I've already started playing an intelligent Half-ogre, the game is indeed very enjoyable and the combat seems quite easy, although unsatisfying. I didn't even get past Shrouded Hills for now. Anyway, I have a question regarding alignment- is it much more difficult to play a completely evil character, as I always do in CRPGS, or just like usual- some pros and cons, but no potentially game-breaking situations?

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Evil characters get their own evil followers (Geoffrey Tarrelond-Ashe the necromancer, that skeleton barbarian whom you have to resurrect by doing a quest; both of them are voiced characters) and their own evil questline later in the game (maybe the last fourth of the game, I think; good characters join the good Elves, evil ones can join the dark Elves).

So yeah, Arcanum is one of the better games when it comes to being evil.

Gar is awesome. What level do I need to be for him to join me?
Level 10 and two ranks in persuasion, if you just let him go and not accept him into your party you get a fate point.

I never knew this, what's his name?

You also need to have a certain amount of intelligence (9? 10? 12? I dunno exactly) in order to get the necessary dialogue choices.

Yeah, like Carceri said, Torian Kel is his name. You can find him in the Ancient Temple which is located right in the middle of the Morbihan Plains, a little north of the path between Tarant and Ashbury.
In my first playthrough I accidentally killed him. He's a skeleton who looks just like all the other skeletons, only that he doesn't attack you. Also he's alone in a locked room. You can talk to him and he'll ask you to go to some temple and get some Dragon Blood for him to revive him.

Yeah, so I guess I'll just play a typical Half-Ogre dumbfuck for the first time, maybe I'll put a few points into INT :)

It's fun. That's what I played on my first go through. The dialogue "choices" are almost as good as a Malkavian vampire in VtMB.

The journal entries are even better.

Are there any decent thieves or Pick Locks specialists I can recruit anywhere? I've got the Black Mountain Mines on hold at the moment, and I've been to Tarant, Dernholm, Blackroot so far and that's about it (with detours to Liam's Workshop, the Elven Ruins, etc).

I'm sick of not being able to open any locks. Virgil isn't cutting it, and I don't want to waste any points on the skill with my own character. I'm guessing the auto-skeleton key won't make much of a difference without any skill to begin with.

Some general directions or hints would be much appreciated.

Is there some item to raise Charisma that a technologist can use? I mean, I have really low charisma and would like to have 1 more follower, but dont want to spend pts in Cha.

I thought Moriat´s negotiator ring would suffice but no, it doesnt work on me, bcause my tech affinity.

Nothing you post there makes it any different than playing evil in many RPGs including BIO ones.

With the exception that the evil questline is longer and more different to the good questline than in any BIO RPG, which contributes a lot to non-linearity.

What? The only difference is whether you wipe out Stillwater (takes about 10 seconds) and whether you do that pit-dungeon or whether you do Tulla.

OMG, SO MUCH DIFFERENCE!!!

You forgot all the Thieves Underground questlines.

They can be considered evil, since it consists of illegal/immoral actions.

There's programs to fix that you know. Is it a software or hardware problem?

Hardware. I could reassign the button. Some of my number keys dont work too (which was of coarse easy to handle with num lock) so I'll just get a new board.
