Giggles.

After Silent Storm, we can grit our teeth with UFO Afterlight.
Grit your teeth some more with Brigade E5 and 7.62 High Caliber.

Apart from Fallout Tactics 2, I am having some faint hopes that Space Hulk Ascension Edition will be decent.
But that's Full Control, they only do mediocre.

Telepath Tactics maybe? It has the systems and the modding of a Fire Emblem bastard, it just needs a community do-over.

Valkyria Chronicles? Possibly because it's a bit too restrictive if you want to get the highest award. Note the games mentioned: they are pretty much free flows, and tactics can be free. You can have wasted actions. But main point of VC gameplay is more like optimization of chain of orders. You dont really have room to experiment, especially on PS3 where reload can be a paiin in the butt.

And it's hard to call VC "gun porn".

Thankfully I don't give a fuck about gun porn so Blackguards 2 is a game I can look forward to but otherwise I'm right there with lac.

There is serious need for Chaos Gate 2 and MechCommander 3...

Don't you get it? Laclongquan only wants the best game ever, tailored to his exact specificatiosn and tastes, delivered to him on a silver platter without having to do any work.
Wait, is that not what everyone here wants?
Dont forget, it must be moddable. I want to monkey around the codes to my heart content.

And it makes easier for modders to fix it. Where would we be if we can not mod JA2, right?

The earliest of time we have Jagged Alliance 1.

Corrected.
Objection overrule! JA2 got a supportive community after all those years. Where are the JA1's mods?

If console games are acceptable, give Operation Darkness a shot.

It's not as simulationist as I would like, but it's quite fun.

Warhammer 40K Squad Command on the PSP was also pretty decent (if incredibly easy).

Ummmm~ XBOX360 is no go. Messing with my brother's unused unit is just too much work. Imm try the PSSPP thingy with WH40K.

Getting into Ring of Red. It's a pretty fun mecha game.
Preview analysis:

-Pro: real mecha. Giant machine stalks the earth. Shooting cannon, machinegun, etc.. with infantry escorts. soldiers with distinctive skills point and stat bonus. Political reimagining, kinda like Fallout series. Because it's in a warzone so the feeling is pretty desolate, like a post apocalypse.

-Con: My shitty PC can barely emulate it. Triple speed hack, then turn off the sound. Also, i dont mind the political rambles, but i can see how that can turn off many potential players. Damn things are too close to real history, so it might strike people in the raw nerves. Korean war in the form of jap war.

The problem is that somebody making something like JA2 would require an unusual gathering of extraordinary talent that you cannot get without extreme luck or lots of money.
I remind how great the parts were in the Sirtech games. The voice actors are now working in film productions. Kevin Manthey makes film music. Etc.
But if new TBS games are only made by 3rd rate guys make games you get substitute drugs, something like Xenonauts, Flashback etc that looks ok but is no fun, but has as much attraction as sleeping with a man.

Recent gunporn? Apeiron's games. Not turnbased but it's best example of RTwP that not sux. And guns, lot of guns.

UFO Aftershock? Not turnbased and not gunporn.

Wasn't the main reason JA2 had such a good combat, that they were in contact with a lot of gun nuts that gave them a lot of suggestions?
