If I don't get updates faster, I'm going to start writing fanfiction for this LP.

Sorry, Harlequin or other crappy fanfiction are not welcomed...
I would say that the distinction between 'fanfiction' and crappy 'fanfiction' is superficial, if not for the fact that I've done more than my fair share of FF writing back in the day. Besides, this LP is basically a type of fanfiction too.

My point was - I doubt that someone - who use threat to force someone (adults with real life?) - could make at least average fanfiction.
Actually - it must be really bad (for our sanity or else) if his "creations" is a weapon here, in this case.

Ah, screw it, just enjoy beatiful weather.

I thought it was implicitly obvious that most people here are adults with real lives, and that my comment would be interpreted as it is, a somewhat humorous to outright hilarious expression of me liking this LP and desire to see new updates without expressly stating so within the comment, and without consequential assumptions about my writing skills.

Last time on Let's Insane Solo Baldur's Gate 2:

bg2_up27_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Stupid bitch had it coming.

So, where exactly did we finish off last time?

codex_10.jpg
We're done with Trademeet and able to move on to something else.

What? Already? I don't quite remember it being so short. Whatever, I guess.

------

Update #28: Dragon Quest, part I - An Offer We Could Not Refuse

But before we leave, there is a couple of interesting items for us to buy here.

bg2_up28_001.jpg

We finally replace Cloak of Non-Detection (although we will keep it in the wolfskin bag for now), with this one. This improves our saving throws, as well as providing a substantial bonus to AC vs. missiles. That last thing is needed because we also get rid of the Girdle of Piercing (+3 AC bonus vs. missiles), which is being replaced by...

bg2_up28_002.jpg

50% resistance vs. magic damage is not too shabby, and while it would be cool to have +7 AC vs. missiles (Cloak of Displacement and Girdle of Piercing), having a +4 bonus as well as 25% missile damage resistance is not bad either. +5 to saves against breath weapons is just a bonus.

codex_10.jpg
I don't even remember the last time I fought any formidabble oponent using a breath weapon and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

To break any false suspense in advance, we will be fighting a dragon soon.

codex_10.jpg
Oh.

bg2_up28_003.jpg

We also buy a couple of spells.

bg2_up28_004.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No more of being pounded to death by troll fists.

bg2_up28_005.jpg

No saving throw, no HP limit on target. This spell will disable any mage for seven rounds.

bg2_up28_006.jpg

Our hero promptly learns both of the above.

bg2_up28_007.jpg

The Codex will soon be a level 17 Thief. Also, we probably won't be seeing dual fighter/mage level ups any more.

bg2_up28_008.jpg

Trademeet quests have improved The Codex' reputation significantly.

codex_10.jpg
I also got a badass statue.

bg2_up28_009.jpg

These saving throws are kind of ridiculous now. As they should be.

codex_10.jpg
I'm just too good to be true.

bg2_up28_010.jpg

Some nice resistances.

bg2_up28_011.jpg

Kangaxx is still the top dog kill. I wonder if this will change after our dragon-slaying endavour.

bg2_up28_012.jpg

Lord Jierdan has an offer for us, if we wish to hear it.

codex_10.jpg
Let me guess, he wants us to kill a dragon?

He is the dragon.

codex_10.jpg
He certainly does not look like one.

They can shapeshift.

codex_10.jpg
I think you're mistaking dragons with those gangbanging reptiles from the first game.

You'll see.

bg2_up28_013.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Flattery will get you nowhere. Well, ok, maybe it will.

bg2_up28_014.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Trolls? Not again... I'll pass.

Don't believe his lies.

bg2_up28_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
10 000 gold? I will gladly help you, my friend. Just show me to these trolls, and I will get right on it.

bg2_up28_016.jpg

Windspear Hills appear on our map after the conversation with Lord Dragon Jierdan.

bg2_up28_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Not these guys again...

bg2_up28_018.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Paranormal Activity!

bg2_up28_019.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And done.

bg2_up28_020.jpg

codex_10.jpg
My lies will do what now?

Obviously, this being a Bioware game, we are not able to choose a non-stupid path if writers don't feel like it.

bg2_up28_021.jpg

Casting True Sight does nothing too.

codex_10.jpg
Could you explain me why I am casting true sight instead of defending myself while BEING KILLED!?

bg2_up28_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
This will be your fault, you know. Don't bother answering, I think I've just lost hearing from blood loss.

bg2_up28_023.jpg

Truly unfortunate.

Death Count: 150

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
You owe me this one.

bg2_up28_024.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'll kill you dead!

bg2_up28_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Relax, take it eaeaeaeaeasy...

bg2_up28_026.jpg

Even slowed down, the paladins ogres and stuff beat the living shit out of our hero. We are forced to cast Mirror Image.

bg2_up28_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mwahahahaha, slaughter!

bg2_up28_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Um, oops?

bg2_up28_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
So, I killed some knights. Why is that bad, exactly?

bg2_up28_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I would like to see them try...

bg2_up28_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And they didn't even have the decency to drop any decent loot. Typical.

bg2_up28_033.jpg

Killing these knights allowed The Codex to level up as a Thief (makes no sense, but hey: D&D), boosting his Set Traps skill to 78, and achieving even better saving throws.

bg2_up28_034.jpg

Exploring the area, we encounter this charming scene.

Let's skip the dialogue, moving straight to the part when the 'fighters' turn into werewolves.

bg2_up28_035.jpg

bg2_up28_036.jpg

bg2_up28_037.jpg

bg2_up28_038.jpg

bg2_up28_039.jpg

codex_10.jpg
OMG, Twilight joke opportunity.

bg2_up28_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I love the smell of burnt dog fur in the morning... No, wait... Actually, it is quite awful.

bg2_up28_041.jpg

Anyway, these are just standard basic werewolves. No match for our hero.

codex_10.jpg
They managed to bite me a little. Will I turn into a werewolf now at full moon?

It doesn't work that way. Haven't you read The Dresden Files?

bg2_up28_042.jpg

Next up we are attacked by some monsters with sprites ripped straight from Icewind Dale.

bg2_up28_043.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They are such pushovers, it hurts.

bg2_up28_047.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, hello there, lady!

bg2_up28_048.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I am not one of the pretty men? I know I only have like 10 Charisma, but it still hurts!

bg2_up28_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Any reward for the not-so-pretty man? No? Damn ingrates.

bg2_up28_052.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Luckily, there is always someone to unload my frustrations on.

bg2_up28_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Orkheart! Much better than bullzeye, IMO.

bg2_up28_054.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, it's been a while since I last fought a bear.

bg2_up28_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And it's been a much longer while since they were a threat.

bg2_up28_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, it really sucks to be you, Gaelen.

bg2_up28_045.jpg

codex_10.jpg
He seems pretty butthurt.

bg2_up28_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Is Firkraag the dragon?

Yup.

codex_10.jpg
Let's go then.

bg2_up28_056.jpg

Moving inside, we are immediately ambushed.

codex_10.jpg
Please... They're hobgoblins. Hardly an ambush.

bg2_up28_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Silk!

That was one silly movie.

bg2_up28_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There seems to be some kind of misunderstanding in the hobgoblins' ranks.

Why do you care?

codex_10.jpg
I'm curious. It's never happened before.

bg2_up28_059.jpg

Hobgoblins who have not escaped are killed.

bg2_up28_060.jpg

And we meet another bunch a few steps further...

codex_10.jpg
Oh, joy.

bg2_up28_061.jpg

We cast a Fire Ball just for shits and giggles.

bg2_up28_062.jpg

codex_10.jpg
The note was titled 'Firkraag's challenge'. This is no challenge at all.

bg2_up28_063.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I recall fighting these guys before, and not liking them, but can't remember why.

bg2_up28_064.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, wait, now I remember.

bg2_up28_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I've just chopped a mist into tiny pieces of meat. I bet you weren't aware that is even possible.

Because it isn't?

codex_10.jpg
My awesomeness reaches beyond reality and kicks it right in the ass.

bg2_up28_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Crimson death. Now that is a cool monster name.

bg2_up28_067.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I've killed death. 'nuff said.

bg2_up28_068.jpg

Some loot.

bg2_up28_069.jpg

Tiny stash with an almost worthless ring in it. Why, Bioware, why?

bg2_up28_070.jpg

codex_10.jpg
First hobgoblins and now ogrillons? Are we feeling retro today?

bg2_up28_071.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I am kind of expecting kobolds next. Also, mwahahahaha-slaughter.

bg2_up28_072.jpg

I am kind of surprised there was not yet a game when you play as scimitar-wielding anthropomorphic tiger. Seems like a no-brainer.

bg2_up28_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You're not serious.

I am!

codex_10.jpg
I meant the kobolds.

bg2_up28_074.jpg

Our hero explodes one of the Kamikaze Kobolds, causing a chain reaction. Ruhk gets burned.

bg2_up28_075.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's finish him.

bg2_up28_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WTF.

For some reason, Ruhk Transmuter turns out to be immune both to normal and +1 arrows.

bg2_up28_077.jpg

But he is not immune to being whacked repeatedly in the head.

bg2_up28_078.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Oh, I will just wear a ring of 40% fire resistance. This should make me totally safe from my exploding kobolds, right?'

bg2_up28_079.jpg

There's no screenshot, but we're done with this area. Time to head deeper, through this door here.

bg2_up28_080.jpg

It's a trap!

codex_10.jpg
Well, I'm invisible, so they can go fuck themselves.

bg2_up28_081.jpg

Not being in a hurry, we detect the hidden doors to the side rooms containing archers.

bg2_up28_083.jpg

And murder them all without problems.

bg2_up28_084.jpg

On both sides.

bg2_up28_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh fuck, it's Cherno Alpha!

bg2_up28_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
urk

bg2_up28_087.jpg

Roll credits.

Death Count: 151

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
I'm not fighting that without some sort of unfair advantage.

I'll see what I can do.

bg2_up28_088.jpg

Let's try with the smaller ones first.

bg2_up28_089.jpg

We manage to destroy one Stone Golem just in time when another one enters the room.

bg2_up28_090.jpg

A combination of tactical retreat and potion chugging allows The Codex to survive the crisis.

bg2_up28_091.jpg

Although barely.

bg2_up28_092.jpg

We find a good spot to poke the Adamantite Golem with a stick, while being out of range of its attacks.

codex_10.jpg
Perfect.

bg2_up28_093.jpg

Eventually, it falls.

Some minor plot details ahead.

bg2_up28_094.jpg

bg2_up28_095.jpg

bg2_up28_096.jpg

bg2_up28_097.jpg

bg2_up28_098.jpg

bg2_up28_099.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Scream away, I don't mind.

bg2_up28_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mwahahahaha, slaughter!

bg2_up28_101.jpg

There are some more orcs here, but we do away with them quickly.

bg2_up28_103.jpg

Here's the promised troll.

bg2_up28_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, he's actually trolling me. Or maybe it's a she?

Better not to know.

codex_10.jpg
True enough.

bg2_up28_105.jpg

codex_10.jpg
'Boys?'

bg2_up28_106.jpg

The troll gets unexpected hobgoblin reinforcements.

bg2_up28_107.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Helped it a lot. Not.

bg2_up28_108.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ah, fuck. That wizard has to go, and fast.

bg2_up28_109.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There!

The pesky wizard still manages to burn our hero with Agannazar's Scorcher before dying.

bg2_up28_110.jpg

Without caster support, the rest of the hobgoblins is no threat, of course.

bg2_up28_111.jpg

We find some magical arrows and Bioware-funny book.

bg2_up28_112.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ah, fuck.

bg2_up28_113.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Wow, this was surprisingly easy.

bg2_up28_114.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Underground vampires!

bg2_up28_115.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What do you mean 'weapon ineffective'? It's magical!

bg2_up28_116.jpg

A second vampire joins the party. We cast Protection From Normal Weapons.

bg2_up28_117.jpg

It doesn't help.

codex_10.jpg
Oh gods, it's the Cullen family!

bg2_up28_118.jpg

I still think that the later Anne Rice vampire books were even worse than Twilight.

Death Count: 152

Load.

codex_10.jpg
That's a lot of fucking vampires.

We'll manage.

bg2_up28_119.jpg

Mummies and Vampires. We must have interrupted a game of Blood Bowl.

bg2_up28_120.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I've got you now, sucker!

Ouch. But yeah, we lure one vampire away from the rest.

bg2_up28_121.jpg

The Codex almost gets killed anyway.

bg2_up28_122.jpg

The mummy waits right outside the door, like in a bad horror movie.

bg2_up28_123.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No biggie.

bg2_up28_124.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see what you'll say to some +2 arrows.

bg2_up28_125.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Inconceivable!

I don't remember vampires being that resilient. Perhaps, I'm getting old.

codex_10.jpg
Or getting stupid. Oh, wait. Too late for that.

bg2_up28_126.jpg

There are still five vampires to deal with.

bg2_up28_127.jpg

We employ suicide bomber tactics...

bg2_up28_128.jpg

...and somehow manage not to die. Although some retreating is necessary.

bg2_up28_129.jpg

codex_10.jpg
One down!

bg2_up28_130.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Your magic won't work on me, fools!

And indeed, it doesn't. Ridiculous saving throws and 25% magic resistance do their job.

bg2_up28_131.jpg

Second vampire croaks. Two to go... I think we've lost one, or I didn't screenshot it dying.

bg2_up28_132.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Almost there.

bg2_up28_133.jpg

The last one turns into a cloud-fog before we manage to kill it. I decide not to reload.

bg2_up28_134.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And yet they keep trying.

bg2_up28_135.jpg

This spell can turn its target into a squirrel. It rarely works but is hilarious when it does.

bg2_up28_136.jpg

In the next room, you encounter a Greater Wraith.

bg2_up28_137.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What's so great about it?

bg2_up28_138.jpg

It seems like we were looking for some key, because we've just found one.

bg2_up28_139.jpg

We will find a use for it in the next update.

---

Next time: The Codex will have to tap into his divine powers to be able to overcome an unexpected challenge.

codex_10.jpg
This sounds pretty cool, but somehow fills me with worry...

Next quest selection details:
Current votes are listed below. The roll will be made after next update.

1. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Erebus]
2. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Rake]

4. Korgan's Quest [Aeschylus]

Maybe you could try out some unothodox tactics/combos to liven things up? Use Shadowkeeper to let The Codex wield more diverse weapons? Just throwing out some ideas to make things more fun for you, and maybe for heckling viewers. Lord knows we don't need another abandoned BG2 LP...
No worries, it won't be abandonded (if only because I need my BG fix from time to time), although I am thinking of changing the format a bit after we enter Throne of Bhaal. We'll see.

vampires require +3 or better weapons to damage in 2nd edition D&D.
I'm not sure I've ever known that. Thanks.

At this point, seeing this LP through to the end would be a 2 year commitment, no one could realistically promise that nothing would happen during that time that would result in an abandoned LP, but fingers crossed.

I vote for temple ruins.

The thing Haer'Dalis and the Prison have going for them is the boots of speed, but the 'dex is broken enough as a character as is. :M

Time to delve deeper down the dragon dungeon.

------

Update #29: Dragon Quest, part II - Deadly Dungeons

bg2_up29_000.jpg

We have found the missing door to the key we've obtained last time.

bg2_up29_001.jpg

We encounter this 100% trustworthy armed scholar behind them.

codex_10.jpg
How exactly did she get here, if the door had been locked?

bg2_up29_002.jpg

bg2_up29_003.jpg

bg2_up29_004.jpg

She gives some dungeon backstory.

bg2_up29_005.jpg

And another key.

codex_10.jpg
What exactly does this dead king have to do with my dragon challenge?

Almost absolutely nothing, it's a sidequest.

codex_10.jpg
Is it profittable?

Maybe?

codex_10.jpg
Good enough.

But first, let's check the other corridor.

bg2_up29_006.jpg

codex_10.jpg
A greater what now?

bg2_up29_007.jpg

It seems that we have encountered a problem.

Death Count: 153

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
The fuck just happened? It didn't die!

Yes, it seems that the wolfwere regenerated faster than you were able deal damage.

codex_10.jpg
Is that even possible?

Wolweres are like that, it's their thing.

codex_10.jpg
What do we do then?

We try again, obviously.

bg2_up29_008.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I am experiencing some really bad feelings at the moment.

bg2_up29_009.jpg

One expeditious retreat later...

codex_10.jpg
Right. Not only I cannot kill it, but it also hits like a truck and is fast as fuck.

Yes.

codex_10.jpg
I need ideas. Give them to me.

bg2_up29_010.jpg

How about we increase Your damage output by casting Improved Haste?

bg2_up29_011.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm getting some mixed results here.

Keep fighting, You're doing great!

codex_10.jpg
Your sense of humour is very odd sometimes.

bg2_up29_012.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes, it panicked!

This is actually bad. You are too hurt to grab a bow while the pet wolf is trying to bite Your nuts off. Also, Improved Haste has run out.

codex_10.jpg
Oh, fuck.

bg2_up29_013.jpg

Turned out the wolfwere was able to overcome its fear pretty quickly.

Death Count: 154

Load.

codex_10.jpg
Your idea wasn't all that good.

Let's improve it.

bg2_up29_014.jpg

Let's see if the wolwere is able to stand up to an angered AND hasted demigod.

bg2_up29_015.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hell yeah!

bg2_up29_016.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm simply the best!

bg2_up29_017.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh shit, there's another one!

bg2_up29_018.jpg

codex_10.jpg
WHAT!? YET ANOTHER ONE!?

bg2_up29_019.jpg

Actually, pretty sad.

Death Count: 155

Reloading.

codex_10.jpg
How am I supposed to kill two of these things at once? Wait, do they regenerate fire damage?

Yes. We'll have to figure something out.

bg2_up29_020.jpg

But in the meantime, let's try the same thing again.

codex_10.jpg
I hate you so much!

bg2_up29_021.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Dead!

Run, Codex, run!

codex_10.jpg
What the fuck do you think I'm doing?

bg2_up29_022.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuck, that was close!

bg2_up29_023.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Come on, show me what you got!

bg2_up29_024.jpg

We've done it!

codex_10.jpg
I have done it.

Fine.

bg2_up29_025.jpg

codex_10.jpg
An orog? Compared to what I've just lived through, this is rather funny.

bg2_up29_026.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ok, it just stopped being funny.

bg2_up29_027.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I'm not dying again!

bg2_up29_028.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Aha! Fuck off, you piece of junk!

bg2_up29_029.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, no...

bg2_up29_030.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nononono-nono-NO!

bg2_up29_031.jpg

What I dislike most about golems is their immunity to magic.

Death Count: 156

Reload.

codex_10.jpg
What to we do about ED-209?

The usual.

bg2_up29_032.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yo' mama is so fat, that she could eat Gilbert Grape's mother in one bite!

bg2_up29_033.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, look, it brought friends.

Let's kill them first.

bg2_up29_034.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Done.

bg2_up29_035.jpg

codex_10.jpg
And done.

bg2_up29_036.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Orogs in this dungeon are like filler episodes in a tv series.

So deep.

codex_10.jpg
That's what you will also say when I shove this staff up your ass one day.

bg2_up29_037.jpg

We encounter a couple of suspicious individuals.

bg2_up29_038.jpg

Our hero easily outsmarts them.

bg2_up29_039.jpg

Which is not much of feat, considering they are glorified dogs.

codex_10.jpg
You are really asking for it.

bg2_up29_040.jpg

codex_10.jpg
That was easy.

That was a not-greater wolfwere.

codex_10.jpg
Oh.

bg2_up29_041.jpg

This one is.

codex_10.jpg
Yeah, I've noticed.

bg2_up29_042.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I am out of haste and duhm. What now?

We have other means of increasing damage output.

bg2_up29_043.jpg

Like backstabbing.

codex_10.jpg
I like.

bg2_up29_044.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh, fuck.

bg2_up29_045.jpg

We are experiencing technical difficulties, please do not adjust Your monitors.

Death Count: 157

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
I tripped, ok? Fuck off.

I didn't say anything.

codex_10.jpg
Fuck. Off.

bg2_up29_046.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Aha! Now, you're mine!

bg2_up29_047.jpg

We probably should have healed first.

Death Count: 158

Loading the game.

codex_10.jpg
Well, that didn't work.

bg2_up29_048.jpg

Time to put Your newly-acquired trap-setting abilities to good use.

bg2_up29_049.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ouch!

You still need some practice with this, it seems.

codex_10.jpg
Hey, I've never done this before, cut me some slack!

bg2_up29_050.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Die, bitch!

bg2_up29_051.jpg

The two correctly set traps actually manage to kill the wolfwere. Since our hero was furiously running away retreating at that time, autopause did not kick in and we have no proper screenshot. All in all, great success.

bg2_up29_052.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Greater?

Nope.

bg2_up29_053.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Good.

bg2_up29_055.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Hey, I've found a trumpet.

It's a horn.

codex_10.jpg
Looks like a trumpet.

bg2_up29_056.jpg

We listen to some inane dialogue. If some scripted event was supposed to trigger afterwards, it didn't happen.

bg2_up29_057.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What kind of creature would need a door that big?

bg2_up29_058.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oh.

bg2_up29_059.jpg

Seems like the door still is not big enough.

codex_10.jpg
Cry me a river.

bg2_up29_060.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Haa-aa-haa-aa!

You appear to have been slowed down by the golem...

bg2_up29_061.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Oooooohshshshiiiiit...

bg2_up29_062.jpg

It just keeps happening.

Death Count: 159

Load like there's no tomorrow.

codex_10.jpg
Everything happened so fast!

It's more like you were happening very slowly.

bg2_up29_063.jpg

We kill the lesser golems first this time.

bg2_up29_064.jpg

This way disposing of the big one leaves us safe and sound.

bg2_up29_065.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Goodies!

bg2_up29_066.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Once again...

I know, I know. Longbows. We all love them. Let's loot the king's tomb.

bg2_up29_067.jpg

Watch out it's a Fell Ghast.

codex_10.jpg
Meaning?

bg2_up29_068.jpg

Nevermind.

bg2_up29_069.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Something to read.

bg2_up29_070.jpg

I remember using this spell to defeat Kangaxx once. The eye was immune to Imprisonment, so I only had to make sure Kangaxx prioritised it as a target and then killed him from afar with the +5 sling. No idea if this was ever fixed.

bg2_up29_071.jpg

We probably will never be using this spell, but hey, free XP.

bg2_up29_072.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Six guardians? I expect grinding.

You're not wrong. Also, they're annoying.

codex_10.jpg
Wait, wasn't that nice scholar lady looking for a book?

bg2_up29_073.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Apparently it's not the one.

Not meaning to spoil the surprise, but it's the only one.

codex_10.jpg
Oh. Don't tell me, she will try to kill me in the end?

Indeed.

codex_10.jpg
Why do all women I meet do that?

Just wait until Throne of Bhaal.

bg2_up29_074.jpg

The false doors in this maze are trapped.

bg2_up29_075.jpg

More free XP for us.

bg2_up29_076.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I guess I'm not going this way.

bg2_up29_077.jpg

Guardians are non-hostile until The Codex talks to them.

bg2_up29_078.jpg

They become very hostile afterwards.

codex_10.jpg
Was it something I said?

Nah, they're just dicks.

bg2_up29_079.jpg

codex_10.jpg
He disappeared. I hate when they do that!

bg2_up29_080.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let's see how your invisibility helps you with this.

bg2_up29_081.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Serves you right.

bg2_up29_082.jpg

You're suffocating, I think?

codex_10.jpg
I'll manage.

bg2_up29_083.jpg

We have found the first piece of the mask. Five more to go.

bg2_up29_085.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Interesting that you mention rotting with the king...

bg2_up29_086.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Let me help you with that!

bg2_up29_087.jpg

Looks like he responded in fashion. Also, immune to fire.

codex_10.jpg
Fucker!

bg2_up29_088.jpg

What.

Death Count: 160

Loady-loady.

codex_10.jpg
These guardians are even more annoying than regular efreeti.

True.

bg2_up29_089.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FUCK YOUR FUCKING FIRE SHIELD, FUCKER!

bg2_up29_090.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Show yourself!

bg2_up29_091.jpg

codex_10.jpg
FUCKDAMNIT!

bg2_up29_092.jpg

codex_10.jpg
ARGH!

bg2_up29_093.jpg

codex_10.jpg
:yeah:

bg2_up29_094.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What is this I don't even

bg2_up29_095.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There! No fire shields for you!

bg2_up29_096.jpg

codex_10.jpg
No worries, you can live with one kidney.

bg2_up29_097.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You cannot hide from me!

bg2_up29_098.jpg

codex_10.jpg
A-Ha! That went pretty well.

Indeed.

bg2_up29_099.jpg

We hurry up with exploring the dungeon while True Sight lasts.

bg2_up29_100.jpg

codex_10.jpg
What the fuck?

bg2_up29_101.jpg

Beholder named Director casts a bunch of spells on our hero, who responds with some well-placed stick-whacking.

bg2_up29_102.jpg

codex_10.jpg
They could really do away with these traps.

bg2_up29_103.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Whatever.

bg2_up29_104.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ha!

We have a good opening here.

bg2_up29_106.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Aaaah!

But then it goes pretty badly.

bg2_up29_107.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Yes!

The Codex wins the encounter by the skin of his teeth.

bg2_up29_109.jpg

Another Fell Ghast is barely worth mentioning.

bg2_up29_110.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Grr to you too.

bg2_up29_111.jpg

Awkay.

Death Count: 161

The load.

codex_10.jpg
Did we speak about initiating a fight when I'm low on HP?

No?

codex_10.jpg
We should.

bg2_up29_112.jpg

However, we do the same thing again, and emerge victorious. Blind luck for the win.

bg2_up29_113.jpg

The next room proves to be rather hostile.

codex_10.jpg
IT BURNS!

bg2_up29_114.jpg

Let's hope we all learn something from this awful event.

Death Count: 162

Load.

codex_10.jpg
Something invisible attacked me.

We need to complete the mask to see it.

bg2_up29_115.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Can't I just use True Sight?

Maybe?

bg2_up29_116.jpg

codex_10.jpg
There you are!

What do you know, it actually worked.

bg2_up29_117.jpg

codex_10.jpg
I walked through fire but did not get burned!

bg2_up29_118.jpg

Actually, you did.

Death Count: 163

Loading.

codex_10.jpg
I'm sure we can do something to improve my chances here.

Obviously.

bg2_up29_119.jpg

Ruhk Transmuter has shown us the way to deal with nearby explosions.

bg2_up29_120.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Apparently he has a back to stab somewhere inside those flames.

bg2_up29_122.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Fuckyeah!

We should still complete the mask.

codex_10.jpg
Why?

XP.

bg2_up29_123.jpg

Finding the last Guardian takes as a minute, which is not all bad, as The Codex is able to regenerate some damage.

bg2_up29_125.jpg

Long story short, the last guardian is defeated.

bg2_up29_126.jpg

We get some XP and the mask.

bg2_up29_127.jpg

I vaguely remember that wearing this mask allowed the user to see the invisible, even outside this dungeon, but I may be wrong and/or it could have been fixed by modders.

bg2_up29_128.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Well, hello there.

bg2_up29_129.jpg

A shield made of the scale that king Strohm was able to steal from Firkraag before dying of third-degree burns.

codex_10.jpg
How do you know?

Well, the guardians wouldn't shut up about this.

codex_10.jpg
Right. I wasn't really listening.

bg2_up29_130.jpg

And a cool anti-dragon sword, which is useless to us.

bg2_up29_131.jpg

codex_10.jpg
You break my heart, girl.

We are ambushed on the way out.

bg2_up29_132.jpg

The Codex is sourrounded by an enemy party of six. Will our hero overcome the unfavourable odds?

bg2_up29_135.jpg

Nope.

Death Count: 164

Load game.

codex_10.jpg
I probably should prepare myself a bit.

bg2_up29_136.jpg

We cast some buffs and summon the Nishruu before allowing Samia's party to spawn.

nishruu.gif
Magix!

bg2_up29_137.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Bros, fetch me a three-legged octopus!

bg2_up29_138.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Nosferatu!

Confusion spell works better than expected. I'm not sure what happened to the Nishruu. Maybe it has despawned already.

bg2_up29_139.jpg

Confusion, Horror and Web should incapacitate all enemies enough to allow us to deal with them.

bg2_up29_140.jpg

Samia falls first.

bg2_up29_141.jpg

Legdoril is second.

bg2_up29_142.jpg

We add Stinking Cloud to the mix, just in case.

codex_10.jpg
I hate casting this spell on myself.

Don't start whining, you willingly entered Cloud Kill earlier.

codex_10.jpg
Cloudkill makes it hard to breathe. This one stinks like the bottom of kobold shithouse.

bg2_up29_143.jpg

At some point Web works a bit too well.

bg2_up29_144.jpg

Kaol dies.

bg2_up29_145.jpg

Debuffs wear off eventually. The Codex improves his chances by dominating Chak.

codex_10.jpg
Works like a charm. Even better, actually.

bg2_up29_146.jpg

With a little help from his newly-found friend, The Codex gets rid of Akae.

codex_10.jpg
Mentioning their names seems pretty pointless, does it not?

Probably.

bg2_up29_147.jpg

Ferric Ironblade bites the dust.

bg2_up29_148.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Time for you to go, Chuck.

bg2_up29_149.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Ow-fuck! You're gonna pay for this!

bg2_up29_150.jpg

codex_10.jpg
Mwahahahaha, slaughter!

bg2_up29_151.jpg

Having completed that one little sidetrack, we are now ready to get back to the main business of this dungeon.

---

Next time: The epic finale, obviously!

Next quest selection details:
We got quite a lot of votes this time, with Haer'Dalis & Astral Prison (good name for a rock band minstrel troupe) being the most popular option by far. Let's roll!

1. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Erebus]
2. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Rake]
3. Illithids in Atkathla [JoKa]
4. Korgan's Quest [Aeschylus]
5. Temple Ruins [Shadenaut]
6. Korgan's Quest [Storyfag]
7. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Rod Rodderson]
8. Temple Ruins [T(D?)-Bag]
9. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Stygian Lurker]
10. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [Krivol]
11. Rescuing Haer'Dalis + Astral Prison [MotherMachinae]

Edit: And the Oscar goes to... Temple Ruins!

So, that's the part with annoying wolverines...

Few deaths from burning your feets made one, important question in little Codexer life - "Cujo?"

In PnP, I think Greater Wolwere pretty much have to be killed in a single round or they regenerate entirely. Not sure how it works in BG2, though their regeneration is clearly very fast. I suspect soloing one of them would be almost impossible with some character classes.

From what I have noticed, it was the same case here. I hope they never appear in the game again.

In 2e D&D Greater Wolfweres did indeed regenerate entirely at the end of each round, except for severed limbs. They were also exclusive to the Ravenloft setting, but Bioware just had to have them I guess.

There is a lot cooler monster in ToB which I found to be almost impossible for my own solo run I did long time ago - greater were... WYVERN! :troll: I think it follows rules close to it's wolf cousins. It's in the beginning of Abazigal's lair

The wizard eye exploit did indeed get fixed at some point by official patch, it was responsible for my first kangaxx kill as well. Also a way to laugh at it was to use berserker or minsc, rage made them immune to imprisonment/maze(think some G3 fixpack removes it).
I remember being able to hit vamps with +1 weapons in non fixpack bg2 +2 for sure, not certain about arrows.
In this game all the damn big golems are so pointless, instead of tough opponents they are just free xp.
