What games did you complete in 2020?

Played and completed Resident Evil HD over the break. Almost quit (again) after I ran out of ink ribbons and died after 30 minutes without saving. I had tried a long time ago but was overwhelmed by red zombies and quit, cursing the game and its terrible infernal mechanics. Turned off the door...

CD Projekt's Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 + Phantom Liberty Expansion Thread

You simply can't take a studio like CDPR that has never made a good game, give them $300 million, and then expect a good outcome. Why anyone thought otherwise is beyond me. They should go back to making interactive medieval softcore porns, at least a few people seem to enjoy those.

Cyberpunk 2077 Pre-Release Thread [GAME RELEASED, GO TO NEW THREAD]

There is zero chance I'll ever install or play Witcher 3 -- at least CP2077 allows character creation but I'll probably avoid this one too.

Squeenix Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade - now on Steam

Chrono Cross had some appealing things about it but I thought the combat was too slow and the sheer number of characters was an interesting idea that unfortunately resulted in lots of breadth and little depth. In terms of sum of its parts, Chrono Trigger has to be the vastly superior game...

Squeenix Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade - now on Steam

I didn't think the combat was bad, but the weapon upgrade options were boring and uninspired and could have just been removed. The materia synergies were shockingly limited for a 30-40 hour game, but I blame that more on bad story pacing. Did you seriously find Specimen H0512, Jenova, Rufus, The...

KickStarter System Shock 1 Remake by Nightdive Studios

It's not like optimization is even being completely saved for last. All the features put into the game are optimized as they go in. The biggest hit to performance turned out to be Wwise's (audio engine) ridiculous occlusion tests that A.) Don't cull audio components by attenuation distance B.)...

Elder Scrolls Daggerfall is the BEST Bethesda game

I acknowledge that Daggerfall has many flaws, but it is still my favorite TES game. I would have liked to see a sequel that improved on the flawed mechanics instead of removing them. While Morrowind did this to an extent, it removed a lot too.

Rift / Vive / VR General

I know it's a while off, but I just want a jurassic park VR game with elements of trespasser and alien isolation.

What game are you wasting time on?

SkiNNyBane I don't play dota 2 anymore because I've firmly decided that I dislike multiplayer games -- but I got roped into a few games when they opened up seasons months ago and got to Ancient 3. Ultimately, the game seems to be hopelessly locked into a design that encourages greed and bad...

Incline Official codex Star Trek Online topic :salute:

You are correct. I wasn't aware of the UI updates occurring more frequently than render updates, but the layout/update functions occur every frame and there was never a supported way to make it conditional or event-driven. However, given that UI elements often query several systems to display...

Incline Official codex Star Trek Online topic :salute:

Tangentially related: There were two large props floating around the building that 'the shadow council' used to shame programmers that made significant mistakes: The dreaded Dunce Cap and Brown Cat. I received the Brown Cat on one occasion and I will never live it down. :argh: And this is why...

I wasn't sacked. Four years is a long time when the job entails working with memory leaks and corruption in oldschool C code with no smart pointers and loose static type checking. While I enjoy masochism, I can only endure it so long. The original designer of the doff system left Cryptic after...

The UI programmer assured us that he did everything he could think of to optimize the UIGen system.
