There are other issues, both solved and unsolved by a steady stream of patches made available since Beyond Divinity’s release, but I don’t want to spend this entire criterion detailing the numerous frustrations that can be found. The real story is that Beyond Divinity contains exactly the type of solid gameplay that a quality hack-and-slash RPG should have. It borrows successfully from titles like Diablo and Neverwinter Nights without feeling like a clone, and adds variety and humor to boot. It needed more development time to hammer out the balance issues and bugs, but what’s here is engaging and fun to play. The patches that have been released thus far have helped iron out some of the larger wrinkles, so with extended support, Beyond Divinity could be the classic it should’ve been when it hit retail.​
