M&B got nothing on this. It never went further than being a real-time skirmish-scale action game with mounted combat, filling a niche with non-existent competition. And both the First Person combat and the combat mechanics are rather crap.

And that video was shared just a page ago and screenshot from the same video on this same page.

great open world first person RPG since the Gothic trilogy.
first person RPG since the Gothic
first person Gothic

Blimey, that's official now?

When it comes down to it, every game really is first person. Even if you control a 8 person party, you're often experiencing the gameworld from one set of eyes. Your own.

Live long and prosper.

In all seriousness, I believe he meant third person single character.

I think Mount and Blade is OK, and M&B with mods is quite good.

Warhorse devs should make a similar approach like Talewords did if they have no publisher backing in the end.
Make a focused game with a solid gameplay and make it mod friendly, then like many goddamn good games since the last decade, the modders will do the rest.
Because for every 1000 shitty moe porn mods and shit, there are great ones like Brytenwalda and bugfixes.

If he is intent on making a good action RPG with a believable world Gothic 2 is the game he should take inspiration from, not Skyrim.

I am a bit worried if he sounds like he wants to woo a publisher by promising to make the next Skyrim, though it looks like Daniel is keenly aware of many of the pitfalls of modern gaming. Hopefully it would mean no quest compass, no hand holding, no thousands of useless objects to pick up, an emphasis on gathering clues yourself instead of NPCs spelling out everything for you, and other such tropes associated with Bethesda.

I have to say, that it feels rather weird when people are talking about someone in 3rd person, while the person is actually here. Feels little antisocial.

I'm going to guess English is not the primary language of the Czech Republic?

In English, people other than yourself are ALWAYS spoken of in the third person.

The point is it's perfectly normal to use third person for someone present in a conversation with 3 or more people in English.

I thought Daniel (or rather you) only came to make a few comments and then leave.

We do know that you're well aware of many of the trappings of modern AAA games, as is obvious by some of your older rants on your blog. But at this point, many like me are hopeful, but still somewhat skeptical that it will stray far enough from Skyrim's trappings, and into an rpg that respects the intelligence and skill of the player.

Is deuxhero sure about that?
Spoken of, not spoken to.

Well of course, but I think Daniel's point was that he could've been addressed directly.

There was no need. Daniel was absent, is rarely here and is often being touchy when he is. He was addressed where it was relevant, despite him rarely replying to any argument, decreasing any motivation to address him at all. Do we personally address every developer every time we speak about them? Hey Todd, Daniel here seem to think Skyrim was a good game which I find sort of laughable. Your game is a piece of shit, Todd and I don't harbour pleasant thoughts towards you either. And I'm addressing you just so you won't all of a sudden show up here because you were offended that I didn't address you directly, though it would be an interesting turn of events if you did. Oh by the way, Dan is making a Skyrim-killer LOL.

Are you satisfied, Gakkone? Is he satisfied, Daniel? Are you? When will you come back? I know you are busy but here at the Codex we are starved for attention and data feed so keep us posted. Start by going into the fencing system.

So I've read a new article from Dan in the current issue of Level papermag. He sums up his impressions about the next-gen and E3. Long story short - "Could have been worse. The launch of last generation was way worse". He grumbles there also that everything now has to:
- have a social features
- have facebook or Twitter or whatnot integrated
- have tablet "companion-app"
- support motion control in some way
and that every producer in the BIG companies think like that. He was listening to this shit for like a year and then at E3 it all turned out to be fancy useless crap. Nontheless he was forced to design some of this shit anyway to appeal to them despite him knowing it is nonsense and despite it being a fact.
Dan is a bro. I just hope he doesn't/Warhorse don't lose too much control over the project with the publishing deal and the game doesn't turn out to be an abomination subsequently.

Daniel.Vavra you better give us movement-independent freelook as in OF and ArmA series! It's annoying as fuck that you can't look around in a proper manner while walking to somewhere in most FP games; you just have to walk where you look for some retarded reason.

I fail to visualize how one could achieve that in FP. Would you have to click and pan like in MMOs ? with one click being camera and the other camera + body ?
