_06_29_213602.jpg

We find a good place where we aren't harrassed from both ridges, and get to work. Unfortunately, the yanks have a few engineers to help them with the repairs, and by the time we kill the engineers, we have to retreat.

Gnievko.jpg
- What are you doing, Burlak? This is stupid idea!

Maybe. Taking the bunkers out with our level of skill is proving tedious. We move out of their range and stop for repairs.
2015_06_29_213656.jpg

It is then when we notice a nice path to the hill that oversees their base, and what a coincidence, it is just wide enough for a vehicle to pass!
2015_08_01_170834.jpg

So, Codex, what do we do from here?

Heh. Showing initiative is likely to bite you in the rear, so do that. Handle it yourself, do not communicate with base.
That, and if the Major protests, say that the radio was suffering from severe interferences and thus you couldn't communicate that detail :troll:

Please, what's the worst The Friendly Red Army is going to do, court martial him? They'll just yell at him for a bit and soon enough Platonov and Burlak will be friends again.
Right? :M

Only losers get court martialled, and comrade Gorky is not a loser. :obviously:

Gnievko.jpg
- Are you crazy Burlak? You will get us all killed!
Gorky.jpg
- Do you want our boys charging from below and getting slaughtered like Pokryshkin? We can take it out from here, nice and clean.
Kovalyuk.jpg
- You have balls like a bull, Burlak! A big bull.
Gorky.jpg
- This is only a matter of brains. Yanks are so stupid they have built a bunker there just so we can take it to pieces.

Indeed, we can safely shoot them from a distance where their bunkers don't reach us, although it takes a bit of pain to find such a spot. But once we do, they fall one by one, easily.
2015_08_01_200252.jpg

Their soldiers are about two to three levels higher than ours. Probably an effect of the difficulty level.

The second bunker falls soon after, and we, like a good officer we are, make a report to the base.
2015_08_01_200354.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- The Yanks have one place less to hide, comrade major.

:avatard:

Platonov.jpg
- Excellent, Burlak.

Disappointed? :troll:

Why would colonel Kurin court martial a successful commander during wartime?
We still have a mission to finish, though. Let's chart that map.
2015_08_01_200435.jpg

The other half of the map lies past Belkov's position. They are wounded, but still holding up alright.
2015_08_01_200935.jpg

What do we do now, Codex? Return to base? Aid Belkov? Request reinforcements? Or CHAAAAAARGE?

Maybe you'll get tired of Leeroying and would want to chat with a nice major for a change. :M

Or maybe you would want to return to the base like a beaten dog and whine. Who knows?

Mission 2. The hunt concludes.
Alright, we have a new objective!
2015_08_02_165200.jpg

Gnyevko doesn't approve of our actions.
2015_08_02_165219.jpg

Gnievko.jpg
- We should mind our own business, Burlak. This is a job for soldiers.
Gorky.jpg
- We can handle these machines better than any soldier. Only a coward would do nothing. You are not a coward, are you?
Touche. :salute:

We run into an American scout, and soon the bulk of their force is upon us. Thankfully, we have the foresight to fall back a bit so that Belkov's team could cover us from his position above while being relatively safe from enemy fire themselves.
2015_08_02_165443.jpg

Together, we make short work of enemy soldiers even despite their superior skills. The tanks take a beating, but they are designed for that, and the soldiers' armaments are not very effective against them. I only need to micromanage them a bit so that the enemy couldn't concentrate their fire on one target.
2015_08_02_165526.jpg

We set the captured tank on fire and force the driver out. Turns out he is a much better soldier than a mechanic. That explains why Americans didn't do much with the vehicle.
2015_08_02_165541.jpg

And he finally falls, too. A flawless victory!
2015_08_02_165548.jpg

We park our vehicles near the ridge and try to fix the burning tank so that we can capture it back. Burlak heads straight for Belkov who is still afraid to come down by himself. :M
2015_08_02_165615.jpg

Belkov.jpg
- I am very glad to see you Burlak!
Gorky.jpg
- I cannot say the same for you, Belkov. Every time we meet, you are in deep shit!
Belkov.jpg
- Thank you Burlak. You have saved my life.
Gorky.jpg
- We’ve still got to get back! (into radio) Lieutenant Gorky reporting to L. P. Beria. The American forces in this area were eliminated and we've made contact with comrade lieutenant Belkov. We have also managed to recapture our vehicle.
Platonov.jpg
- Very well, comrade.

Belkov is a Russian version of corp. Cyrus. Whiny, talkative, seemingly incompetent and always in some kind of trouble, but you won't find a more loyal companion. In fact, if Macmillan defects for the Alliance in the American campaign, Belkov is the first Russian soldier he meets, implying that he followed Gorky even against the perceived interests of his country. Oh, and he also loses his way, misses a rendez vous point, and has Russian gatling tanks on his tail. Burlak is right, the lad is the definition of 'never lucky'.

We may be heroes, but nobody canceled our previous objective of charting the map.
2015_08_02_165941.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- This slope is too steep for these vehicles. The wheels are losing grip.
Kovalyuk.jpg
- Yes, tracks would be better, if we had a way to build them.
Gnievko.jpg
- What can we do? We have to leave that area uncharted and explain this to comrade Kurin.
Gorky.jpg
- No! Forget about the vehicles. We can explore on foot. Get out. It’s time for walkies.

Gnyevko never fails to disappoint. :decline:

After we explore the map, we can finally return to our base. We ignore the eastern bunkers on our way back. We could take them out, but we've shown enough initiative for today.
2015_08_02_170018.jpg

Victory!
2015_08_02_170117.jpg

Mission Accomplished.
+ No losses.
+ Belkov saved.
- You were too reckless in your attack.

Unfortunately, we don't get the medal for showing proper initiative, as our actions were deemed too reckless by the high command.:M

And the obligatory level-up screen. I want to develop Burlak as I did Macmillan - a jack of all trades with an emphasis on his primary profession and science.
2015_08_02_170156.jpg
What the choices in this mission were for:
- If we requested permission to attack as the Major ordered us to, we'd get that medal and additional xp.
- If we requested reinforcements when attacking the Western base, we would have convinced Platonov that our position was perfect and got two additional soldiers from L.P. Beria to assist us.
- If we cleared the Western American Base, we could get reinforcements to help Belkov, otherwise the path to them would be deemed too dangerous for the infantry to cross.
- Colonel Kurin cares only for the safety of his men, so as long as you save Belkov, you are on his good side. However, if you failed to contact the base properly and let Belkov's men die, you might have heard a few chosen harsh words.
- If you don't attack American fortifications yourself but return to base and report your findings, you will be given a few soldiers and an order to clear the area. I don't know if you still get the medal, though, as there is one more failure state for being too careful and not showing initiative at all.
- If you take too long to reach Belkov, the Americans will send a hit squad (with 7 to 8 soldiers) to wipe them out. One time I took both American bases out before rushing to aid our men, and their squad showed up right after I spoke to Belkov when my drivers were still repairing the vehicles after the fight. They have one-shotted Kovalyuk before realizing that something is wrong (like how their target is no longer alone and there are 3 enemy vehicles parked near the ridge) and running off the map, leaving me with a dead driver and a WTF expression. This is just the first of the bullshit GOTCHA moments that the game throws at you in the Russian campaign.

Oh, and just a snippet from our possible future due to the choices we've taken:

Arrest
You were arrested for the theft of socialist property.

Platonov.jpg
- You have no respect for your commanders, comrade Gorky. This will not be tolerated. You are under arrest.

Thanks, Azira! :salute::salute::salute:

I was a conscript. A good one, though I wasted no opportunity to rail against being conscripted. Left the army a lieutenant though, so I guess they saw some worth in me.
That was more than 10 years ago though. Lot of water has been passed since.

Kurin? Yeah, no. Platonov? Abso-fucking-lutely.
If any Major Lieutenant Sergeant could issue court-martialling orders over the head of their Colonel, there would not have been an army. :M

Kurin is Platonov's commander and therefore the bigger boss here.

Death by a bulldozer. I will not settle for less after being denied to personally shoot Powell in the American campaign! :argh::argh::argh:

Alright. I think I owe everybody an update, even if it is a small one.

Mission 3. Wipeout.
2015_09_03_221250.jpg

S. M. Kirov; May 1, 2 NR
Burlak has now adjusted to his new life. Russian superiority is evident; they have more personnel, better kit and more resources. It is only a question of time before the Americans are wiped out.

Colonel Kurin is quite happy with us, since we rescued his men in the last mission.
2015_09_03_225207.jpg

Kurin.jpg
- So, you proved yourself quite a commander, heh lad?
Belkov.jpg
- I would like to thank comrade Burlak again for his help.
Kurin.jpg
- Humble also! Now, comrade Burlak, we are going to avail ourselves of your skills once again. We have opened a path to the main Yankee base in this sector, Omicron. We shall use this for attack, but we shall need better vehicles this time, and more of them. Comrade Burlak, I depend on you to upgrade production in L. P. Beria.
Gorky.jpg
- Comrade colonel, in order to produce more vehicles we will need more oil. There is no rig in L. P. Beria.
Kurin.jpg
- (a beat) Not everything in life comes on a plate, comrade Burlak. You must locate an oil deposit west of your position and establish a base there. You will name it in honour of late comrade L. M. Kaganovich. Are you capable of this?
Gorky.jpg
- Certainly comrade colonel. Then once we have oil we can transport to L. P. Beria and proceed with construction there. Is this right?
Kurin.jpg
- Careful, comrade Burlak, you are beginning to think for yourself!
Kurin is easily one of my favorite commanders on the Russian side. However, our lovey-dovey chat is rudely interrupted by one of the lieutenants.
Popov.jpg
- Comrade colonel, we have observed movement of American forces, from East to West.
Kurin.jpg
- This will interfere with our plans! Comrade Burlak, before proceeding further you must prevent these reinforcements from reaching Omicron. This is very high priority. You understand me, heh?
Gorky.jpg
- Yes, comrade colonel!
Kurin.jpg
- Good boy. Major Platonov has been transferred to other duties so for this operation you will be commander of L. P. Beria. For this purpose you are promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
A promotion, and no Platonov this time! Christmas came early this year!
Gorky.jpg
- Thank you, comrade!
Kurin.jpg
- Take your comrades from Beria and some from Kirov. You may choose your team but you will need at least one scientist. Soldiers are not the best at determining the presence of oil. Get on with it now.

Choosing the comrades for the mission. I picked two talented soldiers and a scientist. I have left most of the veterans (if you could call it that with just two missions completed) - Balei, Saseda and Belkov - with colonel Kurin. Just wanted to try someone else for a change, I guess.
2015_09_03_221654.jpg

Alright. We begin pretty much just where we finished last time - in L.P. Beria. Bases can be transferred between the missions, as we've seen in the American campaign.
2015_09_03_221905.jpg

This is where the rape starts, and it does not let go until mission 8 and probably later. This mission is incredibly hard to get right on first try (i.e. without reloads), for multiple reasons. Stick with me and you'll find them out as I step on all the rakes. :salute:

First things first, I change everyone into engineers, pick up some crates from the depot, and go scout that oil deposit the colonel mentioned.
2015_09_03_222014.jpg

It is rather hard to miss.
2015_09_03_222126.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- (into radio) Lieutenant Burlak calling S. M. Kirov. We’ve discovered the oil deposits.
Kurin_radio.jpg
- (over radio) Good, lad. You see I was right to give you second chance. But don’t sit idle comrade, construct a base nearby.

Already on it! :salute:
2015_09_03_222452.jpg

I am not sure whether I am doing things correctly here (it would probably be best to build the base on the other side of the slope to facilitate resourse exchange between the bases - but that's how I used to do it eight years ago, and old habits die hard.

I have brought just enough crates to build a bunker and an armory to protect our new acquisitions.
2015_09_03_234333.jpg

While building the new base, I hear teleportation sounds all around us. Indeed, when we grab our first two barrels of oil and get back to Beria, my people happily comment on finding crates lying everywhere (on the screenshot below they are to the right of the speaker, hidden behind the trees).
2015_09_03_222821.jpg

I have enough of them to upgrade my laboratory to Weapons Lab.
2015_09_03_222928.jpg

And I send one of my soldiers to watch over the second base. Bunkers and armories are fine and dandy, but they won't defend anything by themselves.
2015_09_03_223624.jpg

Just as I decide to dedicate our time to developing new and exciting weapons, I hear another materialization boom. Except this one is not about crates.
2015_09_03_223650.jpg

Shultze_radio.jpg
- What the hell went wrong? Where is everybody? Professor Scholtze calling Eagle, does anybody read me? I should never have trusted Pristavkin, he’s less of a physicist than Uri Geller!
Gorky.jpg
- Don't panic, comrade professor. The TAWAR doesn’t work quite as we expected but all is fine. Stay in the forest, and keep hidden. There are many Yanks close by but we will get you out quick as we can.

Secondary objectives received:
- Try to save professor Scholtze. You might need him later.

The professor is happy to follow our advice and runs for the trees. He is pretty high level, compared to us scrubs. Hopefully, he'll be alright.
2015_09_03_223728.jpg

We'd better hurry, though. The only armory I have is in the second base, and that's all across the map.
2015_09_03_223828.jpg

Done! A rescue team of 4 soldiers and a scientist. 1 soldier still left to watch the oil rig. We have to keep our priorities straight.
2015_09_03_225017.jpg

I spy with my little eye... Sorry, professor, but we are taking a detour. Our objective is to intercept the American reinforcements, and he is such a perfect target!
2015_09_03_223956.jpg

Surprise, motherfucker! Didn't expect to get ambushed 10 meters away from your own base, did you? Pretty cocky, walking all alone in these parts!
2015_09_03_224008.jpg

Uh, all alone except for two pals who are now aware of our presence and took a detour of their own...
2015_09_03_224025.jpg

Oops! Doesn't look like the old professor can outrun them.

We drop one, but the other still has the last laugh as he empties the magazine into the helpless man.
2015_09_03_224035.jpg

Shultze.jpg
- Please! Don’t shoot, I am civilian...
Amer1.jpg
- (in English) Wonder what he's saying, Jack.
Amer2.jpg
- Who cares? He said it in Russian.
Shultze.jpg
- Nooooooo!
Kwans, shooting nuclear physicists since prehistoric era because those say complicated stuff they don't understand. :kwanzania:

Gorky.jpg

- Nooooooo!
And so it continues.
Okay. That never happened. :M
2015_09_05_200425.jpg

And thus, Professor Scholtze was saved! Though he got a bit damaged in the process...
Shultze.jpg
- Thank you comrades. Without you I'd be dead.
No need to thank me professor, I am a competent commander and I know of your importance. I would never do something as careless as let myself be distracted while the future of SCIENCE! is on the line. :M

- You’re worth a little effort comrade professor. Your expertise will be very useful.
Shultze.jpg
- I am ready to start work as soon as you get me to a lab comrade.

Let's take a look at where those guys were heading, first.
2015_09_05_200539.jpg

Uh, on second though, forget it. Bad idea. The others readily agree.
Gnievko.jpg
- Are we doing the right thing, Burlak? We don't have orders and we don't have any support from S. M. Kirov.
Gorky.jpg
- This is true, Semyon. We had better return.

Well, since we've already got interrupted, let's use this as an opportunity to transfer more oil to L.P. Beria.
2015_09_05_200656.jpg

The thing about oil is that you need it for a lot of things. Vehicles require fuel, and oil power plants require it to produce energy. If you don't have an oil rig in the base, your supplies will steadily dwindle. Americans could bypass this problem by utilizing Solar Power, but we do not have that luxury:
Gorky.jpg
- Without power our factory will be useless. We must build a power plant.
Shultze.jpg
- What about solar power? It would save transporting oil from the eastern base.
Gorky.jpg
- To beat the Yanks, we need tanks that are bigger, stronger and faster. These require energy which only oil will provide.

Alright, here's the power plant. Everything is set to get out Gatling Weaponry research under way.
2015_09_05_200745.jpg

The facilities consume power at a certain speed, which is a constant, but only when they are in use. The more people you have working in a facility simultaneously, the faster you are done with the task, and the less is the drain on your resourses. That's not something that comes up all too often, but when it does, it is something to consider.

Leaving a lone sentry in L.M. Kaganovich pays off as they notice one of the reinforcements we are supposed to stop.
2015_09_05_213901.jpg

Randomguy.jpg
- The Yanks are on the move. Time for us to stop them.
Gnievko.jpg
- How do we attack them? Using vehicles, which are mobile but expensive or the bunkers which are cheaper and static. Either way is not going to be easy.
Gorky.jpg
- Leave it to me, Semyon.

We seem to have already made that choice in favor of immobile defences - especially considering that my chosen strategy didn't leave me much time to produce a single tank. Either way, it's just two guys for now - well-trained, sure, but nothing to be concerned about. A single soldier in a bunker can easily take them out.
2015_09_05_234722.jpg

Meanwhile, we finally upgrade our workshop and get a new set of objectives.
2015_09_05_201149.jpg

Unfortunately, the gatling tanks cost 60 crates and 30 oil - and that's without considering the oil cost of producing enough power for the factory - which we don't have that many of. That means we'll have to go on resourse collecting duty.
2015_09_05_201350.jpg

However, here is when I encounter a second wave of reinforcements, barely a couple of minutes after the first one. And this time they have vehicles with them. I am not too sure one bunker would be enough, so I have the slowest engineer who haven't gone too far from the base yet put down the oil barrel and get his ass to the armory to provide fire support.
2015_09_05_201429.jpg

Unfortunately for me, the guy turns out to be a good scientist, but a lousy soldier. He drops their medic but is quickly piled upon, as he is a much more vulnerable target than the bunker.
2015_09_05_201547.jpg

I try to pull him away, but it is just my luck that the last shot from a dying soldier grazes him and puts him into a critical state. And the nearest scientist is in another base. Bloody hell!
2015_09_05_201609.jpg

As he lays there dying, I send Burlak and Gnyevko to aid L.M. Kaganovich. Burlak as a medic, to heal our guy, and Gnyevko as a mechanic to capture and repair the enemy vehicle once we are done with the soldiers. We have our objective, but it doesn't specify that we should be the ones building the machinery. :M
2015_09_05_201716.jpg

Alright, soldiers are down and Gorky made it just in time. Things are looking up.
2015_09_05_201734.jpg

We have to abandon the bunker, though. There is only so much punishment it can take. Fortunately, the enemy gatling tank is not much sturdier. Gnyevko makes a run for it while our guys mow down the driver.
2015_09_05_201850.jpg

Success! We have our first vehicle, and quite a good one, too - tracked and oil-powered. All that is left is to repair the damage, heal up and get our own production in order.
2015_09_05_201921.jpg

I leave Gnyevko to patrol the ridge in his new acquisition, though. I don't think we've seen the last of the Americans yet.

Alright, we have the oil, we have the crates, and we have the technology. Time to put the theory to work!
2015_09_05_202325.jpg

Sadly, I only have enough for two medium-wheeled gatling tanks before I have to resort to gathering crates again. This stuff is expensive!
2015_09_05_202746.jpg

But we only have so much time before Semyon raises the alarm. It's the third wave of reinforcements, and it is the strongest one yet - with two vehicles this time!
2015_09_05_203045.jpg

I rush everyone to Kaganovich. We are out of oil, so I needed to get there sooner or later anyway.
2015_09_05_203104.jpg

Once we reach the armory, it is time for Semyon to retreat. He drops a soldier on the way back. Man, those gatling guns are something.
2015_09_05_203157.jpg

Six soldiers make short work of everything. However, the second American vehicle refuses to get in range, so we must go hunt it down personally. That's a bit risky, considering that it, too, has a gatling gun. The scientist guy, whom I didn't have time to properly heal since the last attack, wisely decides not to involve himself with this (he won't be of much help anyway), and instead steals another vehicle.
2015_09_05_203431.jpg

The enemy puts some pressure on my troops, so I have to move the ones it concentrates on deeper into the base, and what do I find there?
2015_09_05_203458.jpg

Another wave of reinforcements that seems to have lost their way. Are you serious, game!?

Well, they don't look too scary. An engineer and a medic. I bet we can take them out with two vehicles while most of our infantry are tied down by a gatling one...
2015_09_05_203516.jpg

Nope, they have soldiers as well! And of course they concentrate their fire on a weaker target! Remember that the game tracks the damage of vehicles and drivers separately? Well, the armor holds, but our already wounded scientist loses consciousness and falls out of a perfectly working tank to bleed out in a ditch. And now there are no scientists/medics in another base (since I brought everyone to defend), and there is no laboratory in this one. How does he manage that?
2015_09_05_203613.jpg

I believe that these are the reinforcements that were coming from east to west (like the ones that stumbled upot Scholtze) that got lost due to faulty pathfinding. Sometimes they have a vehicle with them. You can imagine what they can do if you find them in a bad moment - like when you are transporting oil barrels with your completely defenceless engineers. And an escort of a pair of soldiers won't be enough to help against them, not to mention that you can't afford to have idle hands (in case they don't show up) with the number of people you have. It is yet another of those 'Gotcha!' situations the game throws at you that can result in an instant game over.

I pull all the soldiers to quickly murder everybody (the wounded enemies in critical condition still prevent your vehicles from passing through) and sent Gnyevko to the Lab on the double. Maybe the vehicle would give him enough speed to come there and back again in time. I prefer to think he simply drove over the dying enemy soldiers.
2015_09_05_203653.jpg

Whew! That was disturbingly close. I order Kovalyuk to drive the trophies to L.P. Beria as Gnyevko gets the loser back on his feet.
2015_09_05_203849.jpg

Back at the base. No time to heal. I've marathoned this mission to the best of my abilities and I am still behind schedule. I build five tanks before I run out of time.
2015_09_05_204022.jpg

Kurin_radio.jpg
- This is S. M. Kirov calling Beria. How are you doing comrade Burlak? Are you ready for attack yet? Have you plenty of vehicles now boy?

2015_09_05_204326.jpg

We've only produced five, and we have 7 men. However, we also captured 3 enemy ones, so I guess we have a surplus.
Gorky.jpg
- Yes, comrade Kurin. We have surplus vehicles for you.
Kurin_radio.jpg
- You never let me down comrade Gorky!. I'll send drivers for your vehicles and we shall begin the attack at once.

That's a serious force they are sporting.
2015_09_05_204423.jpg

And this is where we are supposed to meet. Pretty straightforward.
2015_09_05_204438.jpg

However, we have enough resourses to make the sixth gatling tank - let's make it a big one.
2015_09_05_204513.jpg

:yeah:
Gorky will be driving that personally. Big tanks for big people!

Also, see the two guys standing inthe center of the base looking stupid. That's the drivers Kurin has sent. We have to leave them a pair of tanks, or the colonel will be angry we lied about the surplus machines.

By the way, remember the bunkers on the eastern ridge in the last mission? I've never cleared the area, so they are still there and firing at our people. :argh:
2015_09_05_204531.jpg

Choices and consequences. At least they can't seriously damage anything unless we actually engage them.

One last chance to repair, patch everyone up, and choose the professions before going to battle. I leave Scholtze and Mr. Unlucky as scientists - I might need a good medic if my drivers get in a pinch.
2015_09_05_204748.jpg

Before we go, though, there is one last surprise the game has to offer. Ambush!
2015_09_05_225349.jpg

Somebody needs to tell these guys that ambushing seven gatling tanks and who knows what else with 3 soldiers is not the best of ideas. Oh, well, good target practice, though.
2015_09_05_225511.jpg

At last! We. Are. Ready. TO RRRRRRUMBLE!!!
2015_09_05_225625.jpg

Gorky.jpg
- Lieutenant Burlak reporting, comrade colonel. The enemy base is in sight.
Kurin_radio.jpg
- Well done, Gorky. Coordinate your attack with ours. Fire at will.
The Russian forces have assembled for their first decisive strike. Who will survive? Who will fall? Find out in the next episode: Attack on Omicron! :bounce::bounce::bounce:
