RPG Vault has posted a really long interview with the Cult guys about their fantasy CRPG. Here's a bit on side quests:

Jonric: What role will quests / missions play in the game? Will there be very many? Can you say anything about the various types in the game or about specific ones?

Jan Turan:
We divide quests in two categories:
1. adventure- and dialogue-based quests
2. action-based quests
Of course, these are combined quite often.

There is equal number of side quests in those two categories, and our system is able to change similar quests for other ones to grant replayability. The player can accept any side quest he wants, but he is not forced to finish any of them. Every big game location has its specific quests; some of them are critical, some are side, and their total number is about 10 per location.

That's kind of interesting, though I prefer one quest with both dialogue and action means of solving them.
