Finally why the Cthulhu Mythos setting?
It's original, no one else has done it, and I love his stuff. The man's influence is plain to see across an entire spectrum of media, but how much stuff is directly derived from his work? Not much. Although his story arcs don't mesh with an RPG in their raw form, the atmosphere of overarching dread and madness make for a great starting point. Also, the world or cosmos he created is 100% original. Hard to do a fantasy game of which you could say that. You really have to go back, or far sideways, to find any fantasy literature completely uninfluenced by Tolkien.
