What I’m hoping for is basically a much better Baldur’s Gate (the first). A big world, a lot to explore (but not uselessly), a nice complex dungeon as in Durlag’s Tower, a story that makes you want to know what happens and a world that feels okaysh, with people going about their own business and sort-of-believable places.
The big cities should not be just a collection of locked doors to open and more locked chests to rob, some quests should be started by you opening a locked chest and finding interesting documents inside that lead you to some interesting/fun subquest, or hidden location, or whatever. Or breaking into a house and finding unexpected stuff, like a dead body, and after a little while an officer approaches you on the street saying that a neighbor saw you breaking into next door’s house and called the guards and the guards found the dead body so you are now under arrest, and you have to escape jail and find the real culprit, or you could steal something valuable and find it the next day on the newspapers (as in Arcanum’s newspapers, which I loved) and therefore make it impossible to sell the stuff you’ve stolen to a “normal” merchant, and being approached by a member of some thieves organization who wants to buy the stuff you’ve stolen or who beat you up and bring you somewhere to explain to you that you can’t “work” by yourself without approval first, and explain to you in very… persuasive manners (and start a chain of quests to enter the thieves underground). Or you could break into a house through a window and step on the house dog’s tail and wake everyone up and make a mess and be chased by guards and so on. Big cities have many many possibilities for rogues and non rogues alike, and these possibilities should be used better than just -> steal shiny stuff or -> go to temple, get quest.
Going to a bath house or inn you could unwillingly overhear some discussion that starts a new quest, at the docks you could look for cheap daily employment or you could “enlist” for longer expeditions that pay better but are more dangerous (and you risk being sold as a slave, or ending on some lost island from which you have to escape and so on). Even if it’s just the usual “this guy gave me a quest” method, actually making it “feel” a bit different could help a lot with how enjoyable the game is.
The Siamese twins quest was cool because it made you “look around” for the solution, not just “talk to guy. Guy gives quest. Kill things. Go back to guy”. Too bad that quest ended in nothing though.
That’s what I expect from a competent team, another silly game full of fed ex quests and fake choices and consequences, like NWN 2’s trial bullshit quest (no matter what you do, you have to FIGHT! Hahaha take that, choices and consequences!) is not really that appealing…

If you're genuinely not trolling:

The quest has no resolution on purpose. You discover the "truth" about some horrible conspiracy - maybe - and when you try to tell people about it, those people have been removed. The newspaper guy? A different man. No words about it. He's just gone. Snuffed out. The guy with the skulls? He ain't here no more, as if he had never been here.

It's something to evoke an X-Files vibe, about a government/conspiracy that's bigger than you and which you are powerless against. In this regard the quest is done extremely well and depressing. It plays with the player's expectations on purpose- something MCA enjoys. The whole reason MCA games are great is because the man hates. He hates conventions and rules and tropes. This quest is a good example of what he'd like.

If you're trolling then fuck you.

Not trolling, but here’s the problem: you have evidence. You have the documents, and the lab is still there, clearly you are not the only one knowing this (after all, other people sent you on the mission, and these people probably know other people) and so on. Sure, ONE newspaper rejected your story, but it’s not like you don’t know people in a position of power who could DO something about it (Bates, for one). If you can reach that island, other people can. Law enforcement people for instance. And you have documents that support your claims. Etcetera. Sure, if all evidence were destroyed, I’d get it, but you hold the evidence in your hands, plus there’s, you know, A WHOLE ISLAND to confirm your claims…
