Adreneline Vault has just put up their review of one of this year's RPGs, Beyond Divinity. The general opinion they had of the game's various aspects was rather poor, for the most part, but the reviewer says that inspite of its pitfalls, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Here's a snippet:

There are other issues, both solved and unsolved by a steady stream of patches made available since Beyond Divinity’s release, but I don’t want to spend this entire criterion detailing the numerous frustrations that can be found. The real story is that Beyond Divinity contains exactly the type of solid gameplay that a quality hack-and-slash RPG should have. It borrows successfully from titles like Diablo and Neverwinter Nights without feeling like a clone, and adds variety and humor to boot. It needed more development time to hammer out the balance issues and bugs, but what’s here is engaging and fun to play. The patches that have been released thus far have helped iron out some of the larger wrinkles, so with extended support, Beyond Divinity could be the classic it should’ve been when it hit retail.

Perhaps, with some time and a little hard work, Larian Studios can still produce the game they intended to with a multitude of patches. I'd hate to see a game which had so much potential go to waste.
